You never forget how to play this song, I learned it in 2007 and it’s burned into My brain I could pick up a guitar in 50 years and remember that pattern
@@SPINlX you've ever played an instrument before? If you did you will probably have the same experience, it happens to most musician, muscle memory follows you for life
@@elin3303 I am a musician, this is just not true at all. Maybe if you play the song nonstop for a month it would be hard to forget. But you can definitely forget songs you've learned in the past.
@@kupc4ke what instrument do you play? Yes you can forget a song but it usually just take a small while to remember, especially since what he plays here isn't even a complex piece is just a short 4 bar riff that is consist of four chord and basically the same legato movement throughout, very doable imo
@@mikeoxlong6129 well, I'm a professional electric guitar player (I have been make a living out of it for the last six years) with a music degree. I know how the instrument works. Yes, everything you said is correct. He finds the root, the four chords making this specific riff and so on. However, in this video, like in the GOAT one (the two only videos I've seen from this guy), he pretends he is doing all that work while the digitation (I don't know if that word exists in English, it's not my main language, but I mean the way you put your fingers in the fretboard) evolves from an amount information that doesn't allow to get the whole thing, to the whole thing. It's even worse in the GOAT video, where he mumbles something like he never heard the song before. That riff it's a hard one that many of my partners, who are way better than me, needed a couple of hours. Average guitar players need around a week to learn it in the right tempo. The whole riff is quite long with many techniques; tapping, harmonics, hybrid picking, etc. You don't take 60 seconds, including the time it takes to listen to the riff once and for the first time, and get that riff. It's literally impossible. Not even Danny You, who is probably one of the fastest cover guitar player (not faked like this guy, he releases his covers hours after Tim Henson or Polyphia releases literally anything) is able to do that. Not to mention his acting.
@@jajajajjeje did you notice he doesn’t play it right or fully? He’s missing notes, he doesn’t play it perfectly, he just gets the general sound. He just played it clean enough and on tempo.
He is very talented and I'm sure he can learn song very quickly. But I'm also sure that he remember how to play this song. This is the song that everyone try to play when they first learn guitar caz they think it easy. Only to find out that it gives them arthritis and carpal tunnel
my guitar teacher totally does this, it’s just finding the root, knowing your scale patterns, having done enough ear training to recognize the intervals between notes, and being familiar with interval shapes on the fretboard
This guy isn’t doing that though he clearly just knows the song he may have learned it by ear previously but that isn’t what he’s doing in these videos. He goes to hearing to playing it correctly instantly even if you know every progression in the world all the intervals and scales there are many songs you can’t just play instantly without practice and Snow is definitely one of those.
@@GuitarJammerJohn I am not sure particularly if he has learned this song before, but it is pretty much the idea of ear training to go straighting from hearing to playing it correctly instantly. There is melody and there is harmony, and neither is too difficult to realize instantly.
@@oliveryuan9526 I don’t think you understand what I’m saying saying yes people can instantly play songs after hearing them I can do it pretty well. My point is it’s physically very difficult to instantly play this song to speed straight away the actual structure is easy they are basically just triads but the speed I don’t think I’ve ever met anyone who could instantly play Snow at full tempo.
@@GuitarJammerJohn After rewatching the shorts he does mention he probably has learned it a long time ago but doesnt remember it. However it is just a far fetch to say he plays it perfectly. The whole idea of internet is that you get to see people who you wouldnt normally get to see daily, average people dont even play the guitar. But 16th notes at 105bpm is just not a physically demanding job for a guitarist, especially when you are not asked to do so through out a whole song keeping the tempo, which I do realize that is one of the hardest part of the snow riff
@@oliveryuan9526 Personally in the shorts I don’t think he is learning by ear I’m sure he can do it but I always get the impression he knows them already. Some of them I can’t believe he hasn’t already played before as they are songs all guitarists learn and then he even played a Polyphia song after one listen I don’t think anyone can do that. With Snow It doesn’t seem that hard till you actually try yes most songs playing at 105Bpm especially on individual strings is easy put incorporating the movement and the pulls offs it takes awhile to nail it correctly. Go and try and you’ll see what I mean but I don’t think anyone can get it instantly up to speed after hearing it the first time especially playing through the whole song.
@@toke7342 You're obviously stupid. since what he said means that it is done to the one who does not know when one really knows in advance. He always makes these kinds of fake videos and it's already boring
The fact he said he might've learned this and forgot actually makes me believe him more. Why? Because this is an easy af song music theory wise. Extremely. When you know music theory it's easy to forget the specific patterns on the fretboard because you know you'll be able to figure it out again. People like this guy are thinking about guitar way differently than the doubters. He's a musician, not a guitarist. Guitar just happens to be his tool of choice.
Years and years ago like he’s in his 40’s. Heard it for the first time a month ago. Got the request to play it last week and been grinding on it every night since. “ Oh that’s a good one but I’m really a fan of the older stuff from years and years ago. Me and my mom were in the 6th grade listening to taste the pain”. Those were the days. Years and years ago
Yeah exactly you never forget how to play this song, even if you can’t play it at full speed I’m sure every guitarist feels the same when playing this song. The amount of endurance you need to play it over and over and over again and to keep up alone is something in itself and the frustration to get to full speed. Trust me when I say this, you never forget. It’s a song a lot of guitarist wish they could play at full speed but can’t because of the hundreds of notes you have to play a minute lol
Ocean John butler . Acoustic studio mix . This I would be impressed lol . Great work keep it up bro.::. It’s a completely different tuning tho . But even 20secs would be impressive
I figured it up as a B arpeggio hammering a 9, with an E appargio with a hammer C# hammer-on, back to the B arpegfio with the 9 hammer and then up to an F# arpeggio with a hammer on from C# to D#... Something like that. I figured it out in Eb tuning though so it was easy to do them at the upper part of the neck
A friend of mine who is really great at playing guitar moves his head just in the same pattern/style as you when he is learning a song he doesn't know. Wish I had the skills to learn to but have troubles with my fingers/wrists due to nerve damage.
Idk why ppl got so upset and said he’s faking. As a beginner I can even understand that it’s not impossible to regconize the chords just by listening. Yes it’s a tough skill but once u nail the chords then the rest relies on scaling and choosing picking pattern
That was muscle memory I saw there. He definitely learnt it like a few years ago and is probably replaying it. Doesn't make dissecting it any less cooler tho 👍
As guitarist myself this is so relatable haha. Some songs I haven’t played in years you forgot how to play, but then just by trying out it slowly gets back to you… Muscle memory hahaha well done btw!
It's a gift to figure out a song, whether this is genuine or not. Surely being a part of some original music or changing a cover a bit is more interesting musically, than this video of your gift. A lot of people can reproduce a sound, not so many can invent one, focus on that more !
there’s a little thing called muscle memory, and also maybe even, learning by ear. EVH played the same way which is just an example of this being totally possibly, all it takes is a lot of practice
I can pick up songs pretty quick. He might not be lying. Yes, if you play a song and don’t play it for a while you will forget, but you will pick up on it quickly if you try to play it again. Everyone needs to quit hating on this guy regardless if he learns the songs before his video’s or not.
