Does latency with MID-to-CV conversion ever present challenges?

It certainly can. In the studio I use Ableton Live is the main clock while recording, and then use the timing offset feature in its MIDI preferences to offset each device as needed to get the response I want - including the MIDI keyboards, and clocking the Vector sequencer in my modular cases (which in turn might be triggering a virtual instrument back on the Mac). I've found that different modules may also have different timing offsets - especially if they're digital (analog modules tend to respond instantaneously). For the most recent piece I recorded, the WMD Crater was ahead of the WMD Crucible & Chimera; and then the two modules driven by the sequencer - one voice with an analog AD/VCA (instant) and MI Rings also had a difference in their response times.

Yes! I just played a local event just over a week ago (facebook.com/events/293248165609888/), and we do both virtual and in-person meetings. Email your Facebook profile page to the "contact me" form at the bottom of the learningmodular.com website, and I'll invite you to our local modular group.
