I just realized that you could probably do a relative compression test so easily with this tool! If you just click the battery voltage terminal and scope it right through the VCMI! You’d have to look at voltage drop instead of amperage, but still! You can’t do it much faster than that!

Caleb is a valuable piece to the ScannerDanner channel. I’ve found having him there to ask questions at times I’ve had the same question is great. You know what your doing and what’s going on but having someone there that hasn’t yet learned all the in’s and outs of how things work I feel is vital to the audience. Supercool that it’s your son aswell. I know that as a dad myself that would make me really happy and proud to have my son with me as I teach him what I love to do. I’d say Calebs worth every penny you pay him...maybe more😎

I had a pretty rough day today working on 2004 Mazda 3, felt defeated when I had to walk away from it not resolving the customers issue with a no com to the modules because I ran out of time. Then I came home sucked it up and said well I might as well learn some more from the good ole scanner danner channel. Then I came across this video and it made my day and lightened the mood. I also learned a few things. As always another great video for knowledge and a laugh. Keep up the great work.

Paul, When I hand hold my Verus like you were doing in the start of this video I use the folding stand in the back. I open the stand, lay the Verus on my arm, and grip the side of the folding stand in my hand near the stand hinge point. No chance of dropping the scanner and it's pretty comfortable to hold it that way.

J1850-10.4 - GM Class-2 The SAE J1850.10.4 standard refers to the GM Class-2 communication protocol. This protocol has been used by General Motors since 1996. With Class 2 data, each bit of information can have one of two lengths, long (128 us) or short (64 us). This is referred to as Variable Pulse Width (VPW). This allows the vehicle wiring to be reduced by the transmission and reception of the multiple signals over a single wire. The messages which are carried on Class 2 data streams are also prioritized. In other words, if two messages attempt to establish communications on the data line at the same time, only the message with the higher priority will continue. The device with the lower priority message must wait. The data link connector (DLC) allows a scan tool to communicate with the class 2 serial data line. The serial data line is the means by which the microprocessor-controlled modules that are connected to it communicate with each other. Once the scan tool is connected to the class 2 serial data line through the DLC at pin 2, the scan tool can be used to monitor each module for diagnostic purposes and to check for diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs). Class 2 serial data is transmitted on a single wire at an average of 10.4 Kbps or higher depending upon the vehicle manufacturer's design. The Class 2 bus is active at 7.0 volts nominal, however, it will measure at about 3.9 volts on a digital multimeter. The Class 2 bus is inactive at ground potential (close to zero volts). weber.instructure.com/courses/181471/pages/j1850-10-dot-4?module_item_id=1111941

Man you had me nervous with the VCI sitting on the wiper blade with knowing the wipers wigged out. I learned the hard way with my snap on modis edge not to lay stuff on the wiper's lol. The more I am seeing this autel scantool is making me one to buy one. The channel 4 being tied into the OBD2 is very nice and handy to have also, REALLY like that feature! Sometimes it sucks when you can't get the car to act up, worse feeling when you know there is an issue and you can't fix it if it's not broke.

Love every bit of watching you. I love the fact you are willing to except we are all human. learning the tools are key. I can't count the number of times I have had customers use a simple scan tool and assume the codes that appear are the problem. The thing I hate the most is when a customer brings their vehicle right after they stopped at a parts store. 9 times out of 10 it seems the parts stores ALWAYS clears the codes. There goes all the important information not to mention the freeze frame data. I have to explain that it makes our job that much harder. PART STORES need to STOP clearing codes !!!!!!!! By the way, that was a FART !!!!!!! LOLOL

If I remember correctly, the brake system module on these grounds at a splice pack (mounted on the left side of the engine bay close to the under hood fuse block by a 10 mm bolt). That ground point is shared with several components including the wipers... I have seen that splice pack/ground point develop resistance creating intermittents, with a short to approximately 7 volts on the class 2 network. The brake system module on these steps down the B+ supply to 7 V and then pulls the signal to ground to communicate. When the ground in question develops resistance the module fails to pull the signal to ground and the module continues attempting com resulting in the network getting stuck close to 7 V. The waveform takes on a sawtooth or triangle shape that between 6-7 V

Caleb is so crucial to the development of the channel.. I’ve been slowly progressing in my diagnosis and have been watching your more recent videos.. I noticed that your editing got way better Dan.. I’m positive that’s Caleb lol. It’s pretty crazy how much better the camera quality went up.. it’s crazy how the title screens have changed.. all of editing, it’s getting better... What can I say, maybe I want Caleb to make some more money lol.. but what I’m seeing is that Caleb is now taking the torch to why your channe is looking so much more professional haha. You’re super proffesional tho Dan, love your language professionalism’s and just how you go through all your diagnosis... Anyway, love how you’re posting scope testing since I actually have a cam and crank code on my Dodge Ram, and I didn’t know how to read it until I started realizing I need a scope. You’re probably gonna hate me lol cause I plan on getting a cheapo for now.. I have been looking for used verus’ scopes and they are 1500$+.. Really love you representing these tools because I’m learning that there will be a learning curve for whatever I choose.. I was looking at a pico and then I saw your video about your new pico set up... Just super stoked for the future of scopes and diagnosis in general, very happy to have a place to learn about everything and have seriously been considering your book and paid monthly videos. Only guy I watch besides you is Eric O and Schrodingers Box Diagnosis.. I’ll say I like your editing the most, but the other guys have really good stuff too. But yeah man, CALEB COMING IN CLUTCH WITH THE CAMERA SKILLS! Appreciate his lighting efforts.. his editing skills are too funny too like on the green man legend 🤣

Thought I'd throw this out there. I was working on an early model Colorado with pretty much identical symptoms. Serial network crashing, stalling, no start, no headlights, wipers and dome lights. Few other things failing to work too. All intermittently of course. Spent a couple of days trying to figure it out. Wound up being poor pin fitment at the PCM power relay in the underhood fuse box. Everytime it would drop power, the data line would find a path to ground through the PCM.

Aftermarket scan tools companies are trending now to make the tools read more like the factory scan tools, which is frustrating for Snap-on scan tool users. I enjoy the fact that when I hook up my Modis to any vehicle the PIDs and data look the same. The Maximus and the Autel tools use factory PIDs and factory scan tool functionality, which is time consuming to learn and sucks to get familiar with. The info for a Toyota and a GM should be the same on the tool. Hopefully, Snap-on doesn't follow this trend!

Editing has changed for the best fron the old Danner era to the Caleb era, jajajajajaja. Even Carlos agrees (when Danner told him he was on film, he basically said : "can I talk to your editor first") 😜 If that doesn't tell Caleb he"s worth every penny I don't know what will. Saludos a los 2 😉

If that’s a Chevy blazer or trail blazer I would look at that gauge cluster very closely as its known to cause can network issues!!! I’ve had the gauge cluster drop both high and low speed cans and then it’s a no start then acts very funny!! After it’s a No start I will unplug the gauge cluster and now it will start and all works again👍👍👍 Bad cluster.. One of the things that take me right to the gauge cluster being the trouble on a trailblazer is it’s a No start No crank No fuel pump. I’ll unplug that cluster with the key on and you’ll hear the fuel pump run it’s prime and it will now start and run

This video gave me answers to questions about you. Questions i have for myself at work too. You said cant be doing next car becsuse its too long for that day. Partly showing lack of motivation. Honesty though too. Your picking up on re read codes. Known that for ever as I use Autel. Your saying should figures look like that proves even the die hard techs dont know everything. Oh and the airbags. Never done that yet. Just about to work on my own Renault Captur SRS module. Now I will be firmly disconnecting the battery before I do. So you do crazy things too. I do. Years go by and as motivation drops, so the unforeseen crazy things happen more often.

I've learned a ton from you over the years. I look up to you for sure. Watching you eat sh*t on this vehicle and making mistakes was awesome! It makes me feel better about the struggles I go thru day to day diagnosing all makes and models in an independent shop. I myself am learning the new Autel tool. Its tough when you add on the stress of diagnosing cars in a timely manner while learning new equipment. "Hey Danner youve been on that Colorado for 2 hours... where are you at on it?" Haha

Only from watching many automotive diagnostic videos such as your channel - I see a trend - that being - when you have multiple module failures - you will probably also encounter a CAN communication problem - not always but , rare that multiple modules will malfunction at the same time.

The ch. 4 scope scope feature is very cool. Needs more development. I loved GM's Data Bus Diagnostic Tool, provides great diagnostic features through the MDI2 but doesn't work on many of thier newer vehicles with VIP architecture because the DLC terminals are now just data links to the gateway module and not the networks. A quick glance at network schematics will let you know what network your measuring

Danner, I just lost 1hr 18sec I will never get back. I demand a refund and want to speak to the manager! Lol. There’s always a learning curve learning new tooling. I suspect this scan tool will soon be all the talk. Love your videos man, Ive watched everything you posted from a couple years back now. Keep em coming.

haha I agree, this one left me with wanting more too, but it did showcase the Autel a bit, which a lot of people have been wanting to see, so at least we got that right? 😉

ScannerDanner it did Paul, it’s taking a lot of steps out. Res-scanning modules after clearing codes. Testing connector pin outs, etc. I haven’t said it before but you inspire me a lot and all your content helps me grow as a tech. For all years of experience you shown me, Thank you!
