Yooka-Laylee, the spiritual successor to Rare's 3D collect-a-thon trilogy on the N64, is a game about learning moves. Like in Banjo-Kazooie and Donkey Kong 64, this has a big impact on the game and how it's played. With the revival of the 3D collect-a-thon, it's time to take a hard look at the effects of learning moves in Yooka-Laylee.

Great video overall man! While I do get your point (which I'll get to in a bit), I'm sure you're aware that everyone has a different playstyle, and this very majorly effects Yooka-Laylee. First time I played through the game, I only beat the game only visiting each world twice. My personal playstyle was to collect EVERYTHING I could in the pre-expanded worlds and the limited moveset. This playstyle actually got me all the way to Galleon Galaxy. Right when I got to Galleon Galaxy, I grabbed the ability there, then ran out of the world Then I backtracked and then expanded each world, and then I cleaned up the rest of the world (completed and collected items in areas where I was limited for moves, and cleared up the expansions). Because of this, I was able complete each world by only visiting it twice, and then I got the whole world of Galleon Galaxy to explore at the end, both pre-expanded and expanded. Anyways, that was just me sharing my experience though ^.^ But the main point of your video, I think I would have to kind of agree. However, I think some of the complaints about worlds crossing over like in Banjo-Tooie could help here. With super quick world crossovers like in Banjo-Tooie, it would really help with the backtracking here. For an example, the last ability needed to complete Tribalstack Tropics is in Capital Cashino. If Capital Cashino had some kind of quick travel system to Tribalstack Tropics, that would really help imo. Anyways, great video man! Keep it up! :D

Yeah, my four passes explanation only really applied to Tribalstack for me. I found 90+ quills and found Trowzer, then I found three Pagies and expanded the world. Then, like I mentioned, I focused on "building up a stock of Quills and Pagies hoping to circumvent this convoluted process" when I started the next world, which I did. After Tribalstack, I was able to start each world already expanded because I had found everything I could in the previous one. After getting that last move in Gangplank, I went back to finish the other levels, too. I think my main point could be summed up as annoyance. I was annoyed that while exploring a world, I was constantly running into things I couldn't yet do, and would have to try to remember all the places in that giant world that I hadn't finished yet. So basically when returning to that world I'd have to go everywhere again, because I couldn't remember most of what was blocked off. That's why I picked Spyro 2 as a contrast; remembering water, ladders, and rocks with targets on the top is relatively easy. While shortcuts could work, I think a fast travel like Super Mario Odyssey, or just being able to transport to another world like in SpongeBob SquarePants: Battle for Bikini Bottom, might be the best answer. Thanks for watching!

Only thing a bit annoying in my op is that im almost complete the game im learning all the moves and stuff before inget all collectables simply just playing through the game takes no time effort or skill but getting collectables takes up like 90% of your entire gameplay considering theres shit everywhere on each map and theres definitely some secrets you are going to need to search up

I dont agree..I think it gives it a cool experience I dont mind going back to a world ..banjo kazooie and tooie were awesome..I love this yooka laylee game I've had it for three days now on Nintendo Switch and cant stop playing ..I dont want it to end so this whole going back and forth thing is pretty good for me .
