Took me 3 weeks to learn well. Week one: new toy! Practice everyday abt 40 mins with no break. Learned how to mount and move from side to side in day 5. Week 2: pick up some distance then some speed, took me 4 days to comfortable cruise at 15mph Week 3: turning and some advanced skills. Turning in small radius and emergency brake. Comfortable riding at 22 mph (preset limit). I'm using car parking spot to practice turning. Now I can turn within 1 parking spot. Also watch more video from U-stride, wrong way, hisang to see different riding skills. From there I realized I need different sneakers (tennis and hiking shoes are better, you don't want too soft or too hard. Also thinking to buy a motorcycle suit to add extra protection

Here’s some more tips, when mounting and riding by yourself, give yourself two strong push off with your non dominant foot. Also, grip your wheel with your calves, and always have your feet very close to the side. Bend your knees and grip a little if you start to wobble. Use your head and look where you want to turn!

Great video. It took me months to learn and I did it in stages; balancing, then turning, then mounting. I almost gave up but the RU-vid EUC community gave encouragement and told me to stick with it. Now I have (4) EUC’s and ride daily.

I’d say the Ninebot Z because of the fat tire and the bold looks. But for my casual city riding, I use the 18xl because of it’s reliability. I don’t want the Ninebot to flame out and leave me stranded.

Bought my first EUC (Inmotion V8) in january 2019. It took me 15 minutes to go where I want but 2 days to mount. Two month later I bought the Kingsong 18 XL which I still ride today. Put well over 5000 miles on it and ride it every day. I love it, it's awesome!

@MaximilianGros
@MaximilianGros 4 года назад
@@GreenwithAnvy 16x is bulkier than 18 XL because the same battey has to fit in a smaller shell. I have my eyes on the Veteran Sherman, a 22 inch wheel with double the battery size of my XL. Unfortunately it's ment to drive on the street and I'm mostly on trails because EUCs are illegal in my country. Please tell your partner he should never exceed 25 miles per hour on the 16X because it could eventually cut out.

Maximilian Groß The Veteran Sherman is way too fast for me! What country do you live in that EUCs are illegal? 😦 Would love to see some videos from you if you ever do get the Veteran Sherman! @@GreenwithAnvy I live in Germany. You can buy and own EUC here, but you are only allowed to drive in a lockable private property. Your living room for example or a hall. Not even in your garden. Nevertheless I use my EUC for commuting and everything else. Where the police can see me I ride conservativly too but sometimes I like to go fast too. I made three short clips with my smartphone but you can't see either me or my wheel. Don't know if it's woth to put them on youtube.

@bookmark2846 4 года назад
@@GreenwithAnvy Tips? Hm... When starting out, be extra careful when transitioning between different terrain types as that may cause the wheel to speed up or slow down and consequently throw you off. Always assume there might be a biker behind you when making a turn or carving as it may be initially difficult to look behind. Carve when you can as it is much more fun than going in a straight line and it will also help improve your control of the wheel. As for safety gear, wrist protection is often overlooked but truly essential. The Hillbilly half finger gloves are my favorite because they can be worn in warm weather and allow you to easily use a touch screen phone.

You'll get it in time and you will be so happy when you do. Don't give up and don't be afraid to take risks. Look out towards where you're going with a slight forward upright tilt as if you were just about to fall forward into a pool and trying not to. Helped me a lot but hopefully, I've said it right.

I was really nervous about dropping it, I didn’t like the fence hold either...the riding reminds me of skiing so I used a set of crutches that I had from an old injury, like ski poles. They worked great for me. I stayed on the grass slowly used the crutches less and less. They gave the confidence to start off and stop without dropping it. The first hour really burnt my calves...once I got to relax and just ride, I found I was using less leg squeeze and it got much more comfortable. If you can find an open grassy field try a pair of ski poles (or crutches) it works..
@GreenwithAnvy
@GreenwithAnvy 3 года назад
Whoa, using your crutches is such a creative idea! I'll definitely suggest that to friends who are just starting on the EUC! Thanks for the tip :) Glad you're able to ride more comfortably now! I still sometimes squeeze my legs a lot while riding, but it may be because a lot of the roads I ride on are pretty bumpy. I understand that calf pain! It's a real workout sometimes. Take care, and thanks again for sharing your experience! 😀

Great progress. Nice to see you working together. It took me a few months, practicing on weekends only, indoors, 30 minutes at a time. I finally rode it two miles mainly on the sidewalk. Shortly after, I upgraded too, so I relate. But it’s a skill that stays with you. I haven’t ridden since the shutdown so I’ve lost some of my confidence and mounting ability now.
@GreenwithAnvy
@GreenwithAnvy 3 года назад
Was learning indoors an easy transition to riding outside? You should try riding again before it gets too cold 🥶 What wheel are did you upgrade to? Thanks for watching! Would love to watch or learn more about your journey too! 😊
@TheLillianYoung
@TheLillianYoung 3 года назад
@@GreenwithAnvy Learning inside allowed me to gain balancing and mounting confidence to go outside and ride on sidewalks, initially. Although outdoor terrain is inconsistent, EUCs handle it well. I’m more concerned when riding in the street. Only group rides or personal training can build that confidence for me. I upgraded from the INMOTION V8, V10 to the V11. You are right about the cold. My new wheel arrived kind of later in the season than anticipated so now is the time. I have some riding videos on my channel. I don’t post many because riding with a camera on a stick throws my balance off. But I will post more eventually. Thanks for your interest.

One of my first rides on cement my wheel got away from me it decided to not fall but ride like 50 feet between two parked cars then smack into a chain link fence. It’s been about three months. I only ride it once in a while, but I’m pretty comfortable on bike lanes. My partner, however, rides it to commute to work (I work from home now), and he rides it very easily! He even rides it on the roads in Manhattan! I’m definitely not at that level yet. I think if you’ve ridden the motorcycle, you’d love the thrill of the EUC! However, on long rides and rough roads, my knees tend to hurt a lot. There’s new EUCs with suspension that will definitely help with knee pain! Good luck! Let me know how it goes! :)

Hello :) Just bought my first EUC last week. Like yours, it's a KS 16S. Due to bad weather, and the imposed curfew over here, I was only able to practise three times :( Got frustrated because since I couldn't practise more, progress is slow... And I wonder why people are always attracted to the fence I use to hang to :O Your videos are inspiring, they're telling me not to give up, that I'll also be able to ride casually, if it's not this week, it'll be the next one, or next month. But it'll happen! :) Take are (y)

@kingdavid1519
@kingdavid1519 3 года назад
@@GreenwithAnvy It's my first wheel and I love it. The tire change will be very very time-consuming. You have to take almost everything apart to just change the tire. Also riding in the rain will cause the bearing will start to squeak a lot. It does go away when it dries out. I have not done this yet but if I can pack the bearing with grease or oil it should keep the water out. Driving at night is nice with the light but not when you accelerate. This points the light down and can limit your view range....it's not too bad if you slowly go faster. They say 70-mile range but I got around 30 miles (going top speed a lot). The app can also be kinda confusing. Overall the wheel is awesome and highly recommend it. By the way, the V12 should be coming out here pretty soon.

Cool learning vid! (makes me wish I had filmed myself learning back so so many moons ago). Keep things up and ride everywhere all the time now! Also, try to leverage pressing through the balls of your feet more for stuff like mounting, instead of being heavy on the heels, as with all sports, we get our balance from the balls of the feet, not the heels. Later on this becomes invaluable to be able to lift one heel at a time, pivoting off the ball of the foot, for repositioning feet, and better acceleration force. Also note, on EUC, you do not have to do equal things with both feet: in fact, it's better not to. You can accelerate pressing just one side at a time. This will actually give more stability later on, accelerating with the wheel not upright, but at an angle.
@GreenwithAnvy
@GreenwithAnvy 4 года назад
Oooo thanks for these great tips!!! They’re definitely going to be useful. When I ride for more than maybe 20 minutes now, my feet start aching. When I mount, I also feel like my dominant foot and leg presses really hard against the wheel, while my left foot always ends up somewhere random. I’ll practice mounting with the balls of my feel more. Hopefully that will also relieve some tension and more easy riding! Thank you again! I really appreciate your advice! :-)
@houseofjob
@houseofjob 4 года назад
@@GreenwithAnvy Sure. For mounting, you can start with the mount foot, ball on, but the heel slightly wider / away from the pedal (I'll even exaggerate this sometimes so my knee/leg will face almost into and perpendicular to the wheel body). This will give you a kind of "lock" position where the wheel and front foot pressure are opposed, preventing the wheel from moving (both knees are relatively close to each other). Once your trailing foot is mounted, you can readjust the first foot by lifting that heel up (that ball is still providing weight), and pivot the heel back less wide, as if you might click your heels Wizard of Oz style. As for foot pain, this is because your whole foot, ball & heel, is struggling to do everything on the pedal all at once, thus stressing the arch that lies inbetween ball & heel (this gets worse in stressful scenarios, as your foot will pinch to "stay on"). The best solution I've found is to adopt a riding style where you can lift one heel at a time (doesn't have to be dramatic), thus alleviating each arch one foot at a time, so that acceleration is coming from that lifted heel foot (opposite foot is more on the heel to counterbalance) This might be getting ahead of things, but is one reason why I mentioned before that EUC is best when you're not trying to do the same thing on both feet. Hopefully that's not overkill, but best of luck! Since you guys seem to have gone past the breakthrough step, it's more a matter of muscle memory hours now, and playing around with foot position I think.
@GreenwithAnvy
@GreenwithAnvy 4 года назад
@@houseofjob I still have the slight fear of my dominant foot not having enough control if I start too wide on the pedal. Then the grip on the KingSong pedal is so grippy and good, it's hard for me to shift my feet! haha. You're completely right, this is something I have to work on. Thank you again for your help. Just saw you you channel and would love to see more videos from you in the future! Hopefully, I'll be decent enough to join the NYC group rides in the future, too! 😅
@houseofjob
@houseofjob 4 года назад
@@GreenwithAnvy Yeah, I can understand the fear, but I assure you, it's the opposite of what you're thinking. If you look at your bails in the vid (I'm assuming you're Mark(?)), the tendency is to be heavier on your heels, and thus your bails are off the back of the wheel. Your heels in any sport are for support / leverage (heavy lifting, squat, deadlift, etc), not for balancing, which is the very definition of what your balls of your feet are for (this is why the earlier footage, which is typical to new EUC riders, it looks like you guys can't balance at all, because there is no utilization of the balls of the feet; heels are actually very secondary for EUC riding, it's really mainly the balls). Perhaps you can start by mounting and going as you may, then experimenting with gradually being able to tip-toe one foot, then the other. I can tell you that I don't even need to leverage my heel to mount my EUC (just to note for reference), all I need is the ball of my dominant foot plus a quick push off of my shin against the wheel body. Anyhoo, you guys are well on the way to getting it for sure, just stick with it! Ha and yes, my channel has been on hiatus for a bit, but I am working on coming back. Don't give up; I myself was a super slow newbie in the beginning, but after a good non-commital 3-ish off-and-on weeks of learning, got good enough to join up on a group ride, so I'm sure we'll see you guys soon!
