It’s interesting, since Smash 4 I pick random with the CPU at 9 as random. I can say after years of these matches I am confident with majority of the cast, and there are always things to learn. Yes playing humans often is something I may lack, but I still find this practice and dedication to the game to be beneficial...offline to online is the biggest obstacle however.
@servatoris2231
@servatoris2231 4 года назад
Offline to online would be a big obstacle mostly cause you don't play against humans. There's a really big difference.
@Matt07373
@Matt07373 4 года назад
Servatoris I have played against just a couple of friends of course, I do fairly well! But my main point really is if you want to just practice in a way it is not a bad method. CPU does crazy stuff sometimes...but you will learn a hell of alot! They airdodge when you input like in Smash 4 but they are way more competent, as if you really are playing a human at times. Also watching pro players and streams helps when it comes to learning human habits. Everyone has their own method to there madness, I just figure I would share mine :)
@servatoris2231
@servatoris2231 4 года назад
Matt073 I mean if you want to practice initially as a really beginner, it isn't a bad way. However, CPUs do the same thing most of the time in certain scenarios. Humans learn and adapt a LOT more so if you want to begin improving a lot, playing with a friend helps. Especially if you are trying to learn a character, getting with a friend irl or in a battle arena and testing them out never hurts
@Matt07373
@Matt07373 4 года назад
Servatoris of course you are right! That was something I was doing with a friend about a month ago, alot of last stock last hit scenarios actually. But I adapted as time went on, so it depends on your knowledge and muscle memory of everything I mentioned. The CPU yes is predictable and does NOT DI properly when sending them to the blastzone, but again just for offline practice purposes
@hinamiravenroot7162
@hinamiravenroot7162 3 года назад
@@Matt07373 CPU's teach really bad habits Level 1-8 lets you get away with spamming airials while level 9 reads your inputs conditioning you into overusing shield and rolls. I just started playing smash a little under a year ago and have improved very quickly my recommendation is to learn inkling because her kit requires you to learn a lot of skills such as spacing and patience “when to use roller” yes she has a different mechanic than all other characters “ink tank” but she is a relatively fundamental character also playing her forces you to learn ultimates strange buffering system with up throw up air

I would always recommend Pokémon Trainer to a new player. Yes, you do have to learn 3 characters instead of focusing on one, but I think that's the best thing for new players. With Squirtle, they learn how to play rushdown and combo. Ivysaur teaches how to play zoners or sword fighters (to an extent). Charizard teaches how to play slow heavy hitters. None of these characters on their own are very difficult to pick up, yet there is a TON of room for learning cool new things. B-reversing razor leaf and flame breath, switching Pokémon to recover or avoid moves, vine whip kill confirms, and much more can be applied to gameplay as the player grows in skill. Plus, like was said in the video, new players often switch off of their first characters. If they ever switch off of PT, they will likely be able to transfer a lot of gameplay from one of the Pokémon to whatever they move to in the future.

I gotta say dabbling with all characters is a good thing to do. Meta Knight (one of my two loyalty mains) keeps improving because of stuff I learn from playing other characters. Meta Knight was my worst character for the longest time until I picked up Sheik and everything clicked and I started kicking butt. After a while I noticed I stayed in the air too long and never used my grounded attacks except for dash grab/attack, so what better character to force you to stay on the ground than Little Mac? Then my Meta Knight was more well rounded since he didn't ignore grounded options. Then there's a lot of other small things that other characters helped me get better with Meta Knight because Meta Knight can just kinda get away with certain things, but those characters may focus on a certain aspect more than other characters in the roster, giving me a new perspective on how I can control Meta Knight. Currently I'm focusing on more general movements that all characters in the roster can use, and my mentality, also wanted an excuse to use my other loyalty main Lucario. Lucario is incredibly sluggish compared to Meta Knight and a bunch of characters I like to use when I play more casually, and short range compared to the slower characters I use. So I have to take advantage of improving with general mechanics that help Lucario out a bunch, which will help other characters once I mastered them with Lucario. Lucario is the most stressful character to play out of the roster because of his aura mechanic requiring you to hit the opponent enough times to KO the opponent later on, and at high aura you can die at any moment. If I can stay calm with Lucario, I can stay calm with any other character. Playing with a heart rate monitor lately, and most characters in the roster it sticks to 90-100 when I try, meta knight is 110, but Lucario consistently gets me to 120 and last stock scenarios often get me to 140 heart rate. That's like my heart rate when I go for a jog! lol. Another problem is that unless it's Lucario, Sheik, or Ridley, I often get overconfident in my abilities, or panic from losing. So playing those 3 characters keep my focus, since those 3 need to always focus since they can lose at any moment. Lucario getting KO'd early before aura gets good, Sheik being light and having to outplay the opponent more often, and Ridley being 0 to deathed because he's combo food before he can do the same to the opponent (Nice thing about Ridley is that I stay calm playing him unlike the other two since I expect the 0 to deaths to happen to me. Ridley teaches no mercy because you will not be given any). If I play them enough, I'll probably be in that mode by default when playing smash.

For new people I think booser I mean Bowser is a good pick he’s thick he’s fast and he has powerful moves on top of that an amazing oos option and he can run at people Leon said it in Little Z’s video agaist Leon. Also side b. Frame six command grab that can cheese your opponent sure you can DI that but some people don’t know this and either way it does like 25% and kills at 120. Neutral B... it literally does 35+% it’s ridiculous Nair back air, kills at like 90. Down b breaks shields and f smash kills at 20% not to mention the tip of flame breath ( neutral b ) doesn’t make the opponent fall out of theshiekd break animation so it is extra damage. F tilt and down tilt both kill early at like 100% and are easy two frames. The point is booser is pretty good for a beginner and even top level play though he is combo food.

if it goes to swordsman/swordswoman i’d definitely would go for lucina if u mastered basic movement and spacing mechanics u can go for marth cuz he’ doesn’t require u to learn a new skillset but makes u master the tipper mechanic which is very prevalent in smash. though lucina is generally considered more consistent than marth, as far as results go, bcuz of the toned down tipper mechanic. but after “mastering” lucina if u are able to get urself in a favorable position as marth u will pretty much be able to learn other sword characters or characters that rely on supreme spacing a comparatively important skill which i think is beneficial for pretty much any main character choice u r going for whether its close or mid/long range. if u have all of the basic mechanics like movement (fast falling neutral airs on lucina/marth 100% of the time) and spacing tools like on marth figured out u can go on to any other character with ur basic knowledge and pick them up very quickly. from there its mastery over ur favorite character. also the edge guarding is super efficient and at least for me it was sooooo much fun *.*

I find different characters teach you different things. Ken and Ryu will teach you how it's important to have clean input sequences instead of mashing buttons. Fox, being one of the lightest characters in the game, will teach you how important a good mix up is. Sonic will teach you the value in going off stage to edge guard. Wolf's a good pick to teach about mixing up recovery options. Most of my picks are more for learning how to play around weaknesses and picking up on things that are good across the whole game. I don't like looking at Bowser or Rob as good starter characters because of their side B's. At low levels, they're a crutch that will carry a player without teaching them anything, but when they run into a player that knows how to deal with them spamming, they're an Achilles heel.

I would say any character with multiple jumps, all of the newcomers I knew didn't know how to recover so a character with multiple jumps would be good

Diddy kong might be easy to pick up at low mid level but he's definitely very complex when you want to play him at high level.

I’m going to Say Palu, and Ike. They are both fundamental characters that teach essential stills like spacing, timing, shield pressure, and Kill confirms.
@Rarest26

Ike relies too much one one move though. That might create some bad habits.

Rarest fair point but the video did say for beginners. And I can’t think of a simpler character who can teach spacing than Ike who literally relies on spacing one move.

I’ve always been a Diddy Kong main since I started really getting into SSB in Smash 4. Even though I’m pretty good with Diddy Kong, it’s getting kinda tiring playing the same character for years. I’ve been looking for another character to try to get good at and after looking through the roster and trying everyone out, I’ve decided to dedicate the next few weeks or months to playing Lucina because I know she’s an overall pretty good character, and to me, is just such a fun character to play. I kinda made the final decision after watching this video. And after 5 days my Lucina honestly might be better than Diddy Kong at this point. Lucina is such a fun, simple, and overall great character to play. I would highly recommend her if anyone’s looking for a new character to main or secondary

I honestly think zss is a good character for learning the game because she is a good high tier very fast in every way good moveset and good range. Also (very biased) greninja is a good character if you want someone slightly harder and sheil is a good one if you want to learn neutral and winning that and disadvantage and advantage state as well as combos and thinking on the fly Edit: ice climbers are also good because even without se-syncs it forces you to watch more than one character and know when to approach and back off and how to play with slow characters

Jigglypuff is a good character if you want to learn the importance of defense and learn that poor decisions can lead to losing a stock although not that good of a character is perfect for learning the basics of the defensive side of the game

I think Mr. Game and Watch is easily the best pick for a beginner character. Kirby feels like a sluggish character with a bunch of slow moves, so I would often feel overwhelmed when I couldn't even get hits in. Mario seems well-rounded, but his recovery can be a bit trickier for beginners than top players might make you believe. Every now and then I would use up b and accidentally be facing away from the ledge, so I would fall to my death without being in serious danger. That is definitely not a problem with Mr. Game and Watch.

So if you want to learn the basic things for smash try Mario or Kirby but everyone says that and good reason. I started smash a bit ago but try Mario, Cloud, or if you like dealing damage and losing some speed and so or thing try Gabon or Bowser.

For me if a new player who wants to get into Ultimate I’d present these characters to them All rounder fighters: Mario, Wolf, and Palutena These characters can teach you the fundamentals of the game. They’re really simple to learn and are versatile enough to be played in any playstyle you wish. Personally I find Wolf to be the most fun of the 3 even if his recovery is exploitable in high level play, but it is possible to learn on how to work around that aspect of him. Zoners: Megaman, Samus, and ROB These guys can teach you on how to properly utilize projectiles in neutral. Do know that yes all of these 3 are WiFi warriors since they can camp hard but reaching high to mid level play will quickly remind you on how ineffective camping will be as these characters can easily be overwhelmed. I’d personally pick Megaman out of these 3 since I believe he’s good at teaching on how to zone out characters and even approach with projectiles. Sword fighters: Ike and Lucina Ike’s extremely easy to learn, has good recovery and 2 of his moves (his nair and forward air) are god tier neutral tools. He may be slow but I see that as a caveat of him showing the player of proper spacing and movement as a swordfighter. Lucina is just overall easy to pick up and she’s very adaptable. I feel once players get a good grasp of her they can move on to characters like Roy or Marth who share her moveset but with vastly different properties for different styles of play (Roy for rushdown and Marth for precise spacing and movement). Rushdown: Pikachu, Fox, and Inkling There’s a fair bit of rush down characters in Ultimate but these 3 are probably the simplest to pick up and all 3 are extremely fun in my opinion. Proper movement and approach is key to playing as rushdown and knowing how to string together combos is also important. These guys all have the tools for their purpose and they all do an excellent job on showing you opportunities on when to capitalize your opponents mistakes and habits. Heavies: Bowser Bowser is one of the simplest characters period. He’s the easiest heavy to play but do be aware that just because he’s easy and a heavy does not mean you’ll be getting wins right off the bat. Heavies are all about bait and punish game when playing the neutral and Bowser has brutal punish options but said punish options can leave him wide open if misused or whiffed. Except Up-B out of shield because that’s godlike and works against practically everybody.

For the first 6 months of the game I Switched mains between most of the cast and had a lot of trouble learning the game. Then I picked up wario and inkling and it became so much easier. Then I dropped wario because he’s too hard to play. I only learned how to play other characters through the fundamentals I got from playing inkling and wario. So I think it might be best to just learn the game with a character you like. Or if you are really desperate than play Mario.
