Always good to hear your experiences with educational classes. I have enjoyed her book and DVD. Unfortunately, for many of us, streaming anything is still a challenge due to availability of quality internet. That's why DVD availability for classes are still important. Thanks for the review!

I took Jennifer’s Rainbow Double Weave workshop about 3 years ago. It was amazing and I learned so much. It is definitely worth the time and cost.

I use a rigid heddle loom and still very much a novice. I truly do believe though, that dabbling and exploring is the best way to learn as much of the basics as possible while still searching for your aspiration. You know at this point that weaving is what you want to do, and everything you learn will eventually be incorporated into your knowledge base. Understanding always works best with the working of what you have learned. To me, that is the art of creativity and the thing that makes us ask, "I wonder if this will work?".

Oh my goodness, you have such convincing content on this channel. I recently visited your store FINALLY as I reside in Manitoba, and loved your little oasis. I have now signed up for Jennifer's class, all because of your commentary, lol. I too, love learning and am currently also part of Jane Stafford's online guild and subscribe to Long Thread Media. I thought Jennifer's classes would just be an overlap to classes I already partake in, but your description of the extra tips and content outside of what is in her book has certainly sent me down the rabbit hole once again. Thanks, I love your colour choices!

Trying to find that topic that you can dive into for the rest of your life or for a significant portion of it hits home with me. I've done so many hobbies in general trying to find something that feels right

Me too. I wonder if there’s a way to speed up the process of discovery. Finding weaving found like arriving and now I want to find out which type of weaving is the right for me. I like soft fibre and quite like fine yarn and am fascinated by colour. Maybe doubleweave is the one for me.

Totally agree, knitter, crochet, tapestry, cross stitch, sewing, spinning. Think will always do knitting on n off, love spinning but its the weaving thats taken me on a journey. Started with a sampleit loom, then ashford knitters loom, then a wider rigid loom, then a 4 shaft table and in a few weeks my Schacht wolf pup arrives. Am still on a steep learning curve which I love but with all the crafts I've done nothing has captured me like weaving.

Funny, I really identified when she said she likes learning. I tend to dive deep for some years, then start something new. I haven't entirely stopped weaving and spinning, but the thing I believe will sustain me creatively for my remaining years (I'm 71) is playing piano. Instant gratification, deep deep learning, no Stuff.

Thanks for talking about this subject. I've been wanting to take a class with Jennifer Moore since I saw her speak about her life in weaving at the 2015 MAFA conference, where she gave the keynote address. But I've never been fast enough with the "enrol now" button to actually get in. I was able to visit her classroom at two MAFAs and talk with her though. I'm so pleased to hear that she is giving a doubleweave class online and will search it out. Hopefully my sample will look as good as yours.

Beautifully articulated case for learning double weave. I've been learning lots of structures, but sticking with four shafts, leaning toward hand-manipulated. My two favorite are Totonicapan pickup (Marijke van Epen figured out how to adapt the traditional backstrap structure) and turned taquete.

Ha! It’s the colours from parrot! i’ve been looking at this workshop (and those colours), but the book uses, as you say, skeleton tie-ups. One of the frustrating things about a countermarche loom is the impossibility of pressing more than one treadle at a time. It’s a problem doing eight-shaft deflected doubleweave, too.

Hi, Felicia! Thank you for this info! I'm fearless about doing anything on the loom except for double weave. It's the only weave structure that addles my brain for the very beginning. This kind of color block double weave fabric is what fascinated me when I just started weaving and I've had some confused looks from weavers/shop owners because I didn't quite grasp what I needed to get this kind of fabric. But I do love that I have an 8 shaft table loom (Louet Jane, oh how I love this loom) so I'm not limited by treadles. I know it's slower weaving but I get into quite a flow with flipping the levers. I wove a twill double width blanket last year and I loved the process. I really should try these blocks (I have the book) that I've longed to do from the beginning!

Absolutely!! Double weave blocks was the most fascinating part of it all... makes sort of mind-bending fabric :) 8-shaft table looms worked beautifully for this workshop because you are not limited by the number of treadles... every combination is possible!

My looms are not super wide. I have been interested in double weave to explore wider projects. I also like the thought of double weave showing the reverse image on the back. Interesting

Oh I had no idea you were gonna do a video on double weave! Im about to embark on double weave towels! I can understand it while reading that book, but within 15 minutes after putting the book down I can't wrap my brain around it anymore xD

100% yes! I read it and it makes sense in my head… but the only way I can cement it for myself is actually doing it. Even if it’s a tiny sample… seeing it work is just magical!

This is so wonderful! I have been intrigued since you shared the process on Instagram and now I am convinced. I will have to grab this book for 4 shafts, and take this course once I upgrade to 8 shafts! I am only 2 years into weaving at home and 6 years out from my first studio loom experience, but I am on the same weaving search for myself. What will I be weaving 5 years from now? What could I weave happily forever and always feel there's something new?? Looking forward to the school projects!

Thanks for the useful videos of yours. I want to learn how to convert a single layer weaving pattern into a double layer one. Do you know the process i need to follow or maybe where i can get that info online? Looking farward for your next projects.

What kind of pattern is your single layer weaving pattern? If it is plain weave, you can weave in a double layer on a 4-shaft loom. If it is a 4-shaft pattern, you would need an 8-shaft loom to do it.

So a four shaft loom you can tie up and use, but a direct tie up is a no go, right? Because I can’t use only two treadles for the tabby for one layer...

There is a direct tie up you can use for double weave! Just know that you might have to step on three treadles at the same time. One foot steps in the gap between two treadles to push both of them and the other foot steps on the third treadle.

Yes, you can do double weave on a 4-shaft loom and weave two layers of plain weave (exchanging layers) for sure. I have a course on that in the SOS that launched this past year. For Jennifer Moore’s double rainbow workshop, part of this workshop focused on 4-shaft weaving. Going up to 8-shafts gives more options and allows you to weave 4 layers of plain weave. By playing with the colours in the warp and weft and exchanging layers, Jennifer Moore has created an awesome playground for exploring weaving with colour.

Hi, there! Is there a hack you know of to do a double weave on a counterbalance loom? I have an old Fanny, for reference 😀

I believe there are a couple! Leclerc makes a shed regulator add on for the counterbalance to help make a bigger shed for unbalanced weaves (like double weave) and I’ve heard that doing a direct tie up and raising the shafts individually can help too
