This is a demonstration on how to do the double loop lacing in leather. Start with seven times the length of your project in leather lace or do it in increments. This video shows you how to start the lacing, how to spice the lacing, how to turn a corner and how to end the lacing in easy to follow steps. Hope you enjoy the video.
Happy Leathering

Finally, someone showing hiw to splice in. I've been looking all over for an example of this. I plan on lacing a very large 2 foot by 3 foot panel and I knew I would have to splice in, I just couldn't quite figure it put. Many thanks!

I've watched a lot of videos on how to do this....NOBODY! explains it like you do....Thank you very much!....you have no idea how long I've been wanting to do this to my projects and haven't had the courage up to now thanks to you. I enjoyed the video and once again....THANK YOU!!!😊

Hey Sir, this was, by far, the most in-depth and understandable block of instruction, that I have seen for this stitch! Thank you, very much! I really do appreciate your time, and showing us this invaluable way of finishing some really good work. Now, I just need to learn some other, more complex, ways of decorative stitching. Thanks again!

Thank you very much for taking the time to make the instructional video. I had watched 4 lacing vids before coming to you. The vids I watched didn't pay special attention to the start of the lacing and couldn't see how the lace went thru the first duble loop. I finally saw how it was done with you video. Again, thank you very much

Correction: Kevin....owner of Springfield Leather Company explains many "do's & don'ts & what to be careful of when doing the above lacing. He also explains this lacing on 1 thickness of leather as well as 2 thicknesses of leather. For more of a variety of lacing, see----Costura de Borde del 1 (Mejorado) "El Rincon Del Soguero" When you find this video, you will see other techniques of different lacing.

Thank you for sharing this instructional video. It helped me a lot. I did my first lacing by watching a different video, but when I came to the end, I couldn't finish it off correctly. Then I watched your video and found out why...I had done it completely wrong. I undid all the lacing I had done and redid it by watching your video and now I have a nice finished clutch purse to show off. Do you happen to know how to lace with two different colors?

Thanks for watching and the comment. I purchased my needles from the Tandy Leather Factory, it's on the internet or in a town near you. The needles are called "Lok-Eye" and the 2-Prong lacing needle. If you don't make your own lace the leathercraft lace is also at Tandy.

Thanks for watching and your question. Your problem is a common one to all who have tried lacing. What I recommend is what the whip makers do. Once you have your working length of lace then wet it and anchor it over a hook and then wrap the lace once around a small screw driver shaft with light resistance and lightly pull down the length of the lace that's anchored over the hook. As the lace stretches it also straightens out the lace and makes it easier to work with. Hope this helps.

You might want to try a wider lace. If none are available in your area try making your own, it's not that hard and there is plenty of videos on You Tube for lessons and examples. Thanks for watching

Richard, awesome! I have 2 questions...do you wet your lace and for 1/8 inch lace, what size punch do you use? and why don't you use a round punch? thank you!!!!

Great video. Very well demonstrated and explained. I would like to know how to terminate the Double Loop when you are not coming back around to where you started, and do not have the loop to pull out and stitch into. This type of situation would happen when you are lacing a satchel, or purse that isn't laced along the top edge. Thanks.

+J. Frank Parnell Good Question Frank, after you go through the last stitch hole go under the previous X and then go through the last stitch again and then we are going to go under and back through the previous 3 to 4 stitches, pull taught and cut off excess. Hope this helps.

Richard, I'm new at leather working. I've done your Double Loop lacing..What fun. My problem is that my project is single thickness. How do you end the Double Loop without two layers?
@RichardBlackII
@RichardBlackII 9 лет назад
Carolyn Bailey You have to double back within the lace by running your needle backward inside/within the previous stitches then come out in about 3 or 4 stitches and cut off the excess. Practice on a scrap piece. I like fun.

Hi Richard. Maybe you can help me with something about double loop lacing that nobody seems to want to respond to. Instead of lacing two pieces of leather together, doesn't anybody ever lace around the edge off just ONE piece of leather as a decorative stitch? Splicing into a lace where you have two pieces, like a sandwich to hide the tail ends of the lacing is simple, and dare I say, easy...but splicing into a lace with no place to tuck in the ends out of sight like the best part of a sammich seems to be a bit more challenging. Maybe even too challenging, as nobody seems to have an answer for me. How about it, Richard, have you got a solution? I've been thinking that laying the tail end of the lace you're adding across the top and lacing over it for 3 or 4 holes, cutting the original lace, leaving about 3/4" - 1" then lacing over the end of it could work, but I haven't tried that yet. I suppose the best thing would be to try that first. Thank you.

Would you happen to know how to repair a broken saddle stitch, my thread usually breaks at some point during my stitching process because i only have access to cheap linen thread, and i would like to figure out a way to continue if my thread breaks, any help is appreciated
@RichardBlackII
@RichardBlackII 10 лет назад
The best way would be to back tract a few stitches and start a new thread and tuck the cut off';s into the stitch
@riverwindflutes

Makes perfect sense, is there a good saddle stitching thread that you can reccomend ? thanks Richard
@RichardBlackII

riverwindflutes I like to use Tandy Leather's Sewing Awl Thread for most of all my hand sewing. It's a waxed nylon thread and is very strong and makes a nice stitch.
