For anyone who may be at a loss. If you mess up a foil stamp (misaligned, wrong color, not hot enough, upside down) foil will dissolve in acetone!!!!! It will leave behind an imprint depending on the heat and pressure applied, but acetone, or acetone like solutions will strip the foil away! BE CAREFUL THOUGH, acetone will also strip away other finishes and paint, so I'd test it on a scrap first before diving in lol.

I live in Turkey. We just bought this machine. On the back of the leather wallet, I will write the names of the customers on the narrow compartment where the hand can easily enter. I want the text to be straight and nice looking, without slashes. The wallet can be opened and closed with a magnet and a phone can be placed inside. What method would you suggest?

Trying to figure out if it's possible to emboss or stamp foil into stuff with resin printed stamps. I just don't know if what I'm trying to do absolutely requires metal stamps and fancy equipment and if I'm making one offs or only a handful of stamps with custom designs, that'd get expensive and unreasonable to make/have someone make metal stamps of those. Have you heard anything in the scene about people 3d printing stamps for embossing and foil stamping? (or even epoxy stamps if you make a mold and do it that way too)?

I've been hot foil imprinting for 20+ years. This machine is fine if you're not changing the Type setup often. Otherwise, that is a high maintenance chase. Good tip about repetitive imprinting. I use antique Letterpress with a Howard Imprinter. Mine doesn't have this fancy temperature gauge, that's a nice feature. Leather is a trial and error process like you say. I have found foil printing leather works best using a 2 step imprint. First imprint no foil to make the impression in the leather, then add foil and reimprint. Just make sure your leather is secure so it doesn't move between the iron process and the foil. Also, when you put a large Die into the Imprinter, give it a little time to completely heat up. Being able to spelling backwards is a bonus! 😁 Cheers!

@@TrailBoundco I use a Clamp - I used to do Bibles. The textured leather covers, it helped to pre press (iron) prior to foil. I have clamps with furniture feet pads glued to them as not to mar the leather.

I think it's great! From what I understand, for someone who was already getting the elite pricing, it won't affect you at all. But for anyone who is just getting started is now able to walk in and get the same pricing as everyone else. I don't believe you'll need to do anything with your account. If you signed up for it recently you might be able to get a refund though

Gypo - What I would do - Try to hold the stamp with a pair of tongs or pliers, use heat resistant gloves, heat with a heat gun or over gas or alcohol flame. Try to guess about 120 deg C. Press into leather for slow count to 5. Try again. Try hotter. Try pressing longer or harder or shorter or lighter for desired imprint. Use on scraps of material.

Heat emboss is ska 'blind stamp, where it only makes a stamp in the leather with no ink, or foil. Foils stamping uses foil, and can make a shallower impression.

different leathers like different temps. If it's a dry leather like skirting or tooling I usually keep it around 300 degrees. If it's something with oil and wax content I use around 180 degrees

@@whitandpark ok thanks. I don’t have the machine and am trying to get my stamp hot enough and it seems like it should be I was trying it on water Buffalo crazy horse and just didn’t seem to work no matter what temp. Either didn’t put it all down or melted right through too fast. 🤷🏼‍♂️

Check on an app called ETSY, search metal leather stamps and you will find people/stores that can help you design a logo or name if you don't already have a design mock up, and then they will manufacture the stamp for you. Happy Hunting!

why you are cutting the video after pressing directly and come up with a new scene to show us the quality .. Can you make it in a continuous UNCUT video so we can be sure it's NOT a paid ad and also be sure about the quality of the machine. You know what i mean right!

haha are you saying that I stamped it and then went to a different machine for the next shot? I guess you'll just have to take my word for it. I'm not going to twist anyone's arm over this. First of all, I always make lots of cuts to make the videos quick and to the point. The idea that i'm just some scam artist trying to deceive everyone in the leather craft community for a buck is pretty preposterous. In fact, I don't even have another machine, this is the only heat stamping machine I own. Also, it IS a paid sponsorship video from Tandy. I'm not trying to hide that, i've always been very open about that. But i'm also open about the fact that just because we have a sponsorship doesn't cause me to lose my integrity. I only suggest things if i think it's helpful and valuable to the community.
