i'm a guy that doesn't have much money so i could only afford an All Saints leather jacket but i've made it my own by taking the epaulettes off, so now its a one of a kind and i love it so much. heres hoping that one day i will own the real thing. all you're jackets are just amazing. Edit: i know most people will laugh at me cos they hate All Saints but it really does put a smile on my face.
I’ve done a lot of vintage shopping, and it is extraordinary difficult for someone tall and thin. But if you are shorter, your chances of finding something good are indeed greatly increased.
The sport clad fits you incredibly. Perfect sleeve length, waist length, sleeve drape... we can all pray to find a jacket leather or not, honestly custom or not that fits so well. Cheers!
I'm 5'8" and completely agree about the length of a lot of modern repro jackets. My area of interest is more into the WW2 reproduction field, and my Eastman original contract Werber A2 is my current favorite. I'd love to get a Goodwear A2, or B3 too
Great video! I'm built barrel chested 5'9" and a smallish waist 34 inches. I went with Thurston Bros and the experience was exceptional. I would highly recommend them and ask for Carrie, that was my rep and she really did a great job dialing me in to get the best fit possible. My jacket was roughly $1,150.00 and I did pay extra for the fit jacket, but it was worth it to help Carrie dial in my size and fit.
that's a sharp fit. Really inspired to start wearing leather jackets on my motorcycle now. Somehow they looked costume-y in my mind, but you made me realize the potential here.
Great video. At 5’10” and 180 lbs I’m lucky that most off the rack jackets fit me perfectly. If you live in SoCal, I suggest popping into Butterscotch in Long Beach. The owner has a great selection and good advice on getting the best fit.
For me, most modern jackets are far too *short*, not too long. I like leather jackets to fit a little like suit jackets, length wise. If a jacket doesn't cover my butt its not for me. I understand the short length on many jackets was because of bikers, but how many of these premium jackets are worn by bikers any more? I'd wager not many. I also like roomier fits, rather then the super slim fit many modern jackets have. From the makers Ive seen, Aero seems to be closest to my idea of how a leather jacket should fit, plus they do MTM. But they also aren't perfect. The Japanese Horse hides are the nicest brown leathers Ive seen, colour and texture wise, but when looking at the popular Japanese makers, almost none of the patterns seem to be to my liking, plus again, the fit issue. Luckily I own a very nice vintage brown cowhide jacket which fits me perfectly. Its an older Hugo Boss jacket which I got a very good deal on. The style is perfect, but a higher grade leather and nicer lining, maybe some nicer hardware, would be nice.
Well it depends on the style of jacket. I think shay you want is a long half belt style. That sounds exactly like what you want. Most repro makers don't make that, but a lot of vintage jackets like that exist and those models aren't as desirable so they're usually cheaper
Just about every one of my non-heritage technical jackets has the sleeve opening like that one, longer on the top and shorter on the palm side. All jackets should be this way
I'd love to get a bespoke Johnson leather jacket in color 8 CXL with olive CXL accents. I too frequently buy used older jackets without being sure they'll fit just so I can handle them and see what they're like.
Yeah but with import fees and shipping, they're 1k or more. I know this because I did buy an Aero jacket. They're excellent for the money, but still around 1k
Excellent video! I'm looking forward to follow up one. This is the subject I'm in to. Did you had any experience with Avi leather jackets? They seem to be Meermin alike anomaly
I disagree with what you said about spending at least $700 to over $1k on a quality leather jacket. I have a few leather jackets from master supply co for around $350 to $500. They are full grain buffalo and cowhide. Their jackets have a somewhat flashier aesthetic, though, which I like.
I'm sure those jackets are great, but you should try a used jacket in that $700-1000+ price range for comparison. The patterns used by even Vanson ($700 or so) are phenomenal.
@almostvintagestyle What do you think of jackets from thursday then? I have a pair of boots and shoes from them, which are great value for the materials, style, and comfort. I haven't tried on their jackets, but they are in the same price range as master supply.
Most jackets today are just too short for taller dudes. Do you have a recommendation for larger people. I’m a 48L and everyone seems to recommend Vanson and have them add a few inches to the cafe style jacket. Only problem is that’s way more of an actual riding jacket and I prefer something more casual
@@almostvintagestyle do you think full custom is worth the premium over semi? I really like the aero highwayman but wish it were 2” longer. I also love the Schott raven though I’m not sure they do custom sizing on that. I’m close to the store though so i feel I’d be doing myself a disservice if I didn’t reach out
