An abridged episode of News in Depth highlighting the performance of the Zambian leather industry. Zambia had 5 tanneries until 2015 when the figure reduced to 2. Nonetheless, the number of leather processing individuals and firms have increased to notable levels. In this documentary, Pennipher Sikainda-Nyirenda looks at local and regional opportunities in leather processing. She speaks to leather processors engaged in adding value to a resource that is readily available in Zambia. The Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA) through its African Leather & Leather Production Institute highlights work being done to boost leather processing in Zambia and other parts of Africa through the Regional Integration Capacity Building (RICB) project. She also speaks to Ghanaian Shoemaker, Tonyi Senayah on the African Continental Free Trade Area and its role in promoting intra-Africa trade.
