Holy shite After ~1 month and a half this is done!!! Im so proud of this like.. dam... Im so happy!!! Its done and how it came out!! Insta: sincynic Time: about a month and a half Frames: over 260 frames
yep plus it makes the ending we dont see even sweeter as luanne went to heaven well all know the husbands is going to hell and he have a few billion versions of men like him treating him like he treated her
Because the sad reality is not everyone gets a happy ending. Sometimes you try to escape but get dragged back into the toxic situation you were running from. This is a thing that happens way too often in real life, and that's probably why the songwriter chose to have her fail her escape attempt. Because that's what really happens all the time. But there's still hope, since Luanne gets justice in the end by being assigned to bring abusers down to hell after her loyalty to God.
Not exactly, a Grimm reaper takes people regardless of their life crimes, and they only take them when they're dead, reapers don't really do any killing. I think she's more of some sort of angel of justice.
I like how ireland doesn't exist (a RU-vid user's name) interpreted the ending. Luane wasn't sentenced to Hell; rather, she was beaten to death by her husband and God appointed her to be an avenging angel. The only reason suicide is mentioned is because Luane's bastard husband lied and CLAIMED she killed herself
yep its supported by the final line as well after the husband said aint no one ever loved you it says god loves luanne praise be amen confirming she went to heaven and well all know were the husband is going and what he will experince is gonna make him regret every moment of pain he put luanne threw
@@baguetteofchaos7083 no i think he beat her to death hence the double meaning of the lyrics beat her there then tied her legs to some rocks with chains and dropped her body in the swamp to hide it then say she drowned its why the husband looks so terrfyied when she shows the chains on her ankles cause it imples shes gonna drag him down somewhere like he did to her body
This was the first time I heard this song, and boy, I really believed she was going to run and be free and start a bakery or something in New Orleans, away from that bastard. It was a harsh awakening.
Me when she escapes "He's sleeping like a log" Okay, she's gonna escape while he sleeps "She grabs a cleaver" You go girl, you go and kill that jerk "She creeps up to his lab retriever" WHY IS SHE KILLING THE DOG "She cuts the leash" Okay, she's saving the dog cause he abuses the dog "'Your dog escaped'" I- I am so confused
She cuts the dog loose so that she has both an excuse and distraction for her to escape. (She pretends to go look for the dog and escapes while he looks for the dog.)
Actually, there's also a pause between "The bastard lies in bed now." and "Half sad his wife is dead now." which is about 2 seconds longer than the pause before "She drowned herself." by that logic, he'd also be coming up with a lie in saying she was dead, but that's clearly not what's happening. I believe she really did drown herself.
my heart started hurting for her b4 the song even said "you wont leave" when she grabbed that knife I thought it was going in a different direction when she died I was like nooo she was so close can they do that wow that was so good!!!!! very intense and captivating
An interesting interpretation of Luanne. You really emphasized her loyal nature, and how that’s both her best quality yet the bane of her life. Awesome job! Edit: I also always interpreted the “steamy, hot bed” part is that the bastard had more women in his bed after Luanne, but I kinda like this version where it’s his conscience that makes the bed so uncomfortable.
logic seeker yeah but any time I heard someone call the air around a bed “dank and steamy” that, to me, indicates sex. But I guess it’s just the interpretation
The description of the bed being dank and warm comes immediately after saying he is there alone (no one at his shoulder). Interpret how you like, but there is nothing at all in the actual song that even implies he had other women.
@@MicahWo Exactly. If this occurred during the summer, then the heat and humidity (they live within running distance from a huge swamp, remember) would have been oppressive, and the closed window also makes sense to keep out the mosquitoes.
@@sharkie9975 yep shown by the double meaning of the lyric before her tombstone as well the bastard who BEAT you there as in he beat her to the shore AND beat her to so bad she died then he tied her to rocks with chains and throw the body in the lake and said she drowned herself
@@sharkie9975 Actually, there's a pause in the lines before that too, which is about 2 seconds longer. I really don't see that as plausible evidence because by that logic he would also be lying about her being dead which just isn't true.
When it says he beat her there I hear it two ways. That he beat her to the spot, like he got there first and also that he beat her to death. I just thought that was weird.
the final line just brings me joy for what it implies "aint nobody ever loved you" "god loved luanne praise be amen" implying she went to heaven and that means we all know where the husband is going
Yesterday I found out about "The Ballad of Sara Berry" through an animatic by Sophie Feher [SoapTears] and today I found this. I now have two new favourite songs and animatics.
I'm not religious, but this song makes me really sad. Sounds like she was such a devout christian she didn't originally think it was right to leave, etc. She remained loyal to her husband because of how she interpreted the Bible (?). Christians, don't get mad at me, but I wish people would put there own safety before their faith.
This song interests me in particular for that aspect tbh She doesn't want to go against what the bible tells her is right behaviour bc she believes the afterlife will be better I. E. "the Bible verse says it wont get worse". And ultimately that's... Not untrue. From a religious perspective being appointed an important job like punishing the evil is a big deal, and the vengeance all stemming from the ironic twist to her loyalty feels like justice being seeved And yet... She's still dead. Her faith that being good would give her a happier afterlife was rewarded with her being "loved by god", but she still suffered a fate worse than death with nobody helping her or even caring to truly grieve her once she was gone. This animatic shows the priest she was listening to so avidly crying as he tells her husband, but judging by the lyrics he wasn't someone close with her nobody was, it was just distant regret for someones suicide. Its just... Interesting and oddly fitting how her faith led to her life being so so awful bc she put up with the treatment, without being in vain from her PoV since the promise of a good afterlife was what she was holding onto throughout her living life anyway. It adds to both the tragedy and triumph of the story that she got what she wanted bc it's awful to think that she just wanted to die that whole time, that things legitimately got better for her once she was dead while her life is and always will be an absolute tragedy
I feel bad for my mother she was screamed and shouted by my dad and i as a little kid didnt understand why that was happening and was scared this means they'll break apart and i didnt want that so i told them to not fight cause in the bible verse it said to not break your bond i think and my mom and dad are still together,he occasionally is rude and all and my mom looks okay and pretty positive but im not sure i just wished i couldve understood some things were better to leave than stay as a kid,but now if this ever happend again i'll just leave it
@Evyen Biwer thankyou for your words, this really means alot for me,i hope you'll have a good day and yeah i understand that divorce is okay sometimes and atleast now their relationship seems better.
The Bible actually forbids things like abuse because it's not being a good Steward to your family. There's this thing called cherry picking, where people only use part of the text to spread their own agenda, which is why it's encouraged to read the Bible on your own and draw conclusions
I feel like a lot of people are saying “why didn’t she kill him!?! WHY!?!” And my theory is that no one has a motive except Luanne as everyone already knows what’s going on so if Luanne was to kill him and Luanne is gone, already they think “hey Luanne did it she was beat by him!” So running away was the best option........ until you know death, also I wonder what they were thinking when he was just dead
they probably freaked out cause he ran out of the house screaming and swinging at something and then in there perpestive just dropped dead so if this really happend without a doubt this would turn into a town ghost story
Luanne may be kind but she ain’t smart, the yelling could make sense as a excuse and distraction but out of all things she does is run into a lake like come on find the police or something, he has a car.
the final line is amazing too god loves luanne praise be amen implying she didnt get sent to hell but heaven but was given the previlge to drag him to hell
everyone in the comments being like “did anyone else notice the double meaning of ‘beat her there’?? like he got there first but also that he beat her up?? omg so weird” like yeah that’s what. songwriting is
My favorite frames were when the husband tried to punch Luanne and broke down, because he *knows* he screwed up and now is the helpless one in the situation. Thank you for doing an animatic of this song! It rocks!
i love how the song points out how relgious tradition can become chains but also acknowledges in the end that if those higher powers are real who they love and support is very clear as in the final line after the abusive husband says aint no body ever loved you it says god loves luann praise be amen implying she went to heaven while we all know where the husband is gonna go when its him getting draged into the other side
This animatic was my first exposure to this song and it's so upsetting to me. Something similar happened to my mother, except she got away in that bog. She took her kids and drove away from her life and everything she knew so we could be safe. My mom is my hero
What makes the chain thing so ironic is because theres a Greek story about a guy avoiding death by using Death's chains against him, and in the end the guy dies because death is inevitable. So yea.
Damn that ending is something right out of a Greek Myth, Shakespearean Tragedy, or a Gothic Horror where in the characters get punished for their sins in a way with a lot of Karma/poetic justice where the character reaps what they sew and pretty much creates their own damnation.
You know what's also sad? The fact that the part of the song when people were singing "someone's howling," it tells me that people were aware of the abuse happening, but no one stepped up to help Luanne. ;_;
I'm a dumbass i was like "why is she going to the bank??? is she withdrawing money? And how did he know she'd go there?" -_- ... its the riverbank... not a financial institution... i'm stupid
Wait so....am I the only one that thought when she "plucked the kitchen cleaver" she was gonna kill the b*St*Rd but was disappointed when she just let the dog go free? If she had killed the man, she wouldn't have been *spoilers * killed in the end.
To explain, 35mm is about different pictures on a wall (?) taken by a 35mm camera. So the musical showcases these photos one at a time, telling a different story each time. Sorry if this didn’t help,, I just learned about this musical as well so this is just what I know right now ^^
This is my 5th time listening to the song today, and 2nd time I've watched your version of it. It's fucking amazing and I have so much respect for you. You made a beautiful video that illustrates the song perfectly even if it took a lot of time and effort. I can't imagine how you had the motivation to actually finish something with hundreds of frames, kudos to you. I don't think I could properly express how much I love it and how much respect I have for you and your work!
@@TeethInMyTea A short story by Ernest Hemingway. A wannabe writer (and professional gold digger) is on safari in Africa with his wife... dying of gangrene that he contracted after getting cut by a thorn near some body of water and not disinfecting the wound. As he lies there, he thinks about all the experiences he had had that would have made excellent story material and how he wasted his time and talent by procrastinating and pursuing the life of a girlfriend-hopping gold digger.
I know I'm a little late but ho ly s h it. This was amazing! I love your art style, this is really fluid despite being 7 minutes long, and this is really the only one I've seen for this song. Good job!
4:31 The word *beat* is emphasized, by holding out the word, to suggest that he beat her next to death before chaining her up and throwing her back into the water. I’ve see a few confused comments asking what happened and I just wanted to outline the the context to make it a bit clearer.
He is in a craze because she couldn’t be beaten anymore. She isn’t vulnerable to the abuse and is shown signs of confidence that for as long as they where married, the man tries to undermine. Luanne is no longer taking s***, she gonna drag your abusive ass down to hell and have an eye for an eye.
~ LYRICS ~ Luanne's fat lip is dryin' The bastard's bacon fryin' The shiner on her eye's gone bust and bleeding. He shouts, "Girl, set the table!" But he knows she ain't able. Her arm's done broke, Hung limp like yolk, And softly she's repeating "Leave, Luanne" Why don't you march out that door? Southern woman, he ain't no good to you Leave, Luanne. Louisiana wants war, But it's you dying on her ruby plains And yet, loyal Luanne remains. Ever since he got him laid off, His sanity's just made off. No, he was never nice but now he's cruel He rapes her, and he beats her She don't 'fess how he treats her 'Cause a Bible verse Says it won't get worse, And she won't be a fool. You won't never leave, Luanne, 'Cause if you walk out that door His truck will be gunning for you. No, you won't leave, Luanne, Or he'll give you 'What for?' You got heart where you should have had brains. And so, loyal Luanne remains. Someone's howling, Screams like sighing with battered breath Grating, growling, Never dying In a fate worse than death. But months of such conditions Turn laymen to logicians And tonight the bastard's sleeping like a log. So she plucks the kitchen cleaver, Creeps up toward his roped-up lab retriever, And she cuts the rope, And hope on hope, She starts to shout, "Your dog's got out!" She's got her chance. With no back glance She runs out to the bog, Screaming, screaming "Leave, Luanne!" Leave, Luanne You've got a life left to live In a house hanging off the Golden Coast! Leave, Luanne. You won't forget nor forgive, And she don't feel the stings, the rips, and scrapes As finally Luanne escapes. Swim, Luanne! Swim, Luanne! And in the swamp of beeches, Oh, as the preacher preaches, As the light ( as the light! ) In the night ( in the night! ) Holds through the marsh and brushes As the blood inside you rushes Left and right, ( left and right! ) Hold on tight ( hold on tight! ) Until you reach the bank And you crawl onto the bank, 'Til you feel a little yank on your hair And, stricken, stare at the bastard Who beat you there. The bastard lies in bed now, Half-sad his wife is dead now. She drowned herself in a swamp in wild despair. He thinks he used to love her, But push it came to shove her, A wife disposed, A wife case closed, And no one seems to care, To grieve Luanne. Now no one's on his shoulder, But his mattress don't feel colder, And in fact, it's hellish hot, and the air is dank and steaming. Yet his body starts to shiver When the window cracks a sliver And a fiery fog From the miry bog Pours in the room In a sticky gloom And there the man Sees dead Luanne. He's terrified, But he keeps his pride, 'Cause he knows that he ain't dreaming. And he starts screaming, "Leave, Luanne. Hell sent you back here for more, 'Cause ain't no one ever loved you." But said Luanne, "I've come to settle a score, " And she shows him her feet are bound in chains. And loyal Luanne remains And remains And remains And remains! Someone's howling, Screams like sighing With battered breath. Grating, growling, Never dying In a fate worse than death. Luanne, She cries her miserable wail So the bastards will never sleep again! No, no reprieve, Luanne, She brings their souls down to hell, A caution to the cruelest of men: God loves Luanne! Praised be! Amen!
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR DOING THIS ANIMATIC , THAT IS LITETALLY MY FAVOURITE SONG ON THE SOUNDTRACK AND YOU DID IT SO WELL!!! I was seriously sobbing about how hopeful poor lueann looked :(
Me: *scrolls through YT and comes across this* OOooOooh I love the art! Me(a few min in): *listens and cries to the story* Me (at the end): *still crying* A-at least-t I hav-e O-OC id-deas......
This art? It's like the best thing ever. It fits the storytelling so well, and the way you drew her spirit at the end was 👌👌👌👌 Also: whatever guy is singing this made me 10x more gay than before
one part of the song is weird and has 3 meanings "glare at the bastard who beat her there" does it mean A) the bastard got there before her B) the bastard who has previously beat her was there or C) the bastard hit her there
My moods during this: What? Oh no poor girl :( What is she doing..? YES!! GET OUT! !!! Is she okay? Oh good! She's swimming!! ... What's the shadow..?? NO NO NOO PLEASE NO... THAT JERK??!!! oh sure drowned herself. ??? OH HECK YES SISTER GO HAUNT THAT JERK YEASSSSSSSSSSSSSS what a rolleecoster i must say 😳😳
I just found out something: Luanne set the dog free (I think? There is no mention of the dog afterward so I'm just asuming it ran away), but she herself is forever bound in chains.
This is stellar! I've always wanted to do this song with characters of my own, but you've nailed it! I love the emotion and the images this gives me! I really enjoyed this!
1:29 I absolutely hate this part because I don't know if I'm supposed to laugh or be horrified, so I just have this weird combination of both that makes me wanna barf
