I'm not sure what disturbed me more about Top Banana - the graphics, the eerie lack of music, or those indescribable sound effects.

By the way, I only showed the first world of Top Banana, the graphics actually get worse the further into the game you get. Yes.

I'm with Git on this one, I don't care too much about graphics but if it hurts my eyes or causes me to make mistakes without meaning to then there's problems.

Wow, that Where's Waldo NES game is a mess, with cutoff and other graphics errors everywhere. It actually looks like what you'd expect a glitch screen or area to look like, such as Glitch City from Pokémon Red, Blue, and Yellow.Was Top Banana really a commercial game that was sold in stores? What is worst than the graphics in Top Banana is that not only the graphics itself is horrible, but the sound of the game only make it worse.

I hate when people complain about the graphics of a game when there's nothing wrong with them. I know someone who refuses to play Terraria, because "the graphics are bad" (game is too "pixelated"), yet he plays Minecraft which by his definition has even worse graphics (it's even more pixelated). Apparently, it's because of resource packs. No, sorry, I don't think playing at 1 fps is worth the 64x64 graphics; I prefer 30-60 fps with 16x16 graphics

For me it is less about good graphic and more about good graphical design. If a game's graphics use what they have effectively and understand their limitations it can look great even if the the graphics are older. Bad visual design can kill game's for the players before they even pick up the controller since it is much harder to forgive bad visual design than old graphics. And this is true of games both new and old.

Fun fact, I specifically installed a backlight into my original launch GBA so I could "play" castlevania circle of the moon. Granted it was useful for more then just that game, and I'd already logged probably 50+ hours into that dark land of dimness before I gained the courage, knowledge, and skill to perform the delicate operation, but it was THE game that made the dark screen of the original GBA stand out to me as a real problem that needed to be fixed and not just lived with.

When graphics become a detriment to the gameplay, that's when I begin to start disliking graphics.

The last game, Top Banana, actually started to hurt my head and give me a headache.

To be honest, I have awesome, nostalgic and somewhat bizarre memories of playing Advance Wars in multiplayer....with myself. Let me explain: 1. One day, I found a fork of VisualBoyAdvance that supported link-cable play/link battling, meaning it was finally possible to play multiplayer GBA games!!! (At least, the very few that exist...) 2. I remembered that Advance Wars was a multiplayer game, and it was a strategy game; two of my favorite things! Not only that, it supported up to FOUR PLAYERS!! Can you imagine four people sitting at a table together with a link cable spider taking turns giving orders to little tiny soldiers in an effort to dominate the map? 3. Bored out of my mind, I opened four windows of VBALink and loaded Advance Wars into all of them. I started a game and.... 4. BOOM BOOM KAKAKAKAKAKAKAAK POW POW POW CRASH BANG EVERYONE'S DYING 5. Profit.

The original GTA took the phrase "top-down graphics" way too seriously.

You know you have a point. Even early Atari games had decent graphics enough to make the game playable and nice to look at. Maybe your next video could be "Leave My Ears Alone" or some variation.

The Top Banana segment made me remember the first time I played Empire Earth (A pirated copy). It was buggy as fuck, the colors were a mess and almost nonexistant framerate. And, somehow, I completed the tutorial levels and some of the campaign scenarios with almost no idea what was going on.

I feel "Graphic" don't matter as much as "Aesthetic." It doesn't how the game look as long as it's playable, and that the graphic follow a uniform aesthetic.

Well, a curious thing is that the first Game Boy Wars (Japan only game before Advance Wars) was in the monochrome Game Boy, but the reason it was playable was because the different armies were denoted with white and black colors respectively.

Yeah, the GBA thing is why many games on that platform have such infamously-bright graphics: they tend to look normal on that unlit screen.

the Circle of the Moon thing, is that really a graphics thing or a lighting issue though? the graphics are fine but the system's lighting issues were what dragged it down....even a clean and brightly colored game could be washed out by lighting

The Bedrock block's texture from Minecraft was a leave my eyes alone moment in gaming for me. I used to play Minecraft Pocket Edition when I was digging straight down. and seeing the Bedrock block. The texture of it really scared me for some reason. It scared me so much, I bolted out of the game as quick as I could. Bedrock still sorta does now.

Castlevania Circle of the moon is a genuinely good game. its luck and drop system is rough, but the graphics (when lit up), and music fit it so well.

O.o Oh goodness, I remember trying to play at least a few games on the old GBA. Circle of the moon was one my first alongside Megaman Zero, talk about a multi-point strain in trying to play these games! :< These are fine games, but sadly messed up in certain ways due to the lack of a backlight. It makes you wonder how the Nintendo screwed that up.
