Trail Cameras are capturing people's pics on public land. Should we be sharing these pics? I give my thoughts on the subject.

Never crossed my mind to try and reach out to someone i saw on camera. We are quickly heading to a big brother surveillance state.

Goes double for spring turkey hunting. If you pull up to a public parking area and someone's already there--Leave.

Agree with you 💯! Unfortunately there will always be that guy who wants to stir the pot with the I was there first. Last year a guy caught me on his camera and instead of posting it on social he reached out to me and we had a great conversation instead of conflict.

I have respect for other hunters if I come across other deer hunters while goin threw the woods on public land and I wave to them in go some where else, the only places I have is public land to hunt and like I said I respect there privacy that's the way I was taught to hunt by my elders in the woods. Ty for your video and good luck my friend hope u get a big one this year.

I couldn't agree more, I don't ever share trail cam pics. Too many nosey people that only want to be your friend during hunting season.

I only hunt public, when i see someones trail cam, i stay out of frame if possible, if im already in frame, I wave and walk away. If I see someone hunting, i wave to them so i know they saw me then i try to slip away to not disturb their hunt. When I go to a new piece of land, I try to go at noon when most hunters are out of the woods as to not disturbe anyone. I do however try to talk to people in the parking lot and ask them what area they plan to hint so I can avoid them then tell them where I plan to head. Most people I meet in the woods are awesome and I've exchanged numbers with a few guys. If i get a deer and need help, theres a few hunters I can call and they can call me. Last friday I met and older gentlemen on a new to me section of state land. He was a bit hostile at first "where are you hunting Mr., I've been hunting blah blah area for 9 years and now some asshole has a tree stand by my blind" we talked for 15 min before he realized I was respectful woodsman, showed him my homemade platform and he was tickled pink. "Oh man, ive always dreamed of being able to hint from a tree" he said. He then gave me a tour of the woods and showed ne spots he wished he could hunt (opposite direction of "his" area) after he showed me where he thought I should hunt, he showed me all his 9 year old stick blinds. I explained to him that from another hunters perspective, its hard to tell those blinds are in use and i dont think the guy who set up his trees stand near by is being a dick because he most likel doesnt know you are hunting here. Next day I saw some small bucks from the tree he said he wished he could hunt. At noon I was driving out and passed him sitting in his truck on a trail he doesnt hunt. I hoped out to tell him about the deer I saw in the spot he told me to setup at. The old boy was crying in his truck because he shot a buck and couldnt find it. I talked him into showing me the trail so I could find it for him. Several hours later and permission to search private property, no buck 😢. Long story short, we're all hunters, sure theres some with bad intentions as with any group but over all most hunters I've met are great people.

I agree. When I hunt public I am not looking to make new hunting buddies. I want to go hunt and relax. I definitely don't like when someone capitalizes on someone elses hard work. I got burned in the past talking about hunting spots in a parking lot. Next couple times out I had people in the spots I had been hunting for years with no other people. At the end of the day, it's public and everyone has the right to be there. But don't take advantage of other people's hard work.

I agree and also hunt nothing but public land. I can say in my primary area I have never seen a hunter (over 20 yrs) and never had one on cam as its a 2 mile backpack trek in. One thing that I do where I park is I always hang a cam pointed at my vehicle since Im usually out 3 to 5 days at a whack. 7 yrs ago I had a canopy setup with a sort of fake camp where I parked and a wind storm came thru while I was out. I ended up with multiple pics of an older gentleman with his dog that walked in to my fake camp where I park and he tried to reset up the canopy that had been blown over by the wind. He didnt take anything and looked to only help with concern. I did keep his pic and asked locals if anyone knew who he was so I could thank him, I never posted it on social media so as to keep it as private as possible. I still have never found out who he was but have since caught many suspicious people walking up and looking in my truck and the bed of my truck and even open the gas door but so far nothing bad. As far as hunting areas, it is public land so it must be shared whether you like it or not. This is why you should always have a back up plan if your in an area where other hunters may appear. If someones there, just move on to plan B and leave it at that... jus my 2 cents on the subject.

I agree, leave people alone, and that it is polite and respectful, obviously, to not "harass" someone that got caught on camera... but like you said, nobody owns public land and there is no expectation of privacy when you are out in public, per the 1st Amendment, etc. So while I agree with being respectful about it, we just can't go too far and get angry about someone catching you on camera and maybe even asking about you. I do think it is pretty dumb to post it online and try to find more information about someone, though. We just have to be careful, like you essentially said, to preserve our freedoms and to see what we can see (whether with a camera or with our eyes) out on public land. Our Constitutional rights already get infringed on enough as it is without us working against ourselves to make it even worse. If they are outlawing cameras in some places then they may just as easily outlaw guns or bows. I do understand, however, there is a difference between having a camera in hand and leaving one set up on a tree somewhere. Like I said, we just have to be careful to not hurt our own cause.

i hunt alot of public ground in florida-before orange tape hunters put up treestands the day before season and that was their spot technically cause they only really hold that spot when they are in the stand-most wont hunt from another stand but a few do-rules say ok to do but one might get shot or in a fight if the owner comes alont-den domes flagging tape-its everywhere and stays there for years just like the treestands that go in but never come out0the famous words-didnt you see my tape-its technically littering-but at least you know someone is prob gonna show up one day if you hunt that area-its a real hassel if hunting round the bullies-i try to hunt with not against others but sometimes it gets dicey-trail cameras suck- this another tool that people sit up and stake theri claim to the public ground-when they say-i caught you on my trail cam i say back-i dont feel like im caught are you sure you can hold me bud-its bs-wish they would outlaw em-i dont use-i track-big tracks mean a big buck-people need to try hunting and fishing instead of killin and catchin-its alot of fun but the braggers wont ever conform-that where the selfies come in-they sould read the bible bout the glory of other men-ive said enough

So I do agree with you 100%!!! My friends and I had a tv show on one of the big channels back 12-15yrs ago and we had to come to the realization of what we were doing and the repercussions of it. First I think anyone that gets a pic of you in woods and you will be on cam now it’s almost impossible not to but post it on FB or any other forum is ludicrous. That being said you post your whole hunting life on RU-vid as we did on TV. You have no secrets now just for RU-vid it’s instant and it’s not the next yr like tv was. We would scout, hunt and kill animals and put in tons of work like most of us do and then we would run the tv show and presto someone would recognize the area and next thing we know the entire town would be in that piece. That’s what happens when you post your hunting life on a channel or website. Now should people say hey look at this pic and tell me who it is HELL NO but it’s goin to happen especially to those trying to share their experiences through video. Same with Wardens you become their trophies. As you should be really your gonna be held to a higher standard being in the public.

This is very true. I know someone personally who is a very big hunting celebrity and he even told me never to even come close to putting yourself in a predicament. For instance and speaking of trail cams, I walk a perimeter of public land on the edge with private land to get to a swamp. I make sure to stay far away from that line as not to walk the line itself and get accidentally caught on someone’s camera that is sitting on private. I still never touched foot on private but these are the things you have to be a little more cautious about.
