One of my favorite songs from ATLA! I grew up watching Avatar and I'm sososo glad that more people are discovering and appreciating this gem of a show. If anyone noticed I combined a bit of Avatar's love right at the beginning! The ATLA soundtrack is really one of the best of ANY series.

The whole story of Iroh in that short story is a reflection on how he helps a little kid who's crying, then he helps teens and teaches them about respect and owning up to ones' errors, and finally he helps a joung adult who has no one to believe in him. Believing in him, and encouraging to be better. Iroh helps these people representing each of the stages of life. "Happy Birthday my Son, if only i could have helped you" Saddest words i've heard in a show, because we see a wise and older Iroh taking plessure in having helped these people, we feel that although he was a good father, he wishes he could have been wiser enough to avoid war and helped Lu Ten avoid it and thus be alive. Really its sad on every level

For me, this song always really put into perspective why Iroh did everything he did. The scene when him and Zuko are at the southern water tribe and Iroh tells him that he thinks of Zooks as his son was always heartwarming, but listening to this song and rewatching it... damn. When Zuko was heading out that night, Iroh truly feared losing him. He tries to keep it lighthearted, you can hear the sorrow in his voice. aaaand I've made myself sad.

The real story behind this is when mako found out that he was dying from cancer he wrote this song..and, the new actor that plays him now refuses to sing that sone because it belongs to make the guy who unfortunately died from cancer this is why he didn’t say much in the first season that much and some of the the second season as well..and in the legend of kora one of the characters was named after him..nobody will forget you, mako ❤️

Mako did not write the song. He sang it. It was written by Jeremy Zuckerman. The kicker is it finally hit him that he was about to die from cancer, and that's why he cried in the recording of it. This is all extremely easy information to find.

When I went to war in Afghanistan years back, I thought of this song alot. Glad there is a full version of it. I lost brothers I will never be able to see again. This song is a pure manifestation of the feelings their parents and I had. Til Valhalla Heinzle, Clemenz and Brauner. You'll be in my heart forever.

For me it’s the idea that the boy was taken to fight for something he either didn’t believe in or was misled into believing in, in the case of Lu Ten, the war the Fire Nation was waging against the other nations, and died for a cause that was never worth fighting for. It’s the idea that he and so many others were fighting a war that, really, was about the greed of those who profited off of it, who kept it going, and that this greed marched people to their deaths and left their families to grieve them.

I lost my grandpa a few days ago to diabetes, he was 88 and tried his best to live the final days of his life and my parents and uncle and aunt bashed him when he didn’t take his meds for a day. He would always be happy and comfortable with me and always made sure I knew I was his favourite since I always talked calmly to him. I rewatched Tales of Ba Sing Se today and searched up LFTV and just watched videos. Your video genuinely made me cry some happy yet saddening tears, your voice just making an already beautiful song perfect. Thank you for this masterpiece and making my day a little more enjoyable

I know what the correlation to this song is for uncle, but when I think of it in a wider sense such as all the people who fought in war like WW1, WW2, KOREAN, VIETNAM and many more sadly. I just think of all the soldiers that didn't want to be there. What their thoughts could have been, some reduced to children wishing to see they're parents, some void of emotions simply to avoid the trauma and others losing their minds out of the gruesome reality that is war. I just can't even imagine the scenarios well enough to even connect with them, but I can already feel a bit of the terror that was their life and it's tragic man...

When I first heard this song, I didn’t understand and was like “okay, that’s strange”, but now hearing the reason is sad, I cried, I tried holding my tears, cuz usually I cry in movies but this song changed everything of what I thought, it was the first song I have ever cried to. Imagine someone you love so deeply, and then seeing them die is like a shattered heart, not trying to tell my story but, when I was young, I was in a car accident, after I woke up in the hospital, I didn’t remember anything, a few weeks later I found out my dad had died, and when I got that news it felt like I died, because me and my dad were so close and then hearing that he had died, was hard for me, after I couldn’t interact with anyone at my school cuz I was different, I had a scar in my face which I thought would never go away. When I got to middle school my scar was gone and I had a new dad again, I was recovering again, I had hope that I could live again. Now hearing this song made me realize losing someone hurts even the person who is close to you, it’s hard recovering after a loss, may it be a son, a Brother, or a dad. Give thanks for mako for making this emotional song cuz with this song, it brought people to give thanks to him.

From the moment I met Uncle Iroh in the series, I immediately loved him and how he complimented Zuko’s temper by being calm and cheery. Always he was there, gently guiding Zuko and loving him like the son he never got to. Being the father Zuko really needed. He may have had a rough start, but he realized his choices were wrong; and strove as hard as he could to fix them later in life. We’ll all miss you Uncle Iroh. Mako. Thank you for this beautifully heart-wrenching song for us to remember you by. I hope you and your son are together now, happy and at peace with Zuko’s mother, Katara and Sokka’s mother, Monk Giatso, and Princess Yuae. I’m gonna go hug my pillow and cry now. Thank you.

Man, this really made me think about Iroh's character as a whole. He was a happy father, who was a successful war general living a relitively happy life with the people he loved. Then his son, and I'm assuming his wife as well, eventually died in the upcoming years. He couldn't hold his place as a general, he needed to grieve. He was seen as a failure because of this, and was treated with about the same respect Zuko would get. Iroh tried his best with Zuko, but Zuko constantly rejected him. Iroh somehow continued to stay positive however, and kept trying with his Nephew. He eventually got through to him, and he went on the positive path Iroh wanted for him. Iroh didn't deserve any of this man, it makes me really sad thinking about it and how much I just saw it as "haha funny" when Zuko got angry with him. Thank you for this amazing cover, I've been sobbing listening to it for the past hour and my pillow is soaked in tears now 👏

You might not see this, but everyday, everyone around does their best for you. They love you, and don't care if you have any sort of illness or medical condition. They will always love you for who you are, so don't stop being your self. Find things you love in life, and live life to the fullest. My Dad always taught me to not let my life be dictated by my feelings. Feeling are a good thing to have, so don't let them stop you from enjoying your wonderful life. Was rewatching avatar for fun, this song hit me so hard almost a whole year after one of my best friends died in a car accident, this song hit me so hard that I had to find a full version. even as an extended cover, I can still feel the sadness and mourning that Iroh goes through. not just for the loss of his son(which is painful in itself), but also for the suffering he has been forced to watch his nephew(Zuko) go through, do to his cruel brother and niece. I've always loved Iroh's character even if he is technically supporting cast.

This song made me teary, I lost my grandfather back when I was only 10 years old...he was my best friend and would defend me from my father....he was my only healthy male role model in my life.. he was in the military for 22 years and suffered from PTSD.. We always watched the original version of Rudolph the red nose reindeer together on Christmas Eve.. he would’ve been somewhere in his 90s at this point I miss him more everyday, I haven’t been able to watch since I wish I could’ve said goodbye to him

This song always breaks my heart.. I have a problem where I get unnaturally attached to character’s if I enjoyed the show so this broke me when I found out the back-round for Iroh and his voice mako… I first watched avatar when I was very young, I’m still young but understand the concept of death and loss more now and I can’t even think how guilty and sorrowful he must be that his son died in a war started by his own blood ): I could go on about this for hours but probably shouldn’t, hearing this song never fails to bring me to tears

My friend and I were looking through ATLA music for inspiration for a fanfiction we are co-writing then we found this, your Ursa Lullaby, and your Azula song. We were amazed and absolutely awed at your talent but what shocked us the most was this song very rendition of Leaves From the Vine. We listened to it over and over again and realized that this song fits the themes we were going for and matches the relationship and journeys the main characters go through together to a T. Also, we both think you sang this song beautifully and captured the essence of the song incredibly.
