We were in a very difficult situation on a storm in Sardinia. A boat dropped anchor dangerously close to us creating a big problem as their anchor got tangled on ours making us drag anchor! See you on the video.

🤩GET TO KNOW US BETTER?
We are Patricia and Ed. We have been living on a 46 feet Catamaran and exploring the world on the water! We have always loved to travel and explore new places around the world.
Our first extended trip was a road trip in the US were we got to see over 20 states and ride 30.000 kilometers on our ECO Friendly Van. It was simply awesome and raised our awareness to the fact that we did not have to be tight down to a land home to continue to work and travel. Now, we’re on a sailing exploration journey attempting to circumnavigate the world aboard JOY. Patricia did not have any previous sailing experience, but was willing to learn on the fly.
Now neither of us are too technical and know how to fix things too much, super rich or retired, but we always had big dreams. What motivates us is the possibility to explore and learn along the way, share our experiences here on RU-vid, be helped and help others along this Journey.
We want to continue to uncover the meaning of Happiness, Joy and Kindness along the way and hopefully bring something to you that will also make you think of alternative possibilities in life. We hope you enjoy been part of this journey along side us !

I'm jealous Ed... In Spokane Washington we still have a little snow. Hopefully we're done with snow for the year soon.

Wow you are from Spokane ! We got to see so much of Washington and Oregon when we cruised on our Van there in 2020 ! Loved those states, so beautiful. Hopefully it starts to warm up soon around there. Best Ed and Patricia.

When diving whether snorkeling or scuba use ear plugs. The disposal one work great. It may keep ear infection at bay or some little parasites from entering your ear. That may not be reason of the infection.

That must been a scary moment to have the boat anchor so close then just leave the anchor behind. What would someone do without an anchor other then have to make it to a marina and hope they had a spot?
@SailingJoy
@SailingJoy Год назад
Exactly that. Not much. They had to go to a Marina. I believe it was a day charter boat.
@kirk9671
@kirk9671 Год назад
What size anchor and how much scope do you have out? It is hard to get good scope in a crowded anchorage.
@SailingJoy
@SailingJoy Год назад
40 Kilos. We went to this anchorage for the storm and anchored very far from everyone as it was a very large anchorage. The issue is that shortly after we got that other sailboat that came in and did not do the same. Anyhow ! We did use 6X for the scope and was able to turn 360 degrees without issues.
@kirk9671
@kirk9671 Год назад
@@SailingJoy6x... no wonder you rest easy with h 45 Knott forecast. Thanks.
@SailingJoy
@SailingJoy Год назад
Correct. We also dragged a bit because the anchor from the other sailboat got tangled on ours, other than that all good. 🙏 🤩

I’m actually the skipper of the sailing boat: I give for the sake of the truth, the explanation of what I did. When I realised the anchor was dragging (something that could happen especially during an unpredicted storm) I immediately started the engine and decide to leave; I did not try to give more chain ( no guarantee the anchor would have hold anyway) but on the contrary I set the boat free letting chain and anchor and rope in the water. This was my objective: leave immediately the anchorage, avoid any danger to people onboard my boat and to other boats as well.
@SailingJoy
@SailingJoy Год назад
Understood Paolo. It was a very dangerous situation that could had been easily avoided by anchoring further from other boats. The thunderstorms was very clearly forecasted for the afternoon so no surprise to us when it started. Thanks for the message and to elaborate further providing your rational. I am very glad the worse could be avoided and you were to make it safe back to your marina. Best Ed
