(22 Nov 2019) Protesters in Beirut raised their new revolutionary totem on Friday night.
A giant fist printed with the Arabic word for "Revolution" arrived in the central Martyrs' Square where thousands have been protesting for weeks against the political establishment of the country.
This is the second time such a fist was raised in the square after the previous one was burned earlier on Friday morning by unknown vandals.
The fist has become a symbol of the uprising and protesters replaced it with an even larger version.
Friday also marked Lebanon's Independence Day with demonstrators holding a boisterous parade in Martyrs' Square earlier in the day.
Nationwide demonstrations began on October 17 against proposed taxes on WhatsApp calls amid a plunging economy.
The protesters now are calling for the downfall of the political elite who have run the country since the 1975-90 civil war.
