Jordan set and holds the all-time Finals record of 35 points in a half vs. Portland in 1992. He holds the all-time Finals record of 14 field goals in a half and he tied an all-time Finals record of six threes in a half in the 1992 game.
@NostalgikOne

He also holds the record for 13 field goals in a row in a Finals game in ‘91 vs Lakers, and that 6 threes when he broke the Finals record vs Blazers in ‘92, he did that in the first half on way to that also record 35-point half. He was literally unreal 🐐

The 80's & 90's had better 3 point shooters than their stats showed. We all know that the game then was played with emphasis on a in and out style which meant 95%+ Feild Goals were in the paint and middies. Most 3's were taken at the end of shot clock violations, the end of quarters and attempted game tying or game winning shots. All that considered, who's going to have sparkling deep ball stats playing that style. The 3 ball was seen as a novelty shot, the NBA's equivalent to the Home Run Derby. Let's see these modern NBA players shoot 40% from downtown in that system with hand checking. I've heard modern day players admitting that they loved passing to JR Smith with the clock running down because he'll shoot it and they get to keep a great 3ball % for that game. No wonder the NBA sucks now...

I wish they showed the whole play for his "final shot" more often. He actually causes the steal while down one then they get it back to him and then he does the "push-off" and takes the lead and they win. How many of these highlights were actual "and 1s" go back and look dude was getting fouled on a lot of shots that weren't called fouls and still making em.

It's even better,Remember Jordan scores a tough lay up, then gets steal on malone,then scores final shot. It was a 3 sequence play by Jordan that won that championship. On those final 3 sequences,only Jordan touched the ball for Chicago

Has anyone ever counted on these highlights how often he makes a shot w/his entire body facing away from the basket? Its the most impressive thing on his highlight reels, and after awhile it seems like people see it so often they act like it's just another layup. Dude was magic around the rim. He went out every game to make sure every fan in the stadium, every player, every coach all the announcers and sports writers and everyone watching on tv knew he was the best, and if it meant emasculating the entire opposing roster he had no issues doing it. Got to remember even Chicago media picked the Cavs in that series, they were seen as more complete and more capable of facing the Celts and Pistons that year. Might be the original, and MJ took it personal. Ehlo had good def on him, MJ didn't have a clear shot, and somehow it went in and MJ made sure all Chicago media remembered they didn't pick the Bulls, that's why he was so amped, really was his first slain giant, even if only a relatively weak one. If you react to the Portland 8 3pt game, see if you can find some vid on what lead up to it. It wasn't just Portland that thought he couldn't shoot 3's. Sports media was saying that Clyde was in MJ's league as a shooting guard b/c he had a 3pt shot and could also get to the rim and defend, it was even talked about during the game. Clyde was a stud, HoF SG, but you give MJ a weeks worth of ammo to put into his game and you get history. UMT tape is fire b/c of the soundtrack and the production, this one does a better job of just showing you the highlights.
@cyber6sapien
@cyber6sapien 8 месяцев назад
Great comment. Yeah, I remember the comparisons with Clyde. Make me wonder how much better Mike would have been if Len Bias had lived. I think Bias would have driven Mike to even greater competitive heights, especially since Bias would have been on those Celtics teams that Mike lost to early in his career.

What's weird about that Final against the Blazers is that there was a perception at that time that Jordan couldn't shoot threes. But Jordan shot 38% from three in each postseason of the first threepeat, and 40% from three in each of those Finals. Just goes to show how little folks paid attention to analytics back then.

NCAA championship, NBA rookie of the year, 6- 0 in finals championships w/ 2- three peats in 8 yrs. and only reason it wasn't 8 in a row,he played baseball 1 yr 1/2, never had to play a game 7, 6 -finals MVP, 5 regular season MVP, defensive player of the year title, 10 scoring titles, 3-steals titles, 3 -all star MVP, 2- slam dunk titles, 2- olympic gold medals championships, hardest worker in the game, no weaknesses, most clutch and buzzer beaters when games on the line, etc,etc,etc...all what lebron wishes he'll be when he grows up. You can call it a push off if you wish. But the guy was trailing Jordan, thinking Jordan was going for the drive. But Jordan stopped on a dime and went the other direction, while the defender's momentum kept going the sameway. Russell tried to switch directions but fell, as most defenders did while trying to keep up with Jordan. There is a reason Jordan averaged over 40ppg on the Cavs TWICE in the postseason. It's because Cavs tried to guard him with bigger defenders. Players who were Jordan's size or bigger, didn't usually have the lateral quickness to stay in front of him. Coaches eventually figured this out. That's why in the mid to late 90's you would usually see smaller guards like John Starks defending jordan. Problem is Jordan would just shoot over those guys. So it really came down to picking your poison. You were going to get killed either way.

In full speed you questioned the push only when you slow it down do you think it was a push. As a baller it is just a clearance contact to make sure you don't hit my head when I cross you. If you've ever crossed someone low to the ground at knee level you've been there. But as importantly, no one sees the hand check on Jordan's shoulder, arm, and chest from Russell. Simply put, touch fouls were not called then the way they are now.

If you really think that Jordan could push a 220lb Russell so hard that he loses his footing by barely touching him, you're tripping. If you want to see a legit push off then watch Reggie push Jordan off so Miller could catch the ball & then hit the game winner in game 6 in the 98 ECSF.

MJ’s overall 3 point average is skewed by his early years. He wasn’t great at it early in. By his 90s years, especially the last 3, he became an excellent 3 point shooter. He just didn’t do it much. Oh last thing and this will help you in basketball. That first play where you call I guy a plumber. Watch closely at what Jordan did to him. His back is to the defender and he’s feeling where the defender’s moment is against him (elbow and all). Jordan then moves in one direction and then quickly rolls of the defenders arm and moment rendering the defender helpless. Now to your point, the defender had poor positioning. But the ability react as quickly as Jordan could the moment you touch him is uncanny. But then again…that’s my two cents. Plenty of plumbers in the league today on defense that Mj would murder. Kobe got really good at this as well! As for the push off. Nah…dude’s shoulders were already turned. He was dead in the water. Love your stuff though bro and this is definitely the best MJ reel. Keep it up. 👍
