A 250 mile review is much more effective than everyone else reviewing brand new bikes. The experience matters. I saw some people putting the bike into a tote and putting it in the car where it slides in easy.

My 3.0 bike should be here today. An upgrade from my 2.0. Lectric gave me a new rear wheel with new motor free. Got it about 4 days later. They have also given me a free 2.0 controller and free tires. That's why I'm a continuing customer. They have been awesome.

That’s great to hear! I also found them to be super responsive to issues. Parts availability is major thing to consider when buying an E-Bike. There are lots of brands out there, but not all come through when it comes to service and replacement parts.

Love it. I got the 3.0 Step-Through. Perhaps other first-time e-bike riders will benefit from something I learned on my first ride that was confirmed on another RU-vid channel: on an e-bike, stop pedaling and turn off the throttle before you start a turn - if you try to power through turns your turning radius will get unexpectedly bigger which can put you in danger. Another point: I ordered a 24QT plastic milk crate from Farmplast as a cargo carrier. I will protect the paint on the rear rack by wrapping short bungees around it, then I'll tie the crate with reusable zip ties. Huge carry capacity with low cost and high traditional style points. I"ll be 82 tomorrow (brain and heart age 15).
@tomsgadgetgarage
@tomsgadgetgarage 4 месяца назад
That’s great advice on both the acceleration into turns and the milk crate. You know, I could have used a milk crate a few weeks ago when I was trying to figure out how to get my wife’s car battery to AutoZone for replacement as she was using my car. That milk crate would have been perfect for the bike. I may have to pick one up myself! Happy birthday in advance! Glad to see people from all walks of life having fun on these e-bikes :). I follow a gentleman on RU-vid, Old MrKent, and he’s having a blast out here in Arizona on his Lectric Trike.

What do you mean you're turning will get unexpected bigger? what is the danger? And thank you for this information I appreciate it😊
@AnandaGarden
@AnandaGarden 2 месяца назад
@@Anna-mv9pg - I find that if I apply power in the turns I'm unable to turn as tightly as I might have planned. If I'm turning left into a street that's lined with parked cars, the bigger turning radius can lead to a scary moment. The XP 3 with its high center of gravity riding position isn't ideal for making tight, fast turns - it doesn't feel natural to lean past a certain point, unlike a drop-handle bike.

Thanks Tom for all the good info. Only had my 3.0 (exact same as you have) for a few weeks. My main FIRST goal is to make it as "ANTI THEFT" as possible. Just finished replacing the "quick release" seat lever with a lock nut version. Dual level motion sensor alarm next. Kryptonite chain and a tracker chip. The 259 mile "tune-up" was the best part for me. Keep up the good episodes.
@tomsgadgetgarage

Thanks! Nice! Yah people are running around with circular saws and such nowadays, it’s crazy. Motion sensor alarm and tracker chip sound like a good idea. I feel like theft if a huge barrier to e-bikes and scooters becoming more mainstream. I’ve opted to drive in some cases where I could have ridden a bike because I didn’t want to deal with the hassle of locking up the bike. Motion sensor should buy you time if some starts messing around with the bike.

great review I am in Goodyear AZ much flater but we plan to use them at our place in the white mountains which is hilly and has many Forest roads accessible but a bit rough anyway a rider should be aware that if you are in 4 or 5 mode electric and you have to stop quickly when you start up again and have not shifted down on the electric side.... the bike will take off like a shot the minute you begin to pedal since you left it in the 4 or 5 setting when you stopped. so either be aware and ready or shift down as you stop or after stopping so you dont have that surge but otherwise we both love this bike and very well built for the price

@@tomsgadgetgarage On the overall I love it. I'm ok with the power of the motor. It works for me. I am not a fan of the brakes, front forks, or front light. With dual batteries it's great. My battery was making noise rattling inside the tube. Added more round felt to the battery to stop it. The first Lectric XP 3.0 had several issues. Both were damaged during shipping. The first one, the back brake caliper started leaking left me with no back brake. Replaced that ebike with this new one because of the issues. This new one works much better. I want to try the G-force and Aniioki because of range and the 750 w. My favorite part of Lectric is the support and service. They take care of me on my purchase.

HI Tom, just found your channel. I just purchased the xpedition for myself and was so impressed, I bought the XP 3.0 for my partner. So far, loving my choice and looking forward to the 3.0 arriving. Not a huge bike guy, first time with an e-bike. Never had a flat and changed one, but have ridden regular bikes since a kid. I was curious about you mentioning shortening the chain...for what purpose? If it was such a huge improvement, why wouldn't Lectric manufacturer or ship at that length? Great video and review.
@tomsgadgetgarage
@tomsgadgetgarage 5 месяцев назад
Hello! So I started noticing some issues when riding, specifically around changing gears and chain slipping. When shifting up a gear, the gear wouldn’t full shift. I also noticed some chain slippage when exerting a lot of force with the pedals on uphill starts. That’s when I took it in for a tune up and was told my chain was too long. I did do some research and haven’t seen many posts that call out a similar issue, so maybe it was just mine, not too sure. My chain now looks like the chain at the 1:13 minute mark of this video ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-O0YibMDWBAw.htmlsi=tZs0oDHZkgEKEnJe

Hi, I want to thank you for a nice in-depth review. I do want to ask one particular question regarding hauling. Can this bike pull a two-child trailer? My guess is yes, but I am afraid it would strain the motor and battery. I want to get an Xpedition model for two child cargo seats but that bike does not come with any suspension for such a heavy bike. Maybe I should continue to wait for an upgrade of Xpedition model.
@tomsgadgetgarage
@tomsgadgetgarage 3 дня назад
So I’ve never tested this out with a trailer but I don’t see why it couldn’t work. I’ve seen people riding around on the XP 3.0 with two adults. Now, the XPedition has the advantage of a bigger motor with more torque, but you as you said, no suspension. Slightly lower tire pressure, a suspension seat post, and maybe a Cloud Nine seat could help soften the ride.

Thank you. I'm considering the step-thru long-range model as a "2nd vehicle" for my commute to work, 7.5 miles away. With 2 bad knees and a heart condition, an ebike is the only bike possible. If anything goes wrong with me, I'm not entirely stranded - a little rest (or a pill) and a gentle ride at throttle only can get me safely home. I really, really like that Lectric is a US-based company. Only thing I don't like is that they do not accept PayPal, so I can't purchase using my PayPal Credit account with its 6 months at no interest. I'll have to save up before I can get one. That could take months.

@@tomsgadgetgarage Sadly, PayPal Credit does everything to ensure there's no way to get anything remotely resembling a cash advance from their credit accounts. Based on a coworker's suggestion, I'm looking into the Mokwheel Scoria as an alternative. It costs a bit more, but they do accept PayPal. I'm trying to weigh the pros and cons of each ebike based on my needs. But, my decision may well come down to the ability to finance at that zero interest PayPal Credit offers. So far, I am liking that Mokwheel's ebike uses a Samsung battery, as their batteries have a good reputation.

There's a post on Reddit about how because of the steep fork angle and small tires that the bike can be dangerous to ride. The post also talks about how the sudden surging of the power from the engine also can cause safety issues. If you look at the geometry of the bike you can see how losing control of the front wheel is possible. I was thinking about buying this bike before reading that post in which another person confirmed a wipeout because of the geometry issues.

In PAS, you have to keep pedaling in order to keep the motor running. If you stop pedaling, the motor stops. You can also lightly pedal, basically pedal with very little pressure, just enough to keep the pedals moving. Then of course you have the throttle, which requires no pedaling at all.

As a rider of this bike(long range lectric 3.0) I have to say that if you do anything under PAS 3 the bike is a heavy lumbering turtle and when you get down to one bar....it loses power and you are riding it like a regular bike which you do not want to do..... as its like peddling while pulling a cart full of bricks. also IMO the range must be off, I see no way anyone is getting 65 miles under any circumstance with this bike unless they bring multiple batteries as there really is no optimal riding condition pretty much anywhere except lectric corporate board room pitch meetings. most places there are hills and valleys and hills again. in reality you will be surprised by how fast the bars drop off under regular bike riding.
@tomsgadgetgarage
@tomsgadgetgarage 2 месяца назад
Thanks for chiming in! In my tests I was able to get 39.1 miles in a mix of PAS 2 & PAS 3. And you’re definitely right in that 65 miles is a pie in the sky figure. Lectric states they did their testing with a 180lb rider on flat ground with tires at 30psi with a few starts and stops. In reality, most rides are full of starts and stops with hills, turns, and oftentimes less than ideal roads. You can probably get quite a bit more range out of PAS 1, but the reality is that PAS 1 is quite slow and going at that rate until the battery dies takes a lot of patience. Great for a workout though. As for the last bar of battery, you’re right in that you’re basically doing all the work. If pedaling with no power with relative ease is something folks are looking for, I’d recommend something like the Velotric T1 or T1 ST as they are super light at 36lbs. When it comes to bikes and e-scooters, I would honestly expect anywhere from 50%-60% range in everyday conditions.

I am looking forward to them making more cleaner bikes in the future in relation to wires. my lectric xp 3.0 has wires all over the place in the front and along the frame. it just looks messy. I am also hoping they do something that allows you to lock the bike in place when you fold it. the videos are like oh, its so easy and a joy to fold your bike and put it in the car....but in reality, its awkward heavy and unwieldly leading to it falling on the concrete and the chair comes off and things get bent. sorry, but I dont see women being able to lift this without it being an back breaking ordeal.
@tomsgadgetgarage
@tomsgadgetgarage 6 месяцев назад
I saw a couple other bikes out there with magnetic locking mechanisms. I’m hoping Lectric will adopt these in the future to keep the two halves together.

@Yakwoodz no this is one of the better bikes on the market. But they need to do something about being able to lock the bike together so it doesn’t swing away.

“…removed 6 links from the chain…” 👀 Why so many??
@tomsgadgetgarage
@tomsgadgetgarage 6 месяцев назад
Apparently it was very long out of the box. One thing I noticed was that when exerting lots of force, say when manually accelerating from a stop, the chain would skip. I thought six was a lot when they first told me but they showed me it was now right sized. It now shifts perfectly and no longer skips.

Isn't the purpose of electric is that you don't need to pedal?
@tomsgadgetgarage
@tomsgadgetgarage Месяц назад
So it depends on how you intend to use the bike. The XP 3.0 gives you the option to pedal, use the throttle, and pedal with electric assistance. It comes out of the box as a Class 2 e-bike with throttle and PAS. It can be unlocked to Class 3, allowing for PAS speeds up to 28mph. Some people like to get some exercise in and have flexibility to tackle steeper terrain or longer distances (with assistance) that they would otherwise not have attempted. I have another e-bike, the Velotric T1 ST that can be pedaled as easily as a regular bike but gives me the option to enable assistance when needed. That assistance grows the harder I pedal thanks to its torque sensor. I biked a mountain road which I would have never attempted with a non powered bike. Got a heck of a workout in that’s for sure.

Nice bike, but they could easily reduce the weight
@tomsgadgetgarage
@tomsgadgetgarage 5 месяцев назад
I can definitely see some areas where weight could be reduced, but the question is at what cost? I know some companies incorporate carbon fiber into their designs but it’s super expensive. I would like to see a built in mechanism to secure the two halves of the bike when folding, maybe using magnets.

I am sorry, but people are starting to rely on ebikes for day in day out use, so 250 miles is just not enough to test the most important limit of the bike, and that is how long it will last before needing repairs. Even a cheaply made bike can go 500 miles before issues start to show. Also you seem to always be in Summer like weather, but how does it do in rain or snow? That matters to people using these ebikes as their main mode of transportation.
@tomsgadgetgarage
@tomsgadgetgarage Месяц назад
Well, I do live in the hottest big city in North America haha. Checkout my video throwing this thing around on MTB trails as well as riding it up nearly 2k feet in elevation gain. The MTB/trail ride was a major test of this bike. Definitely not designed for that purpose, but figured I’d put it through an extreme stress test. I try to push out reviews after 250 and 500 miles. I use most of the bikes/scooters I review over 6-12 months or longer and will continue to publish updates if the experience changes. I think I have 8 or 9 videos covering this bike in detail.
@jeremiahcep
@jeremiahcep 29 дней назад
@@tomsgadgetgarage The bane is of all bikes, especially ebikes, is water (whether that is rain, snow or ice). Maybe you don't have to worry about that as much in AZ, but riding an ebike through winter here in MT is a lot more of a stress test than some MTB trails. If people are just using these bikes for recreation then they will be mainly using them in favorable weather, but if they use it for utility then daily exposure to the elements becomes the main concern.
@tomsgadgetgarage
@tomsgadgetgarage 29 дней назад
So the good news is that I’ve started incorporating wet weather riding in some of my E-Scooter videos for IP testing. Given our monsoon season is around the corner, I can incorporate more of that into the e-bike videos, weather permitting. Since I posted the 250 mile review, I’ve had the opportunity to ride the XP around in quite a bit of wet weather, thanks to the La Niña weather pattern we’ve had this year. So far I haven’t had any issues to report back on but will cover it in my 500 mile update.

I recently recieved mine, Yours traveled across the "Globe"? you're in Phoenix where Lectric E-bikes are made, I'm curious why you removed 6 links? I love my Lectric XP 3.0
@tomsgadgetgarage
@tomsgadgetgarage 20 дней назад
Hey! So Lectric is headquartered in Phoenix but the bikes are assembled in China. A least mine was based on the box print. There was slack in my chain and the shifting was off so I took it into a reputable local bike shop. They gave it a tune up, including removing links from the chain. Shifts beautifully now. May have just gotten a long chain from the factory, not sure. The 3.0 is definitely one of my favorite bikes. Super versatile and lots of bang for the buck. There are cheaper options on the market today, but I went with them for their customer service.
