Just ordered the XP Step-Thru....so very excited!!!! I know there will be a long wait for delivery, but well worth the wait. Jeremiah, thank you so much for all your informative videos. Having your video support is one of the main reasons I chose this bike. I especially like the way you expertly present the information. Easy to understand and to the point... no unnecessary chatter and repetitiveness. Well Done! Will purchase your suggested accessories as soon as financially feasible....75 years "young" and on a fixed income.

Thanks. This helped me decide in favor of the Step-Thru version over the regular XP (for the 2.0 models just released May 2021). Given greater speed of ebikes and their tank-weight, anything that adds to safety at high or low speed is a plus. So, Step-Thru's lower center of gravity, and allowing foot on pedal to be a couple inches closer to the ground definitely more useful in dense urban street environment with frequent need to wait at lights and keep bike upright rather than tilted to one side so foot can be on the ground.

Xlnt review, thanks! Was all set to buy one XP and one Step Thru, keeping with the men’s/women’s traditional styles. However, the incompatible battery issue, no matter how infrequent it may arise, convinced me to just buy 2 Step Thru bikes. I see some others (men) did similarly. The lower center of gravity may also help on these small wheelbase bikes, and pedal ground clearance appears to work. I’ll retrain my brain as unisex bikes. These should work great for our 1st RV trip....can’t wait!

Interesting comparison. Pedal strikes and curb hopping would be my concerns. Please consider these when you take the step thru on your next ride. I lean into turns and purposefully raise the pedal on the side that I'm turning towards. Pretty sure I learned that from YT Lectric XP videos. Happy riding !!
@JeremiahMcintosh
@JeremiahMcintosh 4 года назад
If you raise the pedal on the side you’re turning into and don’t pedal in turns you will never strike a pedal on the ground If you do you’re a bad MAMAJAMA! That is if the tires don’t slide out first lol.

Got my step-thru today. I get full leg extension comfortably. Its like a elliptical with a seat. Also nice not having a crotch puncher. Also nice being able to fold it and store it in tight living arrangements. Its shape makes the cargo package feel so sleek and copacetic. Its like a scooter combined with an elliptical with a seat.

Good comparison. Since the crank arms are about 2" lower to the pavement, have you noticed any problems when corning if the inside pedal is in the low (6 o'clock) position? As an avid cyclist, I know that as good practice you should never have the inside pedal in the low (6 o'clock) position to avoid the pedal from hitting the pavement, but a novice cyclist may have a problem remembering this. With the standard XP, this was not a problem since the crank arms are so high off the ground, more so than standard bikes. I wish the step trough version was available when I bought my wife's XP. She had a problem with the seat being so high (when adjust for proper leg extension) that her feet could not touch the ground, so I had to lower her seat all the way down after she had several falls due to this problem. 👍
@JeremiahMcintosh
@JeremiahMcintosh 4 года назад
Sonny this Bike would probably definitely be a better fit for her then with the pedals being lower. I tried to measure the angle of the bike when leaned and the pedal in the 6 o’clock position touching the ground and you can lean the bike between 20 to 25° depending on the pedal position when the crank is at 6 o’clock. I also just took it for a spin in the grass and tried to lean as much as possible in PS1 to make the tightest turn while pedaling and the pedals never hit the ground. I think unless you were leaning this over going very fast and cornering like on a crotch rocket I don’t think you would have a problem. That’s a good question and I may add this to my list of topics for a future video. Thanks Sonny

I had this same question too: is there a danger of pedal/foot/toes hitting ground on the inside of turn (please be careful! Trying to demonstrate this can be result in painful/costly if not fatal catastrophe!). I'm guessing/hoping that the amp hour (AH) rating of the battery is the same? (I think you said the original was 10.4 AH?) (Since both bikes are 48 volts (thirteen (13) 3.7 volt LG batteries in series), the 10.4 AH is very likely created by arranging 4 cells in parallel, and I assume each cell has a 2.6AH capacity. So I guess 13s4p (13 series and 4 parallel) 52 total cells in the pack for both bikes?

I think I'm gonna give my Step-Thru to my mom & order the XP😛 I don't like how low the pedals are, I feel like I'm gonna hit my toes & have them pulled back under the pedals, so I have to pedal carefully🤔 which I don't like having to have my mind on my foot placement while trying to enjoy the ride.

Haha… same! 🤣 also when going thru sidewalks in/out, corners, rough and/or uneven terrain or mild off-roading, with the step-thru I’d be always worried, which would destroy the enjoyment overall especially since we cannot compared them just by watching a video even as good as this, impossible to judge to one’s liking without riding them both 🥴

What a disappointment that they didn't design the step-thru & regular batteries to be compatible! Seems like it is totally do-able. Was that only for a profit motive? (I'll bet all owners that bought extra batteries are pissed!)
@JeremiahMcintosh
@JeremiahMcintosh 4 года назад
No I don’t believe it was for profit I honestly they had to have the frame at that angle for it that actually fold correct. On a good note at least the batteries are only $300 versus some other brands that are $5 to $550!
@JeremiahMcintosh
@JeremiahMcintosh 4 года назад
To be honest I think they had to do it that way to make it fold correctly I don’t think it was a money motive. If that’s the case they would’ve just raised the price of the bikes but they were able to keep the cost low. On a good note at least the batteries are $300 and not $550 like some other brands!

Great presentation, recently I got my bike with multiple problems. One main concern the frame latch opens up when riding the bike; a serious safety issue. Made adjustments as directed by Lectric but the latch continues to open (fully) while riding. If you're buying a bike from them make sure they correct that problem. Personally I would walk away from this bike and seek something more safe even if it cost more. Sorry Jeremiah to mention this on your channel but I think buyers should be aware of that issue. Peace brother.
@JeremiahMcintosh
@JeremiahMcintosh 4 года назад
Don’t be sorry for mentioning anything on my channel if it’s a problem that should be addressed and known. With that being said both latches do work excellent on my bike and stay latched with the locks. I did check them once I heard of the issue on the Facebook forum but everything seems fine. I did have to adjust the one slightly on the step through to tighten it up a little but the locking mechanisms work perfect.

I'd like to know the distance from the bottom of the pedal to the ground also! Also the pedal length, from the centerline of the crank to the center line of the pedal screw. My current folding bicycle with 20 inch tires has short pedals (6 inches), so I dislike riding it. My other bicycles with 26 inch tires have pedal lengths about 6.75 inches....Much better!

Jeremiah, very informative review. I noticed the derailer is flat out from the bike where you attached the drop-down panniers. My Lectric XP, once unboxed, had dents on each side of the front fork and the derailer is flat against the bike (and it will not budge). I am afraid to try it out if this might affect performance or be a safety hazard. Also, the battery will not come out of the case even though the holding button is all the way in. Can you tell if they shipped me a "dud" or if these issues are not safety issues. I never heard back from Levi when addressing the dents upon arrival. I would appreciate your input. I noticed you pulled a derailer out and made it look so easy. Thank you for the honest review.

I watched a video yesterday with the original XP, fixing a flat on the back tire and the owner had a very difficult time...actually needed help putting the wheel back on because if the way it was designed,with just the on long curving arms on both sides pinching in. Thank you for the comparison.. I use a repurposed patio umbrella stand w/a closet pole in the stand to support the bike for service. No need to turn the bike upside down or use a flimsy stand. With the seat still in place, I just lift the bike and place the bottom of the seat post tube over the closet pole and lower down. I have to rethink getting eBikes for my wife and myself. We have two bike shops in our town. Both sell and service ebikes. One sells Specialized and Giant and the other sells Trek and Electra. All of those cost more than I'm willing to spend. So the only options are to buy online and to get a Lectric XP or other similar brand. The problem is, neither bike shop I contacted will service or repair ebikes that they don't sell. I am not a young man anymore so doing the work myself would be very difficult at best. I think I should just give up on the idea of getting eBikes unless someone has a better idea.

I would look around and try to find a bike shop that will work on the XP and if not it is their loss in my opinion for not wanting to make that money. Once you find a bike shop that’s willing to work on it I would stick with that one even if you decided to buy another bike I would buy from the shop that would work on any of them.

Hi Jeremiah. Love your videos. Can you answer this question. I heard changing the rear tire on the classic XP can be very difficult, costly and time consuming. In fact the rear forks have to be “spread out” (mechanically) to get the rim to drop out, and there are some “tricky little parts” to deal with. Is this true for the step through model as well? It seems that the frame design (in the rear) on the step through model is a more traditional (triangle) shape, and the rear tire would be easier to mount and dismount. This will be a huge issue for me in deciding between the XP or the step through model. I like the XP's sporty look, but tire problems i do not need! Thanks in advance!
@JeremiahMcintosh
@JeremiahMcintosh 4 года назад
I have not changed the rear wheel on the step through yet so I can’t verify how hard or easy that would be but I have taken my wheel off the original XP twice without any issues. I’ve heard that the newer bikes are easier than the very first bikes they produced but I can’t be 100% sure. With that being said if you watch my other videos where I changed my freewheel and fixed my speedometer issue you will see that I took the wheel off and reinstalled it twice without any spreader bars just by pulling apart the frame slightly by hand.
@johnfilmore7638

I’m gonna say no for the step-thru. RU-vid “Lectric 2.0 step thru upgrade cassette” that’s the rear sprockets to get a lower climbing gear for pedaling. It involves removing the rear wheel to switch out the cassette, you do have to keep some hub spacers in place while you manuever the wheel into position between the rear “forks” as you slip the brake disk between the pads, but there was definitely no spreading the rear “forks” or whatever they’re called.

I bought my Lectric XP in January 2020 to get rid of excess weight. I ended up losing 77 pounds, and my legs are like tree trunks. I have 2 batteries and have travelled 65 miles round trip. I currently have 2400 miles on my ebike. Life is great... or, was great. Last week, at 2400 miles, the bike broke down electronically. Left me stranded, twice. Had to walk home several miles. Lectric company says it’s still under warranty, but will take a long time to get the part needed to fix. Coming from China and from I got from the tech, this prob is happening to thousands of Lectric bikes. So, I stop riding for how long? A month, maybe2 or 3.... I don’t think so. I am going to buy another bike from another brand cuz this one is no longer reliable. It’s just taking up space in my bike barn. The unfortunate part is I just finished building my solar bike barn so my bike is propelled by sun and keto... I hope Lectric realizes that my warranty is on pause until it is fixed. They can’t take a month or several months and expect the warranty to keep running. So, if u want this bike, I totally recommend it. Just have secondary transportation and Uber on stand by. P.s. no public transportation where I live. ur on ur own here

Great video. I have some questions for the xp 3.0 classic and step thru. I understand the batteries are not interchangeable, but are the battery chargers that came with these bikes the exact same? If they are the exact same then you could use either charger to charge either bike which would be good. And can you charge the batteries without taking them out of the bikes? And can that be done while the bikes are folded too, or would you have to take the battery out if it is folded to charge it?
@JeremiahMcintosh
@JeremiahMcintosh Год назад
Yes the chargers are the same and you can charge them in or out of the bike folded or not. There is a hole in the frame where the battery charge port is so it would be the same charging in or out of the bike.

Can you tell me if the power feels the same between the bikes, the reason I'm asking is because I bought my XP in January and bought my wife's XP in June, and when we are in pas2, the bike that I bought in January pulls stronger and goes faster than the one we bought in June ,and mine is pretty much faster than hers in the rest of the pas modes , except for pas5 she can do 30 miles an hour if she peddles hard enough, so I was just wondering if you noticed any difference at all in the power? excellent video by the way!
@JeremiahMcintosh
@JeremiahMcintosh 4 года назад
I haven’t noticed a difference in power but speed wise my original XP that I bought last September it’s like yours and a little faster in all PAS modes. I wish there was a way I could turn mine down to the same speed as hers so that we could ride side-by-side easier. I think they turned the new bikes down a little bit but they still all maxed out in the higher PAS levels at the same speed I believe. I have to do a little more testing in the high PAS modes but so far in PAS 5 top speed is the same.

With the pedals being 2” lower there is more of a chance of them hitting something so I guess it all depends on where you plan on riding. For me I haven’t had any problems with them being lower.

It really Depends on how well you take care of the battery and how you charge it. There are certain tips that you can follow to extend the life of your battery such as when it’s in long-term storage to store it at 50% and when using try to keep it charged no less than 20 and up to 80%. but I believe it’s rated for at least 800 charge cycles regardless.
