In conjunction with the exhibition, "Psychic Projections/Photographic Impressions: Paranormal Photographs from the Jule Eisenbud Collection on Ted Serios," the Albin O. Kuhn Library presents a lecture by Stephen Braude, professor and chair of the Department of Philosophy in the Library Gallery, Thursday, February 3rd, 6 p.m.
Braude is past president of the Parapsychological Association and is the recipient of several grants and fellowships, including research fellowships from the National Endowment for the Humanities and the BIAL Foundation in Portugal. He has published more than 60 philosophical essays and five books, including "ESP and Psychokinesis: A Philosophical Examination" (Temple University Press, 1979; revised edition, Brown Walker Press, 2002); "The Limits of Influence: Psychokinesis and the Philosophy of Science" (Routledge, 1986; revised edition, University Press of America, 1997); "First Person Plural: Multiple Personality and the Philosophy of Mind" (Routledge, 1991; revised edition, Rowman & Littlefield, 1995); "Immortal Remains: The Evidence for Life After Death" (Rowman & Littlefield, 2003); and most recently, "The Gold Leaf Lady and Other Parapsychological Investigations," in which Braude describes his own encounters with the paranormal.

It’s always fascinating when you’re looking into a random subject and the school you graduated from has a whole lecture!

I love this lecture! I just want to make one correction. Prof. Braude says that the lab evidence "doesn't tell us anything" about psi. But that's not true... faraday chamber experiments show us that psi effects occur even when you block EMF, which means that psi effects are not reducible to (and don't depend on) EMF. That's important.

I would have liked to have heard more about how Ted Serios discovered he could produce images on film when he was “experimenting with hypnosis”. Makes me wonder if he decided, perhaps even randomly, to see if asked under hypnosis he could produce images directly onto film. If so, that is where I would focus experimentation.

Ive been scared and amazed in equal measure by Ted serios' photos from childhood to adulthood. As far as I know, nobody has convincingly debunked those photos. The strange way the photos are close to, but not identical makes things even more intriguing..

I have been doing the same things in photographs and new the photos were part of the collective unconcious mind. I listen to or read books and create images from thoughts. I have had numerous doctors intrigued with my work.

"3. On command, objects would become heavier or lighter" at 32:59. Perhaps, there is another explanation. The influence was made not on objects but on spring balance. It means objects had the same weight all the time, but somehow Home psychokinetically forced balance's mechanism to change its position. Though it's weird and impossible in both cases according to science.

@ar4216 I saw it. Thanks though :) Also, I do *not* consider philipacentaur to be an "obnoxious in your face skeptic". I genuinely appreciate him showing me the video. I was referring to a certain breed of "skeptics". Also, I'm not sure if that other video undermines the experiments discussed by Braude, which seem to prevent/rule out the cheating method that may have been used in the video cited by philipacentaur. But I'm actually still not firmly convinced of anything in the Ted Serios case :)

23 mins in, everything Braude is saying has not only been said better by Ingo Swann, but already incorporated into a scientific regime that delivered *both* controlled/blind *and* "real life" results. It's a long way into a video to say so much that is already known, but that's philsophy professors for you.

How much have you read on D.D. Home or Leonora Piper? IMHO, Piper's psi abilities were estabished beyond reasonable doubt and I would be happy to list some references for you to check out (especially, but not only, original/primary research by the actual investigators). Have you read the 2010 and 2011 Ganzfeld analyses by Tressoldi et al? The EEG/fMRI correlation studies by Standish, Radin, etc? Bierman's presentiment research? IMHO, the evidence more strongly supports psi-proponents. Cheers

@ar4216 I think another problem is that the vaaast majority of scientists are simply clueless about the lab data. They just don't know anything about the topic. I think more scientists would be convinced if they had more knowledge of the lab work.

“He had something that was marketable”? Why didn’t the writer of the book and investigator publish a scientific paper for review as opposed to selling a book? Then there would be no question of the truth of Serios.

There is no video documentation of Serios being separated from the camera. All the videos show him right in front of the camera and even operating the flash button, as he preferred to do. Where is evidence of these cases where he was able to do it away from the camera, this is just an empty claim that this speaker is assuming to be true. No...it doesn't work.
