I tell my friends and family to never invest in a mask. Either get a small panel or save up and get a bigger panel. A panel, of any size, is an overall better value. You can use it to treat various parts of your body. Another great video man!

Just read your comment literally minutes after purchasing the Omnilux mask, lmao. This video followed up on Alex's review of the Omnilux mask. An acquaintance of mine actually looked into panels almost two years earlier. Although I'm usually the kind of guy that would look for the best value and broadest use for such tools just like you, the form factor for the mask seems like a big pro argument in my case.

@@emlinend Actually a NO-heat red light mask is better to keep melasma from getting worse or possibly happening. Alex does point out that panels create so much heat that they have fans built into the panels. What a thorough review, Alex. You covered all the angles, gave pros and cons for each, and most importantly, you relied on science & research, not personal opinion. I like the fact that I only need a few minutes in front of my Mito Pro 1500 to have the same effect as 10-15 minutes with a mask on. Thanks for the comparison.

At 3:45 The newest Omnilux mask provides roughly ~35 mW/cm2 according to their FAQ page on their website which is a bit closer to the 40 mW/cm2 from the low end panels. I'm going with panel most likely, but just posting if it helps anyone with deciding.

Totally agree. Panel is more powerful, more versatile and the session lasts much shorter. For skin 3 min is enough. You didn't mention Mito Original 2.0 panel for $249. In my opinion it's excellent value and takes little space thanks to kickstand you can fold. Mito PRO and Adapt you showed in the video are also great but have larger stand and higher price tag. I would not invest in $400 in a mask if I wanted to do light therapy on face at home. $250 panel will provide much more light. If people need a portable device, still handheld Mito Mobile Flex offers stronger light and much more versatility than a mask for $249!

I am looking to invest in a panel myself, just interested in what your thoughts about lower irradiation + longer duration vs higher irradiation + shorter duration? I have much respect and faith in your thoughts as I appreciate your honestly and objective reviews. I am desperate to use red light therapy, but I am petrified that it will worsen me melasma. I have really bad melasma on my entire face; I am a Fitzpatrick skin type 4. I have tried everything as well as 8% hydroquinone mixed with azelaic acid etc (made a modest difference , I am serious) . I tried Meladerm, Cyspera, Retin A, azelaic acid 15%, Tranexamic acid, Arbutin, Niacinamide, Good molecules, Vit c etc ( and the list goes on) with modest results. I am vegetarian, does not eat processed food and does moderate exercise 3X a week and very vigilant about using sunscreen and reapplying! I would like to try red light therapy but I get mixed results about the effect on melasma, some says it does not affect melasma and some says it does for example Dr Vanita Rattan prohibits the use of red light on skin of color and I believe Dr Sam Ellis made a similar comment. I would appreciate your thoughts on the effects of red light on pigmented skin like mine…much appreciated.

WORD OF CAUTION ABOUT USING THESE PRODUCTS: I am a healthy 30 year old female bought the Infraredi Slim Lite after watching this video to hopefully help with working out and skin health. It is possible that I am photosensitive and I just didn’t know before buying this product. The product tells you to do a 4 min test on your arm to see how you’ll react to the panel. I tested it out with my arm but was also facing the panel with my face and eye protection maybe about 2 feet away. I realize this was a mistake. After doing the test, I felt a huge wave of energy and ended up having a panic attack and dry heaving for an hour. What’s worse is the strain on the eyes. I had the product’s eye protection on but I felt like the light was still kinda seeping through. I saw stars right after and couldn’t focus my eyes for 12 hours. My eyes continued to be strained and dry for the next few days. They became more sensitive to light. I still don’t think my vision is 100% back to what it was. I’m not saying that red light therapy is bad. Clearly it works for people. What I am saying is that everybody’s body is different and you don’t know how you are going to react to it. If you’re testing this product, face your head away with the eye protection, away from the light the first few times so your eyes are safe. Do the lowest brightness possible for testing. Also make sure someone is in the house with you when you test it. I think it was really helpful that I wasn’t alone when I had a panic attack from the energy I felt after testing the panel.

None of these panel devices are cleared by the FDA. They are marketed under the ILY code which is 510K exempt, so most are not even tested to the correct electrical safety standards or photobiological standards. The claims made on the panels are completely off label and there are very few of these rigid panels that are cleared under the 510K route.

I am interested in only skin care benefits. I have a question I was hoping you could help me with please. Considering I suffer from melasma, would a mask be better for me since it doesn't get too warm? Would the MitoPro 300 make my skin get too warm? I'm worried because melasma is triggered by heat. Please answer. Thank you in advance!

Hi, I also can’t use the masks because it brings out my melasma and it’s actually two things 1. heat and 2. NIR (inferred) so I can only use Red light. The omnilux actually left brown dots from the bulbs on my forehead that’s how I put two and two together as to why I was getting brown patches on my cheeks all of a sudden. I had a perfect line of dots across my forehead and that’s exactly where the lights were on the mask. Good luck and if you find a mask or panel please update me. I’m looking to by another led

What would be better for healing the jaw after jaw surgery? I bought a Hooga 300 but it’s kind of annoying having to stick my face in front of the panel. It also doesn’t feel like it’s quite wrapping around my whole face. A mask seems like it would cover all angles of my face and maybe even reach my jaw joints on the side which is another area of concern. My only worry is that the mask might not be as effective as a panel? But if the Hooga mask also deliver near infrared, wouldn’t it theoretically be the same as sticking my face in the panel? My primary goal is to reach the bones in the face.

Alex, you are obviously "Marketing" for the panel companies you have been pushing for over the years, as you know better than what you have stated in this video. You already know that there is no real comparison between a non-contact panel and a flexible contact pad/blanket/mask for power and dose efficiency and arguably deeper penetration. The contact type pad/blanket/mask has very little reflection losses or heat losses...thus the low powered LEDs... the non-contact panels on the other hand have up to 90% - 95% in reflection losses, plus heat, fan/electronic losses on top of that! Contact type devices are HUGELY more efficient in both power losses and effectiveness in treatment. Alex, tell me, what are the percentage of testing and medical studies done with Red Light Therapy using non-contact panels? None you say? How many of the medical studies use contact type LED and Laser devices? All you say? Yes, because of the huge control and dose efficiency compared to the scattered/divergent and highly reflective nature of light panels. Reading or looking on the phone while standing in front of a light panel...really???? Even if you could somehow...what about the risk of cataracts/eye damage from IR light? Also, I'm sure you at least looked at the Omni website and you know that they offer (3) different types of masks depending on what your needs are, each with different LEDs... one for Men, which you used, one for women and one for acne....

Hey Karen - oh is there a particular blog or video on this - I'm keen to learn more.
@LightTherapyInsiders
@LightTherapyInsiders Год назад
Hey, Hmm I disagree with your points here. Let me start with the top. Firstly as I often say I'm affiliated with lots of RLT companies. Including companies that make masks. I have done 3 reviews on masks to date (the 3rd will be published next week) and the commission on masks is actually higher than panels. I believe the markup on LED masks is rather high, i mean just compare the products - one is metal with fans, cords, drivers, hooks, LEDs, control screens, remotes, big boxes etc, the other comes in a small box, silicon with some low powered LEDs. The LED mask companies are in the beauty space - which is known for it's huge margins and also it's huge marketing budget. My point here is financially I'm better off promoting masks. The commissions are better, the conversion rates are better (sleek websites, more 'glam influencers' promoting them etc and thousands more reviews and testimonials). So I'm not simply trying to 'make a bigger buck'. As for this point: > as you know better than what you have stated in this video. To be completely honest - when I filmed this video (~6 weeks ago) I would have wagered my life savings that panels were superior in all areas. Honestly. But I have become a bit more open minded over the last few weeks - mainly after my trip to London and after speaking to a few experts in the RLT field (my interview with James Carroll being one - which comes out this week btw, another being conversations with the team from Neuronic who are getting extraordinary results with such low irradiance figures). And yes now if offered that same bet I wouldn't take - or at least wouldn't risk as much. As I am starting to learn more about light reflection etc. I'm not too sure if penetration is a problem with panels. And on the efficiency front, sure % wise more light from the mask will be absorbed into the body vs a panel. BUT the panel LED's are soo much more powerful thus even if a large portion is lost, you're still netting a big amount of light anyway (though I don't have hard numbers to quantify this). And yes, I want to explore this topic in more detail. A lot more detail. I'm getting asked a lot about mats. And I really can't provide any comments on it as I haven't use them nor do I fully know whats going on with the light. But I do want to know, and I will definitely share the findings with everyone as well. > the non-contact panels on the other hand have up to 90% - 95% in reflection losses Is it really 95% lost in reflection? Keen to learn more. Are their documents to show this? Again I will read it all and share the findings - and of course work it into future reviews and recommendations. >Alex, tell me, what are the percentage of testing and medical studies done with Red Light Therapy using non-contact panels? None you say? Not true, there are half a dozen or so studies done using non-contact panels. And plenty more using non-contact targeted devices. And yes most studies are done on targeted, direct on the skin treatment devices. But so what? Does this mean one is better than the other? No. Not at all. It shows that the targeted direct on skin treatment devices are much easier to measure and no doubt that helps with research. But I have 100's of people who have emailed me over the years sharing their stories about how there $1000 panel has totally changed their life or fixed a chronic problem. I myself until VERY recently had only used non-contact panels. And the benefits I had were profound. So by simply saying there is little research does not equate to 'it doesn't work'. But yes direct contact could still be better, again - I need to learn more and welcome any resources to help me learn more :) > Reading or looking on the phone while standing in front of a light panel...really???? Even if you could somehow...what about the risk of cataracts/eye damage from IR light? I do this every time I use my RLT panels, and have done for years. It's really quite simple? As for IR light risks - most companies supply glasses that filter out a big chunk of the IR light, so I just wear them. >Omni mask. Yes valid point. And maybe I was being too simple with my analysis - but I have experience with the mens mask so obviously referred to that. Though Omnilux have told me that the Men's mask is perfectly fine for women. In all honestly I just think the 'mens mask' name is just a marketing play.

@@LightTherapyInsiders In my first post, I may have been too judgemental, my apologies. My statement of 90% - 95% skin reflection losses was directed at panels specifically, as you also have light divergence. From your video interview of James Carroll, devices like his therapy bed reflect the light back and forth and I assume there are less losses with that device when compared to an open panel, and devices that are positioned directly on the skin, especially lasers which are in phase and not divergent, would have lower skin reflectivity. In this video interview with James Carroll, he collaborates this with his statement of 70% - 80% skin reflection, (@ 32:50 timing point in the video and other places) which I'm assuming was from the device being measured at/near the surface of the skin. I was surprised at that point in the video/interview, that you did not ask him more questions about skin reflection, as that is one of the most important things that is needed to know about light panels. Very much looking forward to a follow-up video with James Carroll and future videos with other subject matter experts.

One thing I think you didn’t consider (unless I missed it) about silicon masks is that they are up against the skin and the silicon is going to be refracting light all over the place and conducting it into the skin, especially as it warms up from the lights and skin temperature. Because of the use of silicon and it being up against the skin, I think your concerns about the distance of some of the leds in skin contact therapy devices may be unfounded

There are better masks on the market than those ones. More power doesn’t always mean better, the right amount for the task is what is best. They are two different products and there are masks with more ideal wavelengths and led positioning than panels, plus they don’t produce heat which causes melasma to people prone to hyperpigmentation (typically women). You can still use it on the body if it s the flexible type and won’t take up room if you live in a smaller place. Overall I find the masks to be a product that target women better than man. I choose a good mask that delivers over a panel, will get a panel if I get obsessed with this therapy and want to do all my body at once 😊

Panels are just not practical for face imo. Especially if you want to do it covertly with roommates. Also I want the red light on my eyelids and areas precisely around the eyes. Unfortunately the power output is such that you wouldn't want to do it without eye protection, so totally defeating the purpose of the panel. I feel like a better product could exist that's somewhere in between. Something that doesn't turn your whole house bright red like a weirdo.
