This is amazing. I have only just 'discovered' this singer and was saddened to learn she passed away so young. Seems she recorded a lot of music to keep us entertained.
You will be pleasantly surprised when you find out that she performed the soundtrack for the film “La Reine Margot ”. The author of this masterpiece is Goran Bregovic.
You said it, many people that can't sing are the first to complain. I've been singing since I was 10 in my church and I am the first to admit not worthy of recording. But that only makes me enjoy all singers regardless of music. I enjoy the ease of which Oraf's Yemen voice heritage does her thing with some Led Zep.
Well welcome to an incredibly awesome new musical world! She doesn't have many fans left at all, so it's always great to see new people discovering her music. :)
Kashmir with an Israeli/Yemenite sound. I first heard Ofra Haza on an album made in the early 1970s for EL-AL airlines called "Songs of Israel". And ive been a fan of hers ever since. G-d rest her soul.
Amazing - Part 1 and Part 2 of this arrangement with Ofra. She was a Goddess. I will always miss her. Fell in love with her the first moment I heard her voice in 1988.
@THESLOWDISCO You're correct in that she did not do the song with Zeppelin. However, this version of the song is not fake, it's from the "Mata Hari" single. It's simple mis-titled by the uploader as "Led Zeppelin Feat.".
@red5llaw You did NOT just call OFRA HAZA an average singer. Go check out her slower songs (even the alternate version of this one), and get your ears checked too.
@red5llaw It's a matter of taste, I suppose. I personally think that this cover is great and does what a cover should: make the song fit the singer. But you can't deny that when in her natural Middle Eastern element her voice was one of the best ever. Listen to "Yerushalayim Shel Zahav", for example, that's true vocal power. You can't find tens of thousands of voices like that.
There was a first version, backing the 'Mata Hari' single which was Ofra singing Kashmir as a 'straight' rendition which I have only heard before as demo on a download site. Then the new arrangement version on the unpublished 'Queen in Exile' album. Finally a slightly modified issue of the latter version published on 'Greatest Hits 2' CD3 along with almost all of Queen in Exile tracks. See RU-vid [watch?v=Fu5Cgb6Yy4Y]
thanks for the info! found separate ways but not open your heart. oh well, maybe soon. saw show me with farscape highlights, that was a treat. great song w/best sci fi show ever. thanks again.
Is this based on Ofra's "other" version of Kashmir - 'B-side' of "Mata Hari" ? The "not-other" version being the "Queen In Exile" album version which can be found elsewhere on RU-vid and has a different dynamic.
this is heavenly.....besides this and "you've got a friend", did she cover any other classic rock/pop hits? thanks for any help. ps--- i think "time in a bottle" would have been tailor--made for her.
Wow. I read through all your tolerant, friendly, tasteful & generous replies to my comments. My comments were in no way to denigrate a beautiful young woman who has since past from this troubled World. I did not make any comments against the State of Israel which I revere & support. I was unaware that Ofra Haza was an Israeli National Treasure. My comments were ONLY about this clip & because I am a long time Led Zeppelin fan. My opinion, So sue me! Bahaha
I'm in Massachusetts too... are you Andrew? lol And I know we exist. I'm not saying I'm the only one. But we're not "plenty" in number by any means. I have 10 CDs of hers, 13 vinyls, and countless mp3s. Am I alone? No. But there aren't many that are huge fans like that either.
haha I'm Brian... in the small circle of Ofra fans that communicate online, there's one other guy in MA besides me... now there's another! haha cool. :)
Nope. I am not Andrew. Yes, we are few. I only have a couple of tapes. I am not a 'huge' fan, but was severely bummed in 200 when I read the news. BTW, I pulled said tapes out and played them yesterday. Our newest feline acquisition had never heard them. That cat was entranced!
She doesn't. She has a lot of people who love her voice and listen to her on RU-vid, but real, hardcore Ofra fans who collect her old LPs and what-not are hard to come by outside of Israel.
@rpvee Whatever. Her Voice is one of tens of thousands that sound the same. THIS cover of Kashmir SUCKS. Big Time. Her voice might be okay for HER own songs or songs written for her - But Led Zep...Leave it alone Ofra. People's voices are Instraments, some suit. some don't. This Track DOESN'T suit her Voice. I'm glad you like her but she does a shitty version of Kashmir. Period.
I'm not a fan of this version, but her other one is way better than the Led Zeppelin one. Also don't you dare say her voice is okay, you tone deaf ignoramus person.
