Led Zeppelin still has a a huge following today.. In 2007 they did a one night event concert.. Called " Celebration Day" . A full concert.. First full concert since 1980 that included all 3 of the Remaining members and the son of the original drummer. To show you how big they are.. still today, When tickets were announced.. over 20 million request for tickets in the first 2 weeks... shut down ticket centers world wide. That's Led Zeppelin
They ended the band in 1980 because the drummer John Bonham died. The 3 remaining members did one concert in 2007...they were in their 60s...and STILL were the greatest ever!!
This video was shot in Australia in 1972 at the Sydney Showgrounds.. Check out 'Ramble On'' my personal Led Zep favourite and a classic example of their musical genius.
It was filmed for the Australian music TV show called GTK in February 1972. It was rare honor as Led Zeppelin did not normally allow TV to film concerts. GTK was only 10 minutes, 4 days a week, had no presenter and tended to concentrate on live music as opposed to the bands pretending to play their singles. It is reputed GTK filmed the whole 3 hour Sydney concert. It was done with hand-held cameras so the filming would not intrude. Clips were shown on GTK on the days after the concert. Maybe three songs all up. Snippets of songs have popped up over the years but I am not aware of any attempt to turn it full film. Led Zeppelin received a copy and this clip of the opening number appeared on one of the band's official DVDs. The audio is from a concert in LA about the same time that had better quality. Zeppelin songs live tend to evolve but concerts from the same time can have the video and audio combined. What is missing is from Sydney is singer, Robert Plant, shouting unsuccessfully to stop the audience storming the grass area in front of the stage. It was decided to press on with the concert and there was no further hassles. The full clip shows the band leaving after Immigrant Song with famous feminist Germaine Greer accompanying them. She had interviewed the band for GTK. I know all this because I was at that concert.
Thought it interesting you hardly know of Led Zeppelin but are familiar with some of their music. Led Zeppelin is considered one of the greatest bands to come together. Springing out of a band called the Yardbirds in the late 60's and into the 70' About a 12 year stint together and producing about 8 new solid albums during that time period; each one highly anticipated to see what they could come up with next to outdo the previous. They did not conger to the press in their day, they just came to play and if you were fortunate like me to see them more than once, you saw some really great shows. Their roots were in the blues and re-writing the music along with their own concepts. You have to listen close to the songs to understand their meaning. The music was powerful and ahead off their time with many cord changes and new approaches mixing classical, with blues and rock. Start with the first album and pull a song off that strikes you and then move to the next album.
This video footage is from their only tour of Australia in 72, I believe. A local news crew was their filming it. It wasn’t originally meant to be synced up to the music and released as a music video but they made that happen years afterwards.
You should maybe consider doing entire Album reviews of Led Zeppelin. I say this cause Led Zeppelin doesn't have a bad song. That is a matter left to the individual. Where you may dislike a Song. There are tens of thousands of fans that will probably disagree with you on that said song. An their library of Songs is very broad from Acoustic Melodies with calming vocals to tremendously searing loud electric guitar an screaming vocals on some Songs. They were like No Other Band ever...
This song gave Led Zeppelin their nickname: The Hammer of the Gods It's about the invasion of Britain by the Vikings, so "Immigrants" indeed. :) The invaded from the east, so when they say, "Our only goal will be your Western Shore," that means the Vikings meant to take the whole place.

Quote from Rolling Stone magazine: “No hard-rock song has ever had a more ominous opening line: ‘We come from the land of the ice and snow.’ It was inspired by the band’s concert in Iceland in June 1970, a month when the sun never fully sets. Plant started fantasizing about Vikings and wrote in the voice of a Norse chieftain leading a sea invasion and expecting to die. It ‘was supposed to be powerful and funny,’ he said. Page’s menacing staccato riff could scare Thor into surrendering, and Plant’s Tarzan holler adds another layer of primal barbarism.”
Jimmy Page was in Yardbirds 1965. Band broke up, and Page put together Robert Plant, John Paul Jones, and Jon Bonham for the New Yardbirds. Was named Led Zeppelin later when an acquaintance said they might go down like a lead zeppelin.
Stairway’s studio version is far more powerful-it’s perfect. Led Zeppelin recorded Stairway to Heaven in the studio striving for acoustic perfection, and they achieved that. No live version can hold a candle to the studio version. The solo in the studio version is far better-Page meticulously conceived and interlaced the notes into the Am-G-F-G chords that accompany them. That’s what gives the studio solo its power and leaves us in awe, which the live versions don’t. I find the live versions somewhat sloppy, including the solo. The biggest problem with live versions is there’s so much interference. Music played in an arena is imperfect. It’s distorted because of the imperfect environment. The studio version captures the essence of what Stairway to Heaven is supposed to sound like: perfect.
These guys were in their 20s when they started this band. Yes they all still play every day. When John Bonham the drummer died in 1980 the band couldn't go on without him . Robert Plant went on to do decades more of new music, "Big log ,29 palms , Tall Cool One,. The Sensational Space Shifters, The Band if Joy. Etc. He has just finished a second colaboraton album with Alison Krause. (Blue Grass country)They will be touring in Europe . John Paul Jones is playing in a mandolin group touring and Jimmy plays every day for hours. Awesome musicians and singer.

It's not original footage to the track. Yes, the track (audio) is from Long Beach, California 1972. The footage is a "mash" from Sydney Australia 1972. It's in the booklet of the DVD. There is no known live footage version of Immigrant Song.
The concert footage is from Zep in Australia 1972, whereas the audio is Zep recorded at the LA Forum 1972. You're right in that Jimmy Page intentionally created a "video" feel of the this song performed live.

Led Zeppelin is no longer together since the death of John Bonzo Bonham in 1979, Jimmy Page and Robert Plant went off and had solo careers. They were the gods of rock and opened many doors to many other genres and the rock scene exploded to Heavy Metal and the rest is history

The footage you are watching is just footage edited together for the song. Probably is made up of pieces of other song here and there. You can see where it doesn't always match up. But the audio part is great
They did a final concert in 2007 with Jason Bonham as the drummer (John's son) and it was at the 02 Arena and a great show despite the fact they had not played together for many years. They did cover Kashmir in that show, and it's a great version. There was a fan at the Australian show who shot footage with either super 8 or 16 film. FILM! Yes, film, and there must have been another one because of the various angles that were spliced together. So it's hard to watch but without it, we have nothing. That version of Immigrant Song is more iconic than the studio version because of the instrumental part at the end, which does not exist on the studio version. It's impossible to play!
Led Zeppelin is an iconic rock band from England. Reform in the late 60s and were active until about 1980 when the drummer John Bonham died. Yes, they are iconic and I’ve had multiple hits . The video footage is from Sydney, Australia during the same year... so they simply combined a live audio track and live video footage from the same world tour in order to make a 'complete' live music video. The funny thing is that you referred to the 'watered down' version in Ragnarok... which is a time edited version of the ACTUAL Led Zeppelin studio recording, which you can find here ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-y8OtzJtp-EM.html.
