Led Zeppelin Live Aid 1985 1 Rock n Roll Stereo (Read Description 1st)

Led Zeppelin's infamous return to the stage in Philadelphia's JFK Stadium in July 1985 to support Bob Geldof's international "Live Aid" event to bring relief to the Ethiopian famine. Introduced by Phil Collins, the band takes to the stage with Tony Thompson on drums & Collins tagging along.
This clip has been cleaned up: the green hues from the 20 yr old + tape has been removed, the brightness & contrast have been balanced out.
The audio has been synchronized to the FM broadcast captured on an old cassette tape. That audio was pretty messed up & had lots of dropouts, hopefully the results are satisfactory. The original audio is heard at the beginning of this clip, the enhanced stereo sound starts around :30 sec into the clip.
Enjoy!!
For best results, watch in HQ with headphones.
PS ---- Queen was in London that day, this performance was in the USA

Jimmy was really high that day. Fortunately, he overcame his addictions (he just didn't stop smoking ...) he showed enormous willpower and discipline when he left drugs and alcohol. That was great, he is alive and healthy, 77 years old now, so beautiful with his gray hair. I love you Jimmy! I love you since I was born and I will love you until the last moment of my life. Thanks to you the world had Led Zeppelin! 🎶🎸❤️

Robert Plant's vocal chords were overflactuating due to years of singing with a lot of compression. But he still did perform in front of all these thousands of people and one's gotta respect that. Plus he's a legend and always will be. So fair play to him, quite literally.

I saw this live on an old TV set in Minneapolis. I'd been listening to Zeppelin for years. Even carried a boombox on my shoulder with "The Song Remains The Same" on cassette cranked when I did the "Walk for Mankind" (eighteen miles) in '84. Everyone hoped that they would reunite, with Collins on drums. My heart and hopes sank when I saw this. It was the Götterdämmerung of Led Zeppelin.

Rock and Roll is probably my favorite concert opener -- but Plant can't sing it as the first song, which is why it surprises me that the band did in fact open with this. Plant didn't do warm-up exercises before taking the stage (ever), which damaged his vocal cords around 1972. Since then he has needed to start out with songs in a lower register, which is why Rock and Roll became the closing number (frequently an encore).

I remember sitting on my bed in 1985 watching this live on TV . It was apparent Robert was struggling with the pitch,and when Jimmy went for the solo I held my breath because I was sure he was going to fall over. They went on too long as Phil missed the ending,due to Robert missing the Ooh yeah bit once. He did it second time around and Roberts like "Stop! I wanna get off". Tony and JPJ made a decent job of it. And Paul did great on bass when JPJ played keyboards on Stairway. They saved a lot of lives that night by not minding what people thought. R.I.P: Tony Thompson.

Was there in Philly! To those who have commented negatively let me give you a little bit of history on this epic day. Fact is that it took place during an extreme heat wave, there were people passing out all over the place, they finally called in local fire departments to assist by hosing down the crowd. It was an epic experience and the crowd was in awe!

Their shambolic performance at Live Aid is the stuff of legend. Such a disappointment for the world who eagerly waited for it. Young people don’t realise how amazing for us Live Aid was. The fact that we all watched on TV the same thing at the same time, was an incredible concept back then. Which is why so many bands got on board and agreed to do it ...for free. It was the best thing about the mid 1980’s. I think. And how quickly it was all organised. I doubt Led Zeppelin would have had time to rehearse.

I was there. It was a Philadelphia Rock Show crowd there, and all anyone talked about all day was seeing Zeppelin. They split in 1980, and no one at the time thought they would see the remaining members together again. Also I remember only seeing Led Zep t-shirts everywhere. When Phil Collins announced the band the roar was so loud we didn't hear John Paul Jones introduced. We finally realized it was him halfway through the set(we were in the back of the stadium. ) It was a memorable show. Clapton was great, the Beach Boys also. Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young reunited also, but for some reason all the Led Zeppelin fans ended up with tickets.

I still have a clear memory of watching this as a 16 year old Led Zeppelin fanatic. I remember thinking at the time that Page's guitar sounded like it was underwater, and JPJ's bass was inaudible. The drums sounded tinny, and Collins was totally clueless. Worst of all, though, was Plant's vocals. They sounded as if he'd smoked a pound of hash before the show.

In 1985, we ZEP fans,would have crawled over broken glass to hear a ZEP reunion of any kind. This was as close as we could get. And it was good enough for some of us. Lastly ,despite all the negative comments on ZEP's performance....ONE very important thing to remember about this "Live Aid" gig. It was for a good ,charitable cause to assist millions of people who were dying of starvation. Lots of $ raised for Ethiopia on this day. And that was what this day was really all about. Lest we forget.

Indominus Solitario What a load of bollocks I'm no Collins fan can't stand the guy , but even I know he's a solid drummer . Led Zeppelin were shit simple as that , don't always believe the hype about them they weren't as good as fans want you to believe, and typical Zeppelin fans always blame Collins for this pile of crap !!
@joeyhuebner10
@joeyhuebner10 6 лет назад
Anthony Mclean- I'm a huge Zeppelin fan, but everyone was at fault for something. Collins, along with Tony Thompson didn't hold up the rhythm so well, despite them being solid drummers. Page was flat out drunk, and Plants voice was burned out from prior concerts. Jones was actually in good form, though. But with the lack of rehearsal, among other things, this performance was destined not to turn out well.

In my opinion John Paul Jones was and is the most talented musician in Zeppelin. It's cool to see the surviving members rock out w/ Phil. Also, in the 80s Robert Plant had a pretty good run during this period as a solo artist w/ his albums "The Principle of Moments", which Phil Collins played drums on.. "Shaken N Stirred", and "Now and Zen."

@@myself1943 what are you referring to when you say Brian Jones?
@eldiablo3794
@eldiablo3794 Год назад
@PickettMusic def! he is such a talented musician and plays so many different instruments. I feel like if Zep never dissolved or Bonham never died, JPJ and Plant would've took Zeppelin into a more commercially accessible musical direction that Plants solo career eventually went into w/ synthesizers. If you listen to Zeppelin's last album, in through the outdoor, it's already a glimpse of the direction they were going in entering into the 1980s.. and the composers and driving creative force behind that last album was JPJ and Robert Plant.
@russw9159
@russw9159 4 месяца назад
So true. His arrangements and musicianship made that band the studio powerhouse that it was. They never were a very good live band, though, in spite of Jonesy's skills. This performance really pissed me off at the time, cuz the bass was inaudible, and JPJ got almost no camera time, despite years of life as a recluse.

Anyway, my boy's singing wasn't the best but, he redeemed himself on "Stairway To Heaven," I know some might disagree. And, WTF Jimmy?! Is it just me or was his guitar playing all over the place?!
