John Paul Jones is playing the bass line with his feet on organ foot pedals while he plays rhythm guitar behind Jimmy. I love Jimmy but JPJ was never given his due.
This song is so much more beautiful than "Stairway To Heaven ", although that song is much more popular. LED ZEPPELIN has made such beautiful music it's easy to forget, that there's many more songs than just "Stairway..." ."The Rain Song " is also very beautiful.
I would also mention simple songs like tangerine or something truly heartfelt like all my love or I'm Gonna Crawl. In my opinion, Robert's lyrical prowess, along with the excellent musicians he was surrounded with, really picked up in terms of creativity and depth on Physical Graffiti - In Through The Out Door.
You check out this new band called “Greta Van Fleet.” People say they sound a lot like Led Zeppelin. They’re an established band and have songwriting capabilities of the best
Would gave almost anything to see these guys in the early days, 1972 I was 10 years old. But thank God I had 2 brothers with great taste in music 🎶 I was introduced to rock n roll in the early 70s. R.i.p. my brothers, you live in ever song I listen to now. Hopefully we meet again.
I've seen led Zeppelin 11 times the first concert I went to in 1971 at The forum they came out and played for 5 hours took a half hour break and came back and play another 2 and a half hours f****** unbelievable
I had no idea a live version of this masterpiece was floating around out there. I love how Jimmy blends rock-God-certainty with vulnerable artistry. And of course the rest of the band being the best in the world at their jobs as well is just as essential. So much heart and soul -- thank you, LZ.
Yeah, they held back showing some live performances from the shows that they released on their 2003 "music home video" entitled, "D.V.D.". Hopefully they will be released in their entirety one day...
Joshua Vargas Thank you so much for this comment I was trying so hard to figure out how JPJ was playing those bass notes and playing acoustic at the same time. I figured they had a guy playing bass backstage but when you listen to the bass line you can tell nobody would actually play like that. I knew Zep wouldn't sell out and use an additional musician. If I'm not mistaken JPJ is also singing background vocals 🤯
John Paul, should get much more respect. He had perfect combination of talent for both Jimmy and John to play off of. So underrated as a player and a composer
My favourite Zeppelin song. What a treat to see this great live version. Best band of all time. And I love me my Beatles, Cream, Queen, Who, Stones. Zeppelin IMO are on a different level.
Right on. Different level indeed.this was this eras super group...my favorite also They were sonic architects of story telling...love Stones ..but ZEP...IS SIMPLY IT FOR ME
I’ve been a Zeppelin fan my whole life. Just discovered this song a couple days ago and am COMPLETELY blown away. Zeppelin is that band that will keep surprising you with classics years and years down the road. The gift that keeps on giving.
Think the Stones in there prime are equal while being different. All bands burn out writing wise. Zeps last two albums were meh. And the Stones have also put out alot of meh. I like the Piant of the 21 century. But Page did some good stuff with other singers also.
Hard to explain to young 'uns the past. 1979 was good times...this happened. Smile now for what it once was, I remember too.All things change yet captured moments exist such as this. Smile again my friends, I remember too.
I was a senior in high school at this time. Watching this is bitter sweet. A special time that is past and gone. Never to return. Its hard to explain to someone who wasn't alive then.
Damn! Such a brilliant composition by Jimmy Page. Definitely one of his best. Totally on another level. The guitar solo always gives me chills. So much passion by JP and RP in this song! Physical Graffiti absolutely one of the best albums showcasing the whole groups’ talents. First album I bought in 1975. ✌️
Oh my God Jimmy that's how you play that Telecaster.B bending ya Face ,,... OMG John Paul Jones playing the guitar the sound of Zeppelin the man that puts it all together John Paul Jones. John Bonham Unstoppable on the drum kid.. the best musicians the best players in the same band is insane.. the Hammer Of God only strikes once in a lifetime and that is it
Man I always loved this song. Beautiful, powerful melodic, and great playing all the way around. One of my favorite songs on my favorite Led Zep album Physical Graffiti . Great live track here too. Glenn Augustyn
Yes! Love the studio version too but this Knebworth performance took it up a notch or two! 😌 And this was the inspiration for me to get a b-bender Telecaster. 👍🏻
This man is the true dictionary meaning of living, breathing sex on a stick. The voice, the hair, the hands, the sick in the pants of the man that obviously wears no underwear.Being 16 and have got that poster of him (on the ceiling above my bed) on stage with that white dove on his fingers. Oh and I did I mention THE VOICE. I saw him in Atlanta,Ga with Jimmy Page. It was just basically advertised Page and Plant. Or something to that effect. One of the best top 2 of any of the concerts I've seen.. I have a hard time deciding between Page and Plant and also the very last Pink Floyd tour. I'm pretty certain it was 1995-1996. It was held at the Georgia Tech Stadium which is outside. Anyway,I'm sure you can see why I can't decide on which is the better show.
Melinda Johnson i have seen Page and Plant too in 95 me thinks in reunion areana in Dallas it was the best single band concert for sure ive been to i was shocked when they played dancing days and some of the other classics. Put it this way the city of Dallas was calling it a Shakespeare event and there was a standing ovation that lasted 5 minutes at least
To think plant lost his son 2 years previously ,he must of still Been in deep grief But he puts a performance in like this , one of the greatest vocalist of all time, and to think he was goin to lose his best mate bonzo 13 months later he's been through some bad times
All 4 of these guys have MJ vs Lebron type of arguments for being the best ever at their respective instruments. Truly an unfathomable amount of talent in these 4 artists. Thank God we got to experience their brilliance while we could.
A testament to how elite this band was; this was seen as a ‘poor’ gig in their opinion, high standards indeed. They nailed this tune, incredible group of men.
Then as it was, then again it will be And though the course may change sometimes Rivers always reach the sea Blind stars of fortune, each have several rays On the wings of maybe, down in birds of prey Kind of makes me feel sometimes, didn't have to grow But as the eagle leaves the nest, it's got so far to go Changes fill my time, baby, that's alright with me In the midst I think of you, and how it used to be Did you ever really need somebody And really need 'em bad Did you ever really want somebody The best love you ever had Do you ever remember me, baby Did it feel so good 'Cause it was just the first time And you knew you would Through the eyes an' I sparkle Senses growing keen Taste your love along the way See your feathers preen Kind of makes makes me feel sometimes Didn't have to grow We are eagles of one nest The nest is in our soul Vixen in my dreams, with great surprise to me Never thought I'd see your face The way it used to be Oh darlin', oh darlin' I'm never gonna leave you I never gonna leave Holdin' on, ten years gone Ten years gone, holdin' on, ten years gone Ten years gone, holdin' on
Love my Rock n Roll. , love Clapton , Van Halen , like Hendrix but Page is the best because he created the greatest Rock guitar riffs in almost all Led Zep songs..Led Zep has hardly no bad songs and all based on Pages genius!!!
Esta canción tiene vida propia, cada vez que la escucho suena diferente. Hoy ha sonado genial.... Que maravilla de solo de Jimmy.. Que sinceridad en la voz de Plant y que dos portentos Jones y Bonhan
When Robert mentioned Kidderminster it reminded me of when i worked there in the mid 70's and a colleague mentioned in passing that he'd seen RP driving through the town centre in a Range rover one day. I was envious.
Enes 1000's of songs play in my head from 70's. This is top 5, such good times back then..... I understand exactly now @53 which was unclear @14. Ten Yrs Friggin Gone
If I actually can narrow it down, a formidable task in choosing a fave Zep joint, this song is the one my heart and ears together say is my mind’s fave joint by these handsome and talented blokes. (A list here of my faves from Zep means a book, a saga, maybe 2-3 books, who knows, about as thick as The Bible or War and Peace, except here, no one will read it or care, and I’m not bothered. If they do like Zep, they already have their own faves with memories and an awesome soundtrack and don’t write books on this platform in the comments section, they prolly have jobs they go to …. … I spend a lot of time alone, it’s GOT to be obvious. Carry on.)
i was there the week after this. rolled out the moonstone pub in liverpool at 11pm and a bunch of us decided to take the chance to get a ticket there, got on the last train to london and managed to get tickets at £7.50. brilliant day.
Jimmy Page playing a Fender Telecaster modified with a Parsons/White B-Bender. Such a powerful song, reminds me of Stephanie, the first girl I fell in love with.
