@@mikew5858, bands and artists, back then, didn't emphasize on playing with themselves! They emphasized on the music that they were playing! Now, they have to emphasize on the f word and grabbing their crotches! Even the girls slither around stage half naked rubbing their bodies!
@@DrRussPhd Hell not even a few years, literally the day after New Years' in 1973 he tried to perform with a flu after having to walk to the concert in the rain after the band's car broke down, and the strain irrepairably damaged the top end of his voice. To top it all off he got throat surgery the same year to get rid of some vocal nodules (nodules he got from singing over 70 concerts in 3 back to back tours in just the first half of the year with barely any breaks) but instead of recuperating after the surgery, he and the band decided to record Physical Graffiti straight afterwards. It's insane how someone could permanently and drastically alter their voice for the worse in just two years, he might as well have just drank bleach and his throat would be in better condition than what he put it through
@@rap2xtrooper878 and to top it all he was a chain smoker and did a lot of cocaine in those days. Robert was not kind with that great voice he was blessed with. I don't know how he is still able to talk normally at all, with all that damage he should talk like Miles Davis.
@@specialteams28 You are overboard. Jones said they were careful not to endow a charity that wasted money by not addressing the roots of a given problem., which is sensible. Commie. Your lot can't run a hotdog stand.
Where in God's name do they find this stuff? It's crazy that every couple of years - some sort of awesome rare Zep footage magically appears! Not compaining...just in awe.
When the audience numbers in the tens of thousands...stuff happens. At this point, it could well be someone died and the kids found this going through Dads old pictures & movies.
A number of observations: 16mm was generally used for TV and documentaries. For field work 35mm was to big, to heavy, to costly. Consumers could shoot 16mm but overwhelmingly went with 8mm. Given it's 16mm, the variety of shots, long zooms, the interviews, the good audio, etc. I think the most likely explanation is: 1. This was shot by a local TV station or national network. 2. The footage languished in storage for years. 3. There was a reduction in redundant facilities with a lot of material getting cleared out and someone took this home. 4. At last someone is going through the material in an old basement or estate. For its age the film is very clean. I have seen a variety of 35mm slides & 8mm movies from my family dating as far back as the 1930's and this looks so much better. No fungus, no cracks. I am going to opine the film has been kept in a climate controlled low humidity environment. What I find interesting is shooting black & white rather than color - in 1972 color movie film was most certainly available. But if it is being shot for television - a little research shows color tv broadcast didn't start in Australia until March 1975, three years after this event.
Wild Biker Bill I wonder how much it would cost to colorize this film that should keep the original black-and-white but they can color is it they should do that too they could maybe make some money if they try to sell it
The greatest band that ever lived... Led Zeppelin !!! The 4 of them were such phenomenal musicians, with such a strong foundation of chemistry. Plus they were unbelievably innovative and creative. Zeppelins improvs were extraordinary. They could play anything they wanted and make it sound incredible !! Led Zeppelin was and still is Legendary !! No band today could even knock on their doorstep, nonetheless be competitive to them in modern era......................Nobody !!! 👍👍
I'm 74 years now..will always emember that day..was fantastic..when the music started..we and heaps of people jumped the fence ..and gathered at the front of the stage...what a memory...
Wow! What a novel idea! Just 4 awesome musicians with no added garbage . I miss those days. Saw them in June 1977 at Tampa Stadium. As there will never be another Beatles, there will never be another Led Zeppelin.
Steven Borgo I had no idea they sounded like that!😳 I was expecting Bonham to sound really burly and rough, and instead him and Jones sounded like perfect British gentlemen.
Sure did brother evn know i was 6 yrs old ill never forget seeing him bang the skins man...he was loud, i mean loud my dad reminded me ova the yrs...my dads a drummer as well and hes 82...he jams zep all the time...so it was a easy step to do...be a drummer like my dad.....and i worship Bonzo and his skill...i just got a tatoo of bonzos 3 rings and have his name and dates of birth and death on my arm , just last week.!
208stroker1 That's cool! Glad you following your dream. I seen Zeppelin live in 1977 in Louisville, Ky. what a show! Did you watch the Kennedy center awards of Heart's rendition of Stairway to Heaven with Jason Bonham on drums? Awesome display. Johnny
I am just amazed that there was a guy hanging out there with 16mm movie camera with audio. AND his cinematography was fantastic. Love the close ups of the band and goupies. Who woulda thought to do that? props!
It’s so weird to hear John Bonham’s voice there’s so little audio of him talking over the years. I saw the band in 71,72,73, and final time 3/5/1975 and I couldn’t believe how much the band had matured and just totally sounded so polished and refined in between 73 and my last show in Dallas in 75.
There's actually quite a few Bonham interviews off the top of my head There's one with both Bonham and Plant in 1970 ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-W0fqgq6ZMZY.htmlsi=l4-gHxmF8MB1-jJy and there's another one from 1980 ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-F-lTQLW-UrE.htmlsi=lLkXD454goNi0xk6
Can you elaborate more? I’m really curious, because so many people say they got sloppier and sloppier live from 73 onward, with a slight recovery on the 77 tour
In the Hammer of the Gods book, it's mentioned that Bonzo was a real family man. He never wanted to tour the world and was quite content playing London and area venues in his band before LZ. Plant and Page convinced him to join Zep. Apparently he missed home and his family very much on the road and drank frequently to the point where he became belligerent and would prank everyone and pick fights. A few people close to the band were quoted saying he was the nicest guy in the world when sober.
What a band! Those were the days. I loved going to see them. I am soooooo glad to be a flower child , growing up in the 60s and learning about the world in the 70s. Thank you rock and roll.
It was my very 1st concert all other bands I've seen like the stones Floyd and many others can't hold a thing on ZEP they were truly the best I've ever seen
No stomp boxes, direct to amps, no floor monitors, tight performances. This is the benchmark. I learnt to use my ears because these legends taught me to use them properly when making live music.
Tim Rubin Halcomb it was a bit of both in 73. Plant did have to undergo surgery on his chords due to nodules, and that completely changed his voice. He was never 100% again after that.
Even when Robert changed his style, he still sounded amazing. He could still hit those high notes when he wanted to. He changed with the era. I love his singing in The Song Remains The Same movie. I like him about the same as I do here.
I just love all the folks leaving comments to mention that they were present at this performance! Reading those testimonies is almost as fun as watching the video footage itself! Thanks!
@@janinapalmer8368 I lived in Australia for 5 years in the 70 s. My son lives in the Blue Mountains now. It still is a good country, compared to many other ones!
This band when they were young, hungry, half healthy. Just astonishing. Before they were road warriors and driven by a label , so much talent and raw energy. Plants voice at that time, it would have been a real blessing to hear them then.
henrik h how this man can dare to compare with Harrison??? You just wouldnt have had the support of so many good musicians in order to come out with something as the Concert for B.D.....envious man!

Cool to see the stage setup and stuff. Just saw the cover band Led Zepagain and realize how true their act is, not to mention the incredible music and sounds. Thanks for posting!
Undoubtedly at their peak here. Anybody who thinks they ever again approached the musicianship during their shows from this period are kidding themselves. Just superb rock n roll.
No wonder Jimmy Page said when he heard Plant sing he thought he must have had a personality problem because he couldn't believe he wasn't already a star.
Plant is really on form for this show, pushing out Rock n Roll at correct pitch rather than going for an octave lower as he sometimes did (hard song to sing though!). This sure is gold footage, wasn't even born yet!
He was only this good in the very late sixties very early seventies. He was the best then but lost his golden voice by the mid seventies. It was all over by then.
Yeah alright, they had a ball. They were very young at the time. But honestly, don't you find it pretty backwards of all the commenting dudes to always, and only, comment about sex, drugs, hair and other shallow attributes??? Yeah, they were a bunch of young British lads, who in the matter of months moved from being just a band playing 20 seats, to a situation where they were considered gods, and were suddenly playing 50.000 seats in the States. And that in the era of free sex and drugs. But they were, and still are, very dedicated musicians. It was all about the music for them. Highly intelligent and incredibly skilled. Page and Jones had been working for years in the recording industry and were considered among the best in the biz long before Zeppelin. And Zeppelin produced some pretty damn fantastic music. It amazes me that all people comment on are the bullshit. Makes you wonder if they even have listened to their records?
Were you at Randwick or were you busy pontificating elsewhere? It was a massive global counterculture the like that has never been seen since! It even changed the government in Oz within a year. But it was very much an orgy of hedonistic drugs, sex and rock and roll. I screwed, tripped, smoked planted cannabis seeds in Glebe police station flowerbed, rocked, rolled, marched against the Vietnam war and was beaten up by US security guards. I WAS THERE FFS! :) :) :)
Thank you for sharing.. I was there, thanks to my big bro, and of all the concerts I got to go to Zepplin always stood out.. Shame we can't capture on video the unforgettable ambience and sound of the day for others who weren't there.. Cheers
holy shit.... no matter how sad your day was but when when you listen to zepplin you instantly start banging your head and next moment you forget why the fuck was i sad.. the real power of zepplin... this never gets old..
Yes you should definitely put it on RU-vid and they can sync the sound to it and it would be awesome maybe you could make some money off of the two I don’t know
