Really enjoyed the video Damon. Climbing the Ben this coming Wednesday for the first time for charity. Tourist path ofcourse but looking forward to the challenge. Thanks again!👍😊⛰
Great video. Hoping to do this on the 20th of August. Any advice would be appreciated. We've done Crib Goch and Bristly Ridge would you say this on is harder/easier same? Thanks
Thanks Abdus, I've not done these routes so not sure. Hardest part in all honesty is getting to the start of Ledge Route, the actual route is very easy, just high and a bit exposed.
At around 9:30 mark - Jeez I'd be terrified of doing that ...even on dry rocks I think I'd feel a jolt of fear at making the slightest mistake! You got the braves.
Now I understand how a climber fell from the Ledge Route recently and sadly died. This would be treacherous in Icy conditions. Never done it personally but it looks alot more precarious than the Carn Mor Dearg arete which I walked some years back.
Damon, thanks for posting these videos, they're great armchair mountaineering. I feel as if I've done the route too! Like the commentary & really glad you don't add music. What camera do you use & how/where do you mount it?
Thanks Damon , perfect timing. We're up that way in 3 weeks . Great vid / guide as usual mate . Did you walk up to the lake (on the Nevis walk ) then drop down towards the CIC hut or is it better to skirt round ? Atb - Austin
Cheers Austin. Yeah I went up to half way Lochain then dropped down following the track to CIC. I usually always do any TNF routes by starting at TNF car park at Torlundy, far easier and less exhausting. Oh and far quiter!😊
Reminds me of the weather I had doing the CMD route a few years ago. I guess that's pretty common. Not having any visible landmarks to follow it was a long blind faith solo scramble. This route would have been a bit harder to follow I think. Here's my video in case anyone's interested: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ODEe6fpPBbI.html
Hi. Is this route more exposed than the arete? I've done the tourist route before but I want to try something harder. I'm terrified by exposure so not sure what would be a good route to attempt to conquer my fear. Any suggestions?
I'd say Crib Goch is a bit harder because there are sections of just bare, rounded rock, though not as steep or as exposed as the ledge. Though as Damon kept pointing out you can avoid most of the edge. I've only done the Ledge in winter, would have liked to see getting to the start, there are a couple of options in winter to get out of No 5 gulley.
