Being 18 or 19 when this song came out. After a huge break up after 2 yrs of dating. I truly needed to hear these words. Life changing. Thank you Lee Roy.
True. There's something very calming about a lot of 90s and older country. I'd be willing to bet that a lot of the music on the radio today is part of what CAUSES road rage, lol.
"There's a lesson I've learned..if you live long enough you'll find the one who is looking for you ..". Thank Tony Arata for this song. ❤. (He wrote The Dance)
thank you, i never knew Tony wrote this as well. he also wrote “here i am” recorded by Patty Loveless. so that’s 3 of my all time favorite songs, written by him.
Again I hate to do this but the use of the term “underrated” is wrong here. Mr Parnell is a fine singer, songwriter, and guitarist. He has played with some of music’s best and greatest. You can look him up and see all the work he has done and all the awards he has received. He is not underrated, I say he is properly rated-Rated EXCELLENT.
A great song by a great country rock player. His slide work throughout the song is so subtle and when he gets to open up on the solo at the end he really tears it up. I love this guy.
Here is a live version of him with the whole ending solo. It simply takes you to a whole other place, level, and world. Just WOW!!! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-9LvkFvAqEWg.html
I have always adored this song, and finally I got to play a songwriter's night with the writer. It gave me a deeper understanding of how important an amazing song is to an "artists" career. Lee Roy killed this song, Tony told me that he sent in the roughest tape of this song, and then received Lee Roy's interpretation and was blown away.
(Verse 1] You said the only thing harder than sayin goodbye Was sayin hello after all this time When I ran into you with your new love in tow You said you're worried about me and you wanna know How am I getting by [Chorus] Thank you, I'm holdin' my own Don't you worry 'bout me no more It hurt me when you left me alone But there's two sides to every door And the life you left behind has led to lives I'd never known So thank you, I'm holdin' my own [Verse 2] Your new love walked on up while we said goodbye You took my hand and you caught my eye Told me there's a chance for another try You would love to hear from me some sweet time I guess you didn't understand [Repeat Chorus] [Bridge] There's a lesson I learned When the love stays true If you look long enough You'll find the one who's lookin' for you [Chorus] Right now I'm holdin' my own Don't you worry 'bout me no more It hurt me when you left me alone But there's two sides to every door And the life you left behind has led to lives I'd never known So thank you, I'm holdin' my own Thank you, I'm holdin' my own
This was one of my favorites songs back in the early 90's Heard some guy paying it in Nashville a couple weeks ago. He nailed it and I rediscovered it. Been playing ever since Incredible music and performance from LRP !
