I've had the same respect for your team over the years. You have had some great manager's and players. Don was a great manager it was a big shame that he didn't carry the same into the England set up but it's history now and we can't change that.

There's only one Don Revie - it sickens me that he doesn't get the credit he deserves outside of Leeds. RIP the Don!

Its because of producing the famous dirty leeds team and the several bribery cases.

Don was a great manager it was sad that his life was struck down with this horrible disease. You will always be remembered for being one of Leeds United greatest managers of all time. RIP The great Don Revie 💪👍.

I know it was City,i was there,along with the 7000 for Don and the 13000 for John Charles-Our average gate in 88-89 was upto around 19000 due to the feelgood factor from the year before when we almost got to wembley & promoted.The least we could of expected for was a double figure crowd bearing in mind even back then five quid in was peanuts.The feeling at the time amongst many of us was that this was a wasted chance for the people of leeds to show what he did and what he meant to our city. On lockdown in 2020 and watching all these fine managers from the past for the first time. Don seems highly underated nowadays compared to Shankly, Paisley, Ferguson etc, because of his time with England, but I have been extremely impressed with what he did for Leeds. He's right up there in the top 5 for me

You are entirely right .. football did their best to tarnish his achievements and airbrush him from history.. aĺl those managerial greats deserve their place at the top table and Dons seat amongst shouldn't be in doubt..

LUFC were my life as a kid in the late 60's & early 70's, Don WAS leeds, it's great to see him and some of the players i watched every week after so long, but still very sad. there's nothing worse than to see people with deteriorating diseases fade away slowly, and i include cancer, & dementia alongside MND. RIP.

Great manager, great players, great team. They were dominant and they really were that good. The problem was that they were dirty, and they didn't need to be. I think that's why people didn't like them. You then had the thing with Revie walking away fron the England team which further tarnished their legacy.

Leeds were great under Don. We kept coming 2nd a lot too. Runners up this runners up that. But hey great man molded what English clubs should do in Europe. Heck we invented the bloody game after all. Thank goodness I was born to see such a great man do his trade brilliant at club level. RIP uncle Don.

I don’t think Revie will ever get the credit he deserves for his achievements, either as a player or manager. I think there was a lot of what you would call ‘professional jealousy’, within the managerial ‘fraternity’, particularly towards other English managers.

I did wonder why such a low attendance? Man United fan here, but absolute respect for Revie, the teams he produced and tge football they played. Was it just a sign of the times? I know in the late 80s attendances were low

The club should organise another tribute match for the Don, I'm sure it'd sell out as the Chief's did a few years back. All money again to Motor Neurone research =) MOT

Why was that the case? I'm not sure I understand - I thought Leeds United loved Revie. Why did the fans stay away? I could understand if Clough had come back to Elland Road, which of course never happened, but Revie was revered during his time on the sidelines, no?

@@RoadCone411 Loads of people attended Don Revie's funeral. All of his old Leeds team did along with other footballing figures like Kevin Keegan, Terry Venables and even Alex Ferguson. I think they were talking about how the FA didnt send a representative
@chapleeds

No offence but when he walks on at the beginning its against Man City who he also played for and got an ovation from both sets this was also unanounced and im sure they were around 26,000, as for his charity game it reflects the era before the football boom time and im sure John Charles also didn't sell many but Radebe got a sell out crowd in recent times, 7000 turned up for a charity match which should be applauded and not scourned
@helltopo

England were far from great when Revie was in charge due to injuries to Gerry Francis, Kevin Beattie & Colin Bell. Had these men been fit it may had been different, though there was no shame in losing out to a powerful Italian side containing Zoff, Bettega, Causio & Gentile.
@chapleeds
@chapleeds 15 лет назад
yes point accepted and you are right, if the motor neurone charity did it again under the Revie name and in todays more accessable publicity and even at the 80's price of a fiver im sure it would be a sell out - one for the charity to think on !
