Howdy all. Just a quick video showing the cargo rack system on my Leer 100XR camper shell. This was factory installed by Leer when I purchased the shell. Uses the Thule cargo bars as shown. Feel free to ask any questions or comments.

The major roof rack manufacturers such as Thule, Yakima and Rocky Mounts have their cross bar accessories, such as baskets, ski holders, boat holders, bike racks, all designed to be cross bar agnostic, in that the accessory carrier will pretty much work with anybody's cross bar. Thus you can get an accessory carrier to work with Brand A automobile rack, Thule cross bar with a Yakima accessory, etc.... I have both Thule square bars as well as Yakima Core Bars and can use my Thule Circuit bike tray on either cross bar, ditto my Yakima Front Loader bike holder as well as my Thule Ascent box. This stuff now-a-days will work with anything.

I just ordered mine this week for my 2019 Tundra. Wish I had known about the cargo clips. This is my second Leer topper for my second Tundra. Just traded in my 2005 for the 2019. I had the same set up, except it had Yakima Bars. I save those as well as the attachments to mount onto the tracks of the new topper. Thanks for sharing! :-)

I like the cargo net idea to utilize the space and organize and be able to access quickly. Do you ever have a problem whacking your head on one of those cleats? Thanks for posting, I am going to borrow some ideas.

How does the podium base go into the actual track itself ? Do you remove the ends of the tracks , and slide the base all the way along the track ? or does it just drop in the Chanel ? Great video 👍🏻
@HillbillyMusings
@HillbillyMusings 4 месяца назад
I've since traded this truck on, but as I recall the podium had some sort of quick attachment to mounts that stayed in the slots. The mounts in the slots could be loosened and slid back and forth. However, it was installed at the dealer and honestly I never had any reason to take out the mounts. I would often remove the crossbars on a long trip for noise and mileage, but would leave the mounts in as they were very low profile. Thanks for watching!!

Do any of you know if there are any universal cross bars for this Thule track system. I had the track system put on my leer camper, but unsure what crossbars to get for it

I would call the guys at etrailer.com and ask them. They have seemed to be the most knowledgeable from what I've experience on the Thule systems.

Hi What is the distance between the two rails? What model are you using? I am looking for the rails for my camper Thx
@HillbillyMusings
@HillbillyMusings 6 месяцев назад
Not sure on the distance, traded this one in a while back. But I do know the rails that mounted into the tracks were adjustable for width so the spacing wouldn’t be critical as long as it was in the range. Thanks for watching!!

I just had these racks installed a few days ago. I noticed that there is a little play in where the cross bars mount to the track. Is there a way to tighten them down? Or is this normal? I'm about to put a 50 pound awning up there. Just wanted to make sure it was safe to do so
@HillbillyMusings

I've since traded off the Tundra that had these, but as I recall they were rock solid. No wiggle or play at all between the bars and the tracks. Thanks for watching!!

Hey brotha, good looking set up. I’m looking to do the same to mine. I’ve got the same shell 100xr but no roof rails/tracks. Can you measure how long your rails are if you get the chance please. My shell is on a short bed Tacoma. I’m not sure if yours is as well. Thanks for any help in advance.

Would you trust a rooftop tent on this rack?
@HillbillyMusings
@HillbillyMusings 3 года назад
I’d call Leer to confirm, but I believe they put a max weight rating of 200 lbs on the rack. However, in some forums I’m in, others have mounted tents it claiming the static weight rating (when vehicle isn’t moving) is much higher. I’m not sure if Leer officially backs this up though or not.

How long was the installation process for the racks? Also really like the net idea on the top of the inside, how and what did you need to install that?
@HillbillyMusings
@HillbillyMusings 2 года назад
The shell came from Leer with the racks already installed, so not sure on that. The cargo net on the inside was super easy, IF you have the tie down hooks installed from Leer. I paid a little extra to have them add the interior hooks, a total of 8 hooks I think was $80 add on? The cargo net is one of those ones made from bungee strap material and I just basically stretched it over the hooks. Thanks for watching!

@bofire20
@bofire20 4 года назад
I love it. It’s composite so it’s fairly light compared to the other systems out there. I can store most of my gear in the drawers and have the top to sleep on. I have a 4” foam mattress cut to fit. I also have a hard shell rooftop tent on the top rack. Good option for when the wife and kids wanna go for a short weekend trip.

@HillbillyMusings 4 года назад
Howdy, I would go to Etrailer website and see what you can find. They seem to have the best selection with pictures of the Thule components that I can find. I "think" the slotted tracks on the camper shells use the Thule 'Tracker' System as I recall. If you can't make any progress with the Etrailer site, I would call the closest Leer shell dealer and explain what you're looking for. Even better would be to just drive to a dealer and I'm sure they can hook you up.

David: FYI, I also just went out and checked on mine, and nowhere on the towers does it have an actual Thule part number that I can find. I did see some numbers on the inside: 853-5115, PA+35 on the plastic casing and then: 8535122, PP+30 on the metal spring tab on the inside. But a quick Google didn't find anything on those numbers in reference to Thule, so they may just be mold cavity numbers or something similar.

@HillbillyMusings
@HillbillyMusings 3 года назад
They call those the podiums or pillars. I’d reach out to eTrailer, they carry a good line and can help. Call them if you can, they are very knowledgeable.
@masworksdesignbuild
@masworksdesignbuild 3 года назад
I believe what is shown in the video are the discontinued "tracker ii" feet; you'll need to know which tk# is appropriate for your setup. "Podium" is the new system. The tracker ii system can be quickly and easily removed by simple unlocking and lifting while the podium system required a few allen bolts to be removed.

@HillbillyMusings
@HillbillyMusings 3 года назад
Hi Kevin, the cargo clips were attached by Leer from the factory, it's an option you can select when ordering. The cargo net made of bungie cords I got years ago at ....I think maybe Harbor Freight? but Amazon has a good selection of them. Thanks for watching!

hi, I am looking at getting similar cap and the Thule rail system just like your... and how much did you get it installed? thanks
@HillbillyMusings
@HillbillyMusings 4 года назад
Good morning WestCoast. As I recall, I think the total cost on the cap installed and out the door was right around $2900.00 or so, including the rails and crossbars. The Thule rails and bars were about $450 or $500 of that total price, so if I didn't get the roof rack system it would have ran around $2400 or $2500 total for just the cap.

@HillbillyMusings

Mine came preinstalled from Leer. However you can buy all the parts and put them on yourself I believe. The podiums that hold the bars are Thule 430 Tracker II podiums, they sit on the Thule TK1 kit that mounts into the slotted tracks. I'm not sure of the slotted track part numbers, but they are just surface mounted on the shell then of course you have the standard square bars. eTrailer is the best place I've found for them. Thanks for watching!

@HillbillyMusings
@HillbillyMusings 3 года назад
I'll have to measure them when the rain stops and let you know! These are the ones that are as wide as the truck though, they aren't the ones that hang out over the edge. They have several lengths available in the classic square bars from 108 CM to 150 CM.
