Just a quick video troubleshooting the interior dome light on my Leer 100XR camper shell. Turns out it was just a loose connection of some sort. Like and subscribe!

Great video. I chose to wire my interior lights to my 4 flat on my trucks wiring harness so it only works when my marker\headlights are on. I haven’t used a 4 flat in decades so it’s perfect. The reason I recommend this is because if you accidentally leave your topper lights on, your truck will automatically shut them off. If you plan to camp in the back of your camper just get a cheap head lamp or something else to light it up. I’d rather not have to worry about a dead battery and stranded. Your 4 flat is also already fused protected into your trucks fuse box.

Great video and very helpful for trouble shooting. I believe the abbreviation next to "dome" on the panel is for Center High Mount Stop Light. (CHMSL).

Great troubleshooting going in depth is key because yeah you might have no blown fuse but there could be a wire break or like this bad connection and you wouldn’t know till you went threw it lol love the vids keep up the great content. Looking forward to them

Any particular netting that you used for the top of your cap there? And what did you use to hold it up there? My screws are very short and it’s gonna be hard to put some type of clip with bolt or there
@HillbillyMusings
@HillbillyMusings 3 года назад
I used some generic bungee cord netting, I think I got it from Amazon? it's stretched over the cargo hooks that were installed by Leer at the factory in the top of the shell. Thanks for watching!

Hello, I have the same fuse panel as you on my new topper I just bought could you do a video on where those 3 wires on the bottom plug wire into? I figure one is a hot wire and one is a ground, but what is the third wire for?

I would really appreciate it if you would show how your rack is bolted through the roof of the Leer. Is it bolted through the honeycomb reinforcement board or just the fiberglass of the roof to the side of the reinforcement? I like the net idea on the roof so some video time on fastening it to the roof and discussion of what works being stored up there in the net and if you would do it again (was it worth it?). Sorry, I am a very detailed visual person. I enjoy your videos so keep up the good work!

I'll try to get a video shot for you showing the details of how it's mounted. They were factory installed at Leer when I ordered the shell.

is there any chance you can help me out? I have the same fuse box as yours as well as the same dome light in the shell. I hot wiring from the chassis (bottom adapter on the fuse box in the shell) straight to my battery, there isn’t a fuse by the battery like yours has. but it works, it powers my led light but overnight it kills my battery and requires a jump to turn on. clearly there is a current being pulled all 24/7 killing my battery but I just don’t understand how i’d fix this.

Did you install that netting on the top? i would like to install 2 holders up there for shotguns when i go hunting with my bird dogs
@HillbillyMusings
@HillbillyMusings 3 года назад
Hi Jason, yes I did install the netting. It stretches over the factory installed cargo hooks that I had put in when they built the shell.

I would like to wire in some additional lights to my camper. I wonder how difficult that would be
@HillbillyMusings
@HillbillyMusings 4 года назад
Shouldn't be too awful hard if you have the direct wired interior light like mine. You could probably just splice into that wire or the block itself that I show in the video. Personally, I just use battery operated or solar rechargeable lights in mine for convenience. Plus I don't have to worry about leaving a light on and running my truck battery down.

Great video! You're about the only person with a leer cap with leer fuse box that I can relate with on the tube! Lol. Thanks for the content. I just bought a used camper and it didn't come with the 6 prong harness. I recently bought the harness and am wondering how you have it connected? There's 3 cables so black is ground obviously. Is one of the red going to brake light and the other going straight to battery? My cap also has keyless entry so I'm assuming that fuse box makes it all work some how.

I wish I could help, but sadly traded off the Tundra last year :( Thanks for watching!!

Did you figure it out? I bought a used one as well. My other shell just had ground and red to the break
@eddievarh3452
@eddievarh3452 Год назад
@wandering daze I forget which one to tap into for the brake light switch but I was able to get it to work. I tried all the ones that I found on the forums but they didn't work. Ended up just tapping one by one and finally found the one that will turn the brake light on the shell when you brake. However, it doesn't dim at night like taillights. Installed it in the cold so just happy they're working. I'm probably going to try and get it working properly once it warms up since the auto lock doesn't work with the lock button.

I realize it has been over a year, but you might want to check the wires where the liner is is roughed up, you may have damaged them there by accident. You did touch them during the video which may have closed an open in the circuit.

You wouldn't happen to have any plans for the bed you have in there?
@HillbillyMusings
@HillbillyMusings 4 года назад
Sorry Jimmy I sure don't...but it's really simple. Just a sheet of 3/4" plywood that measures around 32" x 62" or so, there are six 2x4 legs that are cut high enough to allow the blue plastic boxes to slide under, which also allows the bed to clear the wheel well. The legs are on all four corners, then one in the middle on the edge towards the middle of the truck bed and one in the center of bed platform, as close to wheel well as I could get it. I'm 238 lbs on a good day and it holds me up fine, with the carpet bedliner it doesn't slide or shift or anything. I was going to anchor it to one of the corner tie downs but found it wasn't needed.
