Learn how to wire a 2006 F150 truck topper or cap. I bought a new truck camper topper for my 2006 F150 and in this video, I'm going to show you how to wire the third brake light, and the dome light.
I wired the topper dome light so I never have to worry about it draining my battery.

You're the man! Inherited a 2007 F150 with a cap that was never wired. Found the extra green wire in the wiring diagram but they don't tell you where it actually ends. This video solved it for me!

I know I'm a bit late to the party, but I just got my canopy for my Mitsubishi. The taillight harness has 3 plugs - reversing, indicator and brake/taillight. If you patch it into the taillight harness, you can make it turn on only when you apply the brake or have the taillights on. That's my project for this Tuesday. This video was helpful anyway for the wiring techniques.

I’ve got a 2004 F150, extended cab with a Leer cap. On my Model, I’ve found that the GREEN (dome light) wire under the door sill plate you’ve identified is NOT the wire I needed, for the 10 minute delay dome circuit. The wire is actually a solid black wire with a blue stripe. Other than that, your video is very comprehensive.

In my 2018 F150, the drivers side brake light has 3 wires going to it. One of them is a green wire. I was able to tap into that green wire to power my 3rd brake light

I tried to wire in my canopy's third brake light. This video saved me a lot of time. However my third brake light isn't lighting up. Just 2 wire from the canopy third brake. Wired one to the green wire (the one located underneath the driver side from the factory) and grounded the other. Any suggestions?

@@jgonzalejg87 did u check to make sure the existing wire on the truck was working? If so, check continuity and the bulbs in ur brake light. Just getting ready to wire mine…

@@1Corinthians15.1-4 yes! The existing light was burnt out somehow. Ran a few tests, power was getting to it but it just wasn't lighting up. I was able to find an aftermarket led that fit in the space over the top. 👍

I have an 07 F150. I wired the dome light like you said. I have to open the door to get power to the topper, but when the dome light goes out the topper light is still energized. But once i turn it off I have to open the truck door again to re-energize the topper light.

Is there a fuse on the factory truck cap brake wire pulled from the bottom side? I tried to connect the truck cap to it and it didn't work for me. :(

If you have the ability, cut the wires in the bed area, then put a plug on the wires like he used in video. You will be able to put the cap on and off easily after that. If you can’t do yourself, take to a shop ( I’d show up with the plugs) and have them do the plug install.

Love the video. I have a 07 f150 extended cab. Did the same thing with the dome light light green wire with orange strip but it's not the dome light. It's constant power. Does anyone no what wire it is. Thanks.

One think you could do is pull down your dome light and take a look at the wire feeding power there. That will confirm what wire feeds the dome light and which one to tap into.

This has already become too complicated for me. I'm thinking of just glueing a series of mirrors to reflect the stock 3rd brake light. Lol

Didn't work for me. I have an 07 f150 and connected the 3rd brake light to the one underneath that you said was the brake wire and didn't work. I know the actual light works because I tested it with the jump pack.

Doesn't that just mean you have to open one of your doors to get the light to turn on in the canopy? That's kind of ridiculous

Scotch locks are the devil ! Never never never use them in a mobile environment. They actually cut strands of the wire. Strip the insulation back on the dome wire, solder the extension wire, then liquid electrical tape, then wrap in regular electrical tape.
