Legacy of Kain: Defiance - 30 - Moebius gloats over his triumph 

Vorador and Janos were always straight with Raziel, though Vorador had his reservations about him, Janos gave his life to protect him. Kain was somewhat honest.

@@combatmaster I wonder why Kain didn't tell him everything about the Vampire Prophecy? Is it the fact that Raziel wouldn't believe him, or doesn't want to mislead him into another death from the Soul Reaver?

Kain never lies in the lore ever. He operates on a need to know basis with Raziel yeah. But he doesn't lie. If something happens to contradict what he says then it's from him not knowing all the information, not lies.

@@CamSiv996 If Kain told Raziel the truth from the beginning there are only 2 outcomes of that. 1. Raziel believes Kain and realizes he is the sword, the edge of the coin and the soul of the reaver all at once. They would combine forces and kill moebius fulfilling the plot of blood omen 1 and try to revive Janos to find out how to save the pillars and restore the Reaver at the same time. Only to find out that they did exactly what the hlyden wanted in the first place setting in motion the events of blood omen 2. Even tough Raziel does this of his own free wil and thinks only moebius manipulated him it was in reality kain who outwitted them all. Moebius, Raziel and the elder god. Thats why at the end of Soul Reaver 2 the coinflip appears and Kain realizes the events of Blood Omen 2 can never happen therefore Janos must stay dead. Basically they would end up at the same spot they did in the story. 2. Raziel doesn't believe Kain nor Moebius and goes to find his own answers. Revives Janos and protects Vorador and kills Moebius in the process. Shifting the timeline in which kain never killed Moebius and all hell breaks lose cause without the extiction of the Vampires the Pillars stay intact but the events of Blood Omen 1 get distorted and Kain probably never fights Moebius nor Mortanius and if the worst happens Raziel ceases to exist by his own hands as it was the killing of janos who made him kill his own bretheren and ultimately himself in human form in the past. Basically if Raziel doesn't get manipulated by both sides and choose what he wants to believe for himself being the only creature with true free will and a true choice the entire thing could fall apart. While Moebius wants to manipulate Raziel to kill Kain and get rid of him after that Kain is the one who saw all this happening already once or many times. Therefore he only gives pieces of information that make Raziel believe he is played by both sides therefore creating the need or wish inside Raziel to either play both sides at the same time and follow his own goals or use both sides to his advantage making him suspicious of both Kain and Moebius intentions and that is exactly what Kain is hoping to accomplish. By playing the same game as Moebius but only hand Raziel information without and strings attached to it Raziel starts questioning what Kain is up to assuming he only gives him certain informations to influence him as Moebius does. Once Raziel realizes this he starts to seek the truth for himself as he realizes that he can't trust either side. Raziel becomes the coinflip. Who can play right into the hands of Kain or Moebius. While Moebius wants the coin to land on his side and he assumes Kain wants the same for himself it is actually Raziels free choice what to do. In hoping Raziel would choose neither sides and create a third path that neither Kain nor Moebius can influence the coin lands on the edge and creates a paradox in which the Reaver who just took the Soul of Raziel in human form tries to absorb the created twin which is raziel. As two souls could not exist in the same time and the same space reality starts to bend around them and therefore the coin landed on the edge. As long as the reaver is in the process of absorbing its own soul while also maintaining Raziels health the timelines crumble away and give paths to new possible or impossible ones. Bot Kain nor Moebius can influence any of that and that is the reason Kain waits a bit before pulling the reaver out of Raziel. As he realizes that the events they created will lead to the revival of Janos and the destruction of the pillars he realizes that all three of them got outwitted by the hylden. While kain searched for a way to prevent the pillars from collapsing he ultimately provided the very thing that will destroy them. Hence the events of Blood omen 2 start rising in his mind and he remembers what happend therefore trying in defiance to find a new way for a coinflip. But this time it is Raziel who finds out how to create a way or a path that both outwits the elder god and the hylden at the same time. With him becoming the sword once more and fusing with every guardian soul who ever guarded the pillars he unites them inside the reaver and fulfills the prophecy that the hero of the vampires will restore the balance of the pillars and ensure they stay in vampire hands. The only flaw in this was the fact that Raziel didn't hear the warnings of Kain and revived Janos which set the events of Blood omen 2 in motion. Janos is possed by the hylden the moment the pillars collapse. And they collapse or start to collapse the moment Kain is presumably killed and sent to the demon realm in which the hylden are imprisoned. He gets revived when Raziel forges the astral soul reaver inside his astral body with the help of ariel and every soul who guarded the pillars in the past are called to the forge. Including Kain. While defiance plays before Blood Omen 2. And Janos is possesed he soon is imprisoned to fuel a machine for the hylden while the hylden overlord gets his original body back. BUT while on this timeline a much younger Kain confronts them and wins in the end. The Future Kain holds something in his hands that he never had before. The new knowledge of who his true enemy was. The elder god and the hylden all together who would rule and benefit from the collapse of the pillars. The restored reaver is what leads to the events of Soul Reaver 1 the first game in which Kain can ressurect the former bodies of the seraphane warriors including Raziel. But what he didnt knew back then was the existance of the elder god and his part in this game. Thats why kain at the end of defiance states that Raziel gave him something. Hope. Sadly we never got a last game but if we ever do we need Amy Henning to write this masterpiece to the end. She literally wrote this entire thing and without her it is doomed to fail. Richard Doyle is a Criminally underrated Voice Actor. He's also great as Senator Kelly in Wolverine and The X Men and Big Boss in Metal Gear Solid 4.

​​@@eamonndeane587 He was amazing and he deserves more recognition for his talent and range. It's an old game now but I absolutely loved Doyle's voice acting in Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem. He voiced the protagonist turned villain Pious Augustus in various forms (human > liche, also disguised via shape-shifting as three different people), Ulyaoth and the Defeated General. He delivered superb range in that game as each character's voice (or else incarnation when playing the same character) sounded distinct and he was excellent at conveying emotion in the various roles played. To me human (pre-transformation into the liche) Pious sounds calm, thoughtful authoritative yet approachable. After he's forcibly turned into the liche his voice sounds recognisable yet takes on a harsh, impatient menacing and domineering quality - it sells how badly he was corrupted and how he's discarded most of his humanity. It's a shame Doyle looks to no longer do voice acting because he was fantastic - however I believe he's still involved with theatre roles (IIRC an interview with him indicated theatrical work has always been his preference).

@@BrianWalters-ei7sd Man, Richard Doyle nailed it when he mockingly called Raziel "faithful servant" for his supposedly killing Kain, just to put that last dagger into him on top of mocking him about his vampire hunters getting Vorador too.

LOL, yo this is literally what I got from this scene, pointing out that Kain is dead many times so you won't forget.

Considering how much effort this required and how much he hated Kain, it's perfectly in Moebius' character to really enjoy the fruits of his labor. Culmination of his great work, so to speak.

@@masterexploder9668 Yep, only for it to blow up in his face when Kain survives because of his nature as the Scion of Balance, and Raziel igniting the Spirit Forge at the Vampire citadel to draw Kain there, so Raziel, after purifying the Wraith Reaver, could fulfill his TRUE destiny as redeemer and destroyer, as both the vampire's champion, redeeming Kain, and as the Hylden's, by setting into motion the means for Kain to fulfill his true destiny, by destroying the Elder God, and restoring the Pillars to vampire guardianship to seal the Hylden away forever, and thus freeing Nsogoth to its own future, even if he couldn't give it back its innocence for what he had done.

More like Kain KNEW what his fate would be, and part of it was to kill Raziel, since originally, he was "destined" to die at Raziel's hands in the chapel where William the Just's body was laid to rest, but Raziel's free will allowed him to stop that fate, creating a new divergence and timeline to where Kain lived, and thus saved Raziel from being consumed by the Soul Reaver when it was meant to be his time after he massacred his human self and his brothers when they were in the Serafan brotherhood, which created the events here, and the Hylden Lord's actions in Blood Omen 2 after he possesses Janos' body in the end of this game.

kain studied the myriad of time lines looking at so many possiblities all the ended with his death at the hand of raziel however the one he witnessed that gave the best chance to right the timeline back to its true path was to make raziel into the form he took thats why only AFTER raziel displayed his wings did kain throw him into the abyss it was his one and only chance his single chance of a winning bet against all other fates. he gambled everything on it
