Everything about this franchise was incredible. The vampire lore, the Gothic tone, tons of H.P. Lovecraft inspiration, everything. Such an underrated classic that needs to see the light of day again.
I don't agree with the way you describe the series. The very term "Lovecraft" or "Lovecraftian" is an insult that discredits the possibility of these elements and ideas being original in their own right, and immediately implies that works in a similar vein are a direct or indirect copy of the ideas of a single man (as if nobody ever thought of supernatural influence before...literally thousands of years ago, mind you...). Not only that, but they will immediately be compared to the "original", which warps perspective and perception of the experience quite badly. In fact, I would go so far as to say Crystal Dynamics elevated 'vampirehood' out of the unoriginal, platitudinous and driven-though-the-mud trope it always has been, and their work remains unique to this day. These games were made with the idea of making something original, something genuine. Sure, the end result can be put into a genre "box", but I don't believe the studio set out for development by picking a "box" in which to place their game. This is more of a problem with modern gaming: Developers nowadays start their development ideas with "Let's make a military FPS! / Let's make a third person shooter with building elements! / Hey! Let's make a roguelike game with a Greek mythology spin on it!". As such, they immediately lose their originality, because they are - self-admittedly - mere 'varieties' of an already established and globally recognized format.

im replaying the whole series i replayed sl and sl2 now i play this one and i also play at the same time a fan made graphic remake of blood omen 1,what a great franchise someone needs to revive it and give it the glory it deserves
12 years ago and im still hoping there will be something off the lore, although everything that's come out or set to had been shot down or canceled sadly
Had a obsession with the first game,finished it over 20 times, liked the voice acting in that game, played defiance a couple of times on the xbox, nice game

The story has, as Kain would say it, come full circle. The story has no beginning and no end :) But I really wish for more Kain and Raziel, although it's difficult to put Raziel back in the story.
i would love there to be at least one more game, to show what exactly kain is going to do with the hope that raziel left him also as much as i FUCKING LOVE raziel, i don't think he should be "freed" from the reaver. he willingly entered the sword in the end, to purify it (and kain) and help kain save nosgoth. it would be cool tho if he could still communicate with kain from within the sword, with whispers or something. but yeah man it'd be so nice to see these two one more time, ESPECIALLY working together ;A;
There was a new game being developed, Legacy of Kain: Dead Sun. It was canceled before ever being announced, but much footage of it has leaked. It looks like it was going to be amazing too. Look up some videos about it, and pepare to be angry that they refused to give us what looked like a seriously awesome game. At this point I would almost accept anything that would finish the story. Even if it was a graphic novel or an animated film. Stuck on a cliffhanger since 2003. It's maddening.

Kain, with the help of Raziel, succeeded in purifying the Soul Reaver, allowing him to see the Elder God and fundamentally altering the course of history. Kain became the true Scion of Balance he was destined to be, the true savior of Nosgoth. He stands at the point to fulfill his destiny, and might have ended up gaining true free will and escaping the wheel of fate just as Raziel did before him. They need to finish Kain's tale. We've been stuck on a cliffhanger since 2003.
@@ubermenschmexa Those versions are ridden with bugs and poor optimization, you need to go out of your way to install patches or to use a virtual machine to make some games run smoothly. I'll give you this Defiance runs, plays and looks smooth even on a machine with W10 where all the other games crash.
