I just picked up a Howa mini action .223 with the Legacy magazines. If you look at the bottom plate you'll see two locking tabs where the follower restrictor has been inserted. Drill them out with a Dremel or similar, and heat the assembly with a heat gun to soften the adhesive. You can now lift the restrictor off the baseplate. My Howa mags now hold...9 rounds. Would have liked 10,, but this I can live with.
@314299
@314299 3 года назад
My 5 rounder had a limiter in it that I removed with just a pair of needle nose pliers. I seem to recall there were two tabs that could be squeezed and then the limiter removed. The Howa's are nice rifles, much like an improved Remington 700. It will be interesting to see how well yours shoots. The only thing I have against them are the Hogue stocks they generally come with.

My story, Howa 1500 308, Howa 1500 243. Bought two of these Ammo Boost kits, one for each rifle. 308 floorplate cracked at back action screw before recommended torque. Sent it back. Took 2 weeks to get another. Went whitetail hunting November 2019, NE WA. Magazine cracked being dropped in SNOW at 28 degrees F. Floorplate cracked at both action screws. Had to drive 8 hours round trip to get my original blind mag floorplate. 243 kit went in without cracking...until...went yote hunting Jan 2020 Central WA, 34 degrees F. Floorplate cracked at front action screw and back screw, first shot at a yote, resting rifle on wooden fence post. The kits are crap. Look around, dozens of stories. Put an Oryx chassis on the 308, and CDI bottom metal on the 243. Both of the Legacy Sports kits cost me a combined 14 hours of lost hunting time, and around $200 in fuel, not to mention the cost of both kits and an extra mag. So easily a $600 lesson, which is about what I spent on the Oryx chassis and CDI bottom metal. Caveat emptor, ymmv.

That's an unfortunate experience, but it does not surprise me. I consider this set-up to be a "go to the range in decent weather" setup. Using it like that I have not had any issues but it's good to hear how it performed in adverse conditions.

I forgot to mention that Legacy refunded my money after that. Good company, great products, for the most part.

I've got an extended floorplate by "Tactical Components LLC". I just checked, and it seems they are discontinued. At any rate, this allows me to fit 7+1 in the mag. That's 8 shots. It also just sticks down a bit, so I can still carry the rifle with no problem. Same feed characteristics and I'm overall happy with it. I don't like the single-feed mags as you cannot easily top off the mag. Very rarely am I running dry. I shoot once or maybe twice then top it off.
@314299
@314299 4 года назад
The prime motivation for getting a detachable mag for this rifle was a shooting drill me and my shooting buddy's do, it involves ten random one second "snap" exposures of a target. With a factory mag one it was shot dry one was reduced to single loading. The guys with ten round mags always had a bit of an edge in that they could concentrate on finding the next target and not on single loading the rifle.

Got a "deal" on a 783, not a bad rifle but that four round mag is nuisance on range. I don't do combat style shooting (and hope I don't have occasion to do so) but a 10-round conversion would be nice. I watched and read the comments below - good thing because this conversion won't work for me. Your vid saved me a couple hundred bucks so thanks.
@314299
@314299 3 года назад
The 783 is a suprisingly good rifle, a buddy has one and he shoots it a lot and it's very accurate. I'm not sure if anyone makes ten shot mags for the 783. I did a quick internet search and could not find any, which surprises me a bit.
@haroldwilkes6608

@@314299 Thanks. I did some more research on it, Legacy Sports sells 10-round mags ($46) that apparently don't need a conversion kit since mine already has a detachable mag. The open end of the mag is the same with a sort of rim around the mag at the same point as the 5-round has when fully inserted. The v-notch retainers is in the same spot as on the 5-round mag. I'll be calling tomorrow for info, will get back to you.

Sounds like the mag is not sitting high enough in relation to the receiver. This could be caused by the whole trigger guard unit not going far enough into the stock. Its hard finding a lot of info on these... i dont even have the gun yet (tomorrow) and have ordered the magpul stock and magazine kit for it. Problem is the .223 caliber. Magpul doesnt make (its coming) a .223 magazine to work with their own kits, cause it uses an AICS type magazine. There is another kit online for $129 that converts the Remington trigger guard to use actual AR magazines, but its hard to “GUESS” if its compatible with the magpul stock too. I guess the only way to know is to order it and try. Expensive gamble..

Are you using reloads or factory ammo? These mags accept shorter overall length rounds than the original factory mag, so if you are using reloads and they are slightly long they may be interfering with the travel of the follower. If that is not the issue ammo I would contact the manufacturer to see what they can do for you, sounds like you got a weak spring.
