@@lucy_9702 Literally! The raw emotion that comes from, the pact of having to question if you were really good at your career or if you just got by through pretty privilege, this whole musical was a masterpiece, but this song just tales the cake ❤❤❤
Monika Bauer my friend Kaitlyn has this as her duet in our showcase and she's brunette, and she sings this so beautifully especially " some girls were just meant to smile"
I first heard him in the soundtrack for this and I was like “damn. Something about this mans voice. Sounds so. So. Something” and then I saw the proshot and went “MARVIN!!?!?”
I love that this is literally the song that shows like the ENTIRE musical style that the two composers would end up going with for like the whole of Heathers later on
This shit is so legit. You get kissed by a teacher, someone you respect. Then your told that you were only there because your pretty, which you can’t help. Finally you find out that your ex and your enemy saw. I’d be pretty broken as well.
The line that really gets me right in my feels is Emmett's, "If you can hear, can I just say how much I want you to stay..." He sounds so sad she's leaving!!! Oh Emmett, my beloved.
Its been years since ghis musical, and I just got another subtle moment, another notch against Warner. He knew Elle better than Vivian, they were together for X amount of years, and when they saw her assault, he instantly went and assumed she was doing it to get ahed, instead of knowing she wouldn't do that.
Imagine it was like Elle: “just let me be...legally...Blonde” That one guy: “Bravo!” The audience: 👏👏👏👏👏 Then Elle would be like: “bAcK tO tHe SuN bAcK tO tHe ShOrE bAcK tO wHaT I wAs bEfOrE”
Actually it was right. "We'll drop the top and just drive" is the right line. She is talking about her convertible car. "dropping the top" is what is said when the cover on the convertible is down. She is talking about just dropping the top and just drive away with her friends, like she used too.
I love this song and Emmet is sweet and all but the girl just said she's leaving because some guy hit on her and then you tell her to stay because of love. I'm sorry dude but the male species currently sucks right now so no I would not like to stay for love.
Dini Din Yeah but you see that's why I like that she stayed because she wanted to prove to everyone that she is smarter than they took her for. She got into to the whole Harvard mess because she was in love with a jerk who didn't see her potential. Even though this guy is a lot sweeter, she needed a better reason to stay than love this time. I guess the main reason I'm a bit irritated is that she confesses that the professor had just hit on her and he acts concerned for a second and then he finds out she's going to leave because of it so he immediately switches gears and asks her to stay because he loves her. A boyfriend just isn't what she needed at the moment. (And don't get me wrong this is my favorite song in the whole musical and I love this part so much but I don't know I just think that the sudden shift to love was kind of awkward)
JAM Esteban pretty emmett's verse is about love was more an aside. He was singing to himself, not through the door to Elle. And Emmett definitely sees Elle's potential, which is why he doesn't want her to just throw it all out the window because Callahan decided to be a perv. While, yes, he wants her to stay because he love her, he also wants her to stay because she has found her niche and he realizes that. And this is my favorite song too :)
Well in the movie ver. Emmitt says that she should stay because 'she's trying to be who she is' when she says that she is trying to be a something she wasn't. I think that Emmitt's point with him loving her is valid because he did fall in love with her when he stayed up late with her over all the holidays and whatnot studying and he watched how hard she worked to get to where she is now. And he wants her to stay becaue he knows that she'll be devastated if she throws it all away. Also I think that it's sweet that he wants her to stay because he hasn't confessed his love to her yet and law is basically the only reason she'd spend time with him. Well, he feels like that's the only reason.
Also Emmett was about to confess to her before she told him that the guy hit on her. And when she said she was going to leave, he didn't want her to go because he loves her. He's not asking her to love him. He's saying he wants her to stay also because he is so truly and deeply in love with her that despite the fact that he knows that his love may not mean much, especially right now, he wants her to know that he loves her and that he doesn't want her to leave. Also it is so soul crushing and heartbreaking that Emmett's not confident enough that his love will make her want to stay but he's trying so desperately with all of the love in his heart. I mean, taking that into account and his rough past, Elle kind of softened his heart and it was almost a sign that Emmett doesn't have to be so tough on himself anymore and that he can take the time to love someone else. And that he can love himself by giving himself a break and doing what he wants to do instead of concentrating so hard on climbing up the career ladder and providing for his mum. I CRY.
