Alex Gaumond and Sheridan Smith sing Legally Blonde. If you like this video please vote for Legally Blonde (The owner of this youtube channel) in the Simple star competition - bit.ly/905nhQ Thank you Snaps
In the Broadway version, Emmiett's love for Elle is kept to himself, but in the west end version, he confesses his love, it's nice seeing the two different versions and how each production incorporates there own ideas of how the scene is portrayed.
Both LBB and Sheridan did amazing jobs and GREAT Elles. I cried a lot more for LBB's version but I don't know. Both of them are equally amazing and have their own way of portraying Elle. However, I do prefer the door in the American version. Confessing to Elle just seemed... wrong for me.
The idea here is that he is telling her and she is hearing it but she has already made her mind up, it's a way of making her decision harder and more emotional. I prefer it this way and it makes more sense this way to me but that's just a matter of opinion. :)
That makes sense. The line "the timing's bad, I know" doesn't necessarily work with the Broadway version, since he's not actually telling her. In this context, his whole part of the song fits a lot better. I didn't think I would like this version because I didn't like the idea of her knowing how he felt but still leaving. But after watching this, I think it is way more powerful and emotional than the Broadway version.
Everyone I know thinks I am mad but I love the name Emmett. I love this clip. I think Sheridan is epic. She is extremely talented. So funny and has such a kick ass voice. Elle was perfect for her.
I've seen Sheridan, Susan and Carley as Elle but Sheridan is by FAR the BEST. I think this is one of her best songs, she sings it so beautifully and with so much emotion :') There are no words to describe my love for her, she blows my mind! I LOVE Alex as well, he is great, Lee is good, but no competition. Sheridan & Alex FTW!
I saw the Australian cast late last year which was modelled off of the UK production rather then the US one, I was only familiar with the version of this song when they sing through the door so when Emmett confessed his love for Elle right there in front of her my mouth dropped, this interpretation of the song... I HATE IT because it's just to good, to raw, I love it!
The Broadway was produced first but West end uses the original script, producers changed the Broadway script last minute so the Legally Blond on Broadway isn't technically the original one
duncan cannot act, sheridan has the most beautiful voice, and alex, dear god how much i love alex. when i went to watch this, this scene had me in floods, and i just felt like dying, it was AWESOME!
I am on a total Alex high after seeing him on Superstar...and getting on my high horse that he should win despite minimal airtime! I might just have to make do with these videos!
Listen I know Laura and Christian are the OGs and we love them but.... I actually slightly prefer the way Sheridan and Alex interpret the roles and their relationship tbh. Something about it just speaks to me. And I vastly prefer this version of the number, instead of the original with the closed door, too.
I admire that each production uses its own stage directions. This production it seems that are nearby Callahan's office or the courtroom. In the Broadway version Elle and Emmett sing between the door of the hallway and Elle's room. I wonder what the book gives for a stage direction. Does anyone know?
I can't believe Alex has left! :'( He's so amazing and such a lovely person (I have met him, I not jsut saying it! :P) I saw Lee Mead at West End Live and he wasn't very good, so it's going to fall apart without Alex :(
Wow. Just wow. I've watched LBB version of this song so many times and I love it. But Sheridan's just moved me to tears. LBB never did that for me. Wow.
@sushirocker234 aww i knw same ! i saw her on saturday 6.11.10 n i cried n i actually met her after n sed she made me cry n she was like awww bless ya hahah :L shes just great isn't she ? :D x
Beautiful voice, I LOVE IT. I think she needs to work on her head voice a bit, too much of a belter. Love these orchestrations, though. Her accent isn't irritating to me, she sounds a bit country on those R's. But it's good. I like her.
I love LBB and she still will be the best Elle Woods in my mind, but I liked Sheridan's version of this song better. The intense emotion in this was stunning! But it may be just how this was staged. Also, I think LBB and being known for her outrageous facial expressions, it's just hard to figure out if she is over-exaggerating or really upset. Sheridan didn't have that reputation, but still definitely better.
pinklover9100 because the play was set in the US. Just like in Matilda on broadway all of the American actors/actresses had to speak with British accents because that play is set in London.
I agree, I think LBB was far more suited to play Elle, but Sheridan's performance of this song was the best of all actors who have played this role by far.
It's hard for English people to try sing songs that don't mold around our accents and seen as this song was made for an american to sing it's not going to sound the best
