For the issue regarding the 8 directions when using the analog stick on Citra, you need to use the setting "set analong stick" that way it'll allow you to use the full 360 range of movement. Otherwise, you'll get exactly what you did, the clunky weird feeling and clearly visible restriction to a set 8 directions. Hope that helps and this was a great video!

Great tip, thank you so much!
@venny1689
@venny1689 2 года назад
I wanna add to this because when setting up the analog stick you might also find yourself moving very slowly, as if the controller is not picking up the entire range of the joystick. While I'm not sure what causes this, if you open citra through adding it to steam, it gets resolved and it becomes a surprisingly smooth experience.

I got my N64 controller for the Switch yesterday, and immediately jumped in to this game. It took a bit for me to get used to that controller again, but it feels exactly like I remember from nearly 25 years ago. I'm really satisfied with this version. I wish the N64 NSO games had a CRT filter, but I suppose it might be a little processor intensive for the old Switch hardware. Makes me wonder if using an emulator on PC with the NSO N64 controller might be the way to go, can have all the filters, and all the games.

My first time playing this game was on the 3DS remake, it was great fun. I’m replaying it rn on NSO with the 64 controller, and I have to say I still really enjoy it. They’ve ironed out most of the kinks with the emulation, and while I agree that it’s disappointing it took Nintendo so long to get it right, I do think now that they have gotten it right it should be given a bit more credit. I currently play it with citra emulator with 4k texture and you can tweak the atmosphere with reshade to give 64 vibes and add a ambient oclusion who make the game beautifull and look like a recent game. and for the controller 360 mouvement issue do you have try the option "set analogue stick" in the input option that should fix the problem. I got the bonus disk with Mario Kart Double Dash For a new player, the way that the 3DS version handles the Jabu Jabu fish is absolutely fantastic compared to the original. Before that point in the game you're given no indication that you can freeform catch things in bottles by using it with the environment. In the 3DS version some NPC dialogue is updated to give some nudges to try it. It also adds a camera pan in the water temple to indicate the existence of the hole under the central shaft - the main reason why people miss that key is simply not knowing that they unlocked that door and it's consistent with other Zelda unlocks to pan to the thing you opened. Those two fixes make OoT 3D the only freeform puzzle game I have ever played with no moon logic required at all.

My first playthrough of OoT was on the 3DS about 10 years ago. I have always tried to avoid guides, but the Sheikah Statues were pretty great. Having Gyroscope for the shooting minigames, the boots as regular items, and greatly detailed backgrounds was amazing. About a year ago I replayed it on the Wii VC, and it was pretty neat! I used my Wavebird controller, and it was such a great experience. I want to see what can be done with the PC port. I would love to play with the 3DS models and textures (or at least reworks on them), and with better FPS and higher resolution. If we ever get free camera movement and RTX it would definitively be the best OoT experience. It's a shame the Wii U and Switch ports were so bad compared to the rest. Input lag and lack of dedication killed an amazing game for those consoles (at least on their first release).

I've never owned an N64, GameCube, Wii or Wii U before and while I do own a Switch I don't have the extended subscription for the N64 ports. And my computer is sadly not the greatest either, so emulators are out of the question for me as well. But luckily I do own a classic 3DS so I am able to play the 3DS remake of this wonderful game. And although I have never played a different version of OoT, making my opinion seem practically useless, but I believe that the 3DS version is the best you can get from this game. While I agree with some people that there is sections in the remake (bottom of the well and the end boss) that are inferior to the original version, the remake just has too many positive aspects and changes that it is the most definitive version of the game.

First off, thanks for watching! I also played the gamecube version on a modded gamecube (swiss) and realised there was a widescreen patch, but I wasn't sure if it worked well throught the entire game (lag and clipping wise) and I know not everyone has the ability to get swiss, as it is not free to mod your gamecube, while it is free on say the Wii. Thanks for letting me and other people who read your comment know :) When I talk about emulation errors, I'm mostly talking about texture inaccuracies. There is some slight artifacting on the buttons, and the pause menu. Pausing has a longer delay compared to other versions and it looks like its rendered in lower quality (compared to the wii for instance). @@ultracreed3080 the only thing that is crappy on the widescreen patch (at least on Wii Nintendont) is that the prerendered 2D backgrounds are 4/3 stretched, so it messes slightly with Link screen position. Ironically even though the wiiu was last on his list it’s my preferred method of playing oot, with a modded wiiu you can get the GameCube releases to run and look pretty well since the wiiu uses hdmi and with a GameCube controller adapter I had a comfortable time playing the whole game on it and having the option to play it on the game pad was also a plus. Having the master quest is also a very nice bonus and gives me a reason to replay the game right after finishing the base game. The pc port can also run on the Wii U, I haven’t personally been able to get it to run but if the GameCube versions of the game aren’t for you the ship of harkinian ports should fix those issues and I’ve heard they’ve been able to get the master quest to work as well.

About OOT on Citra: I also got the issue where Link wasn't walking at full 360 degrees, but it was just a config issue. If you click on the axis detection button and then move your stick horizontal and vertically, it'll make it have proper sensitivity. Also, you can map buttons to touch controls at specific regions. This is useful for mapping the LB to talk with Navi, or the left analog button to get the ocarina.

Besides the recent development of the Ship of Harkinian port (which is very exciting), the best way in 2023 in my opinion is Zelda 64 UHD V6.1, a texture pack for the Collector's Edition Disc for the Gamecube. Emulate it in Dolphin and apply the Texture Pack. You can get Widescreen 30fps with up to 4K resolution (I think 1080p is plenty good enough). Then you can get N64 to USB converter cable for the PC so you can play with an authentic N64 controller on PC.

IMO the best way to play is either on the 3ds, or the Nintendo switch online expansion pack they have for n64. If u want classic n64 look or just don’t have a 3ds then I do recommend Nintendo switch online. Or if your just broke then emulators, specifically ones on pc (or on the delta app for App Store work too if u connect controller) are great, free options. Pc allows for more customization in your emulation while mobile is a bit more streamlined especially on iOS. Hope this helps!

I completed the game twice, once on N64 and then on the 3DS. The first was great, but felt like the performance of the system itself didn't aged well as I expected and it was laggy. The best version imo is the 3DS' one. You're not getting the original idea of what a game was in the late 90's, but that wasn't a problem to me. Furthermore, I really recommend everyone to play OoT, then MM and finish with TP. That was Zelda at it's core for almost 20 years

Citra has been recently developed for the oculus quest. OOT 3D runs outstanding on it, apart from the controls being ever so slightly different, the game runs beautifully. It's higher resolution, has a really good framerate, and best of all, you can actually enjoy the 3D features that the 3DS might have not worked as well with!

What are you talking about?! Why would you say that the Wii U version is bad!? You said that you will not have a good experience playing it and that it would disappoint you… Why?! You never explained that at all! I played through the entirety of Ocarina of Time on my Wii U and thought it was awesome! Button mapping was great, the controllers were great, it was convenient to play on the gamepad sometimes, and save states were a nice addition. Not to mention that I would actually own this game when compared to emulation and NSO… At the very least, there was nothing wrong with playing it that way.

Thanks for watching. After playing every version back to back, I found the input lag horrible. In the footage I showed, you will notice I had a rough time controlling Link. If you didn't notice any input lag or got used to it really fast, then sure, it seems like an okay port. I am personally just very sensitive to it I guess. This list is just my opinion and nothing definitive, so thanks for sharing your opinion! I was harsh on the Wii U version and I realise it after making the video, I shouldn't have. Will take stuff like that in account for future videos :)

The best way to play this game is as follows: It is Christmas break in 1998, you're still in your pajamas. It's snowing outside, but cozy inside the house, and you have hot chocolate Mom made for you. There is no RU-vid, TikTok, or Twitch, though you have a copy of Nintendo Power handy for some game tips. You have no homework or obligations, let alone a job or bills to pay. You blow on the cartridge for good luck before grasping the three pronged monstrosity that is the N64 controller and gazing into the CRT TV screen. Oh, and Ganondorf spits real blood, not green goop.

Ngl I played Ocarina of Time for the first/only time on Wii U and still really enjoy it, don’t really see much of an issue other than the controls for the extra items. Guess it’s just a testament to how good the rest of the game is

I hear ya! A great game is a great game. If you don't have a better release to compare it with, you don't see the problems, and you will adjust to the input lag. I played all these releases for one hour each, back to back to get the footage and then these problems become very noticable haha

Good informative video! I’ve used project 64 on a pretty low end laptop to play through MM and OOT and had no issues I also use a 360 controller and it functions fine for it after configuration. The dead zones are set wayyyyyy to high default on project 64, so setting them to 0 helps a lot. I think you might need to configure your plugins or try a different version of project 64. I do enjoy how easy save states are on project 64
@matty4351
@matty4351 2 года назад
A few extra things to point out about Wii VC: Wii VC (and GC I think) have around 1 frame (50ms) extra input lag compared to N64. The deadzone on the control stick is extremely large on those versions too so aiming precisely in first-person mode is very difficult. Wii VC also has a tendency to randomly crash, it happens I'd say around once every 150 hours of gameplay on average so its pretty rare. It also has no rumble support with Stone of Agony unlike N64. Also minor changes like Wii/GC being based on the 1.2 release so it has the updated Gerudo symbol, Ganon's blood is green and no Fire Temple chanting, but that's all subjective.

Thought the virtual console version on the Wii U game pad was awful trying to use an analog stick for the c items. I’m sure it plays great though on original Wii virtual console with a gamecube controller
@matty4351
@matty4351 Год назад
@@Gawlakman I thought the Wii U VC version had the option to use buttons for the C items? On Wii VC you can use Y as C-Left, X as C-Right and Z as C-Down (C-Up can only be accessed using the stick). That's on GameCube controller at least, and it shares the same controls as the GC release. You've still got the option to use the C-Stick for those buttons but its pretty awful like you said.

Diddy Kong Racing doesn't have a lot of options to play, but it might be the rare case where emulation is high on the list. I got a great texture pack that keeps the cartoony aesthetic without going overboard with crazy resolution textures. It plays very well and is still to this day one of the best kart racers ever made.

I hope Nintendo can launch a remastered version. Because Ocarina of Time has been released for almost all the consoles since N64. In addition to 3DS, they didn't do anything to optimize the graphic or control. Once Nintendo release a 4K console in future, I have confidence they will definitely remake the game. They consumed the revenue of Ocarina too much, so I look forward to getting a perfect a version. Because it is literally a legendary game.

I absolute love the work they done with Ship of Harkinian, it is really good to play and there are a ton of options to choose. The Nswitch version did't work great for me, but i think that it still better than the online version. I usually play with both the Ship and with Retroarch or on my N64. On the N64 i play for the feeling, on Retroarch i play because of some randomizer configurations that the ship don't have, but the ship is far off on the lead of the best way to play it in my opinion. I use an nintendo 64 controller adapter to play it on PC, but i think that a GC controller would work great too.

For me, if I want the classic experience I play Ship of Harkinian. Easy. But if I want a more modernized version, I'll play OOT3D modded to 4K. It's a great middle ground between a remaster, and a mod that tweaks it to look/feel a bit more like the original. It even restores the blood to the Shadow Temple and Well.

I just don’t know if they could pull it off. Inevitably, unless they made it basically like Dreams and let you create custom assets, I think it would eventually become boring. With Mario level aesthetics, you’re usually spending a brief enough time on them that it doesn’t matter as much. Just stay focused on the enemies and platforms and you’ll hardly notice. But Zelda dungeons generally require a little more time.

As of now the 3ds version is probably the best, it looks the best, ironed out some things that were dated or could've worked better in the original, and is fairly accessible. Before the N64 version was decompiled, the 3ds version was easily the best and there was no reason to go back to the original besides nostalgia or speedruns, however the decompiled version has the potential to look and play better than any other version but it's just not there yet

Love all the options. One thing that is important to me is fast-forward on emulation, which N64 emulators do well now. With all of the dialog and back and forth early in the game, setting FF to a shoulder button makes the game much less tedious. My current favorite is M64plus on Android upscaled and in widescreen. Can't wait to try the Ship of Harkinian and 3ds options though.

Despite having the Wii and 3ds versions as well as NSO, I started (re) playing it (occasionally like a bit every 2-3 weeks) the Wii U version. I honestly have no problem with it, you didn't say why exactly the Wii U version is the worst, what is wrong with it? Edit: Nevermind I overheard it the first time, the visuals and input lag. I personally like the black filter Wii u virtual console games have because it helps with the atmosphere of OoT.
