@brianpeterson5559 I never saw this show, except the last few minutes when Jane strangled some guy who evidentally was responsible for the death of his wife-it was VERY unsettling seeing a brainy guy commit murder, but, anyway, this scene reminds of something seemingly happened at the end of virtual every episode, I'm told, on "Perry Mason:" not only did PM win virtually every case, but, very often, the actual criminal/killer, sitting in the audience, confessed the the crime! Now, the attorney didn't actual confess, he may as WELL have with all of that babbling about himself, which is ESPECIALLY egregious for a lawyer. Like you say, "Sometimes farfetched..."

The Mentalist has a lot of entertaining scenes. What makes this one "Legendary", exactly? "He knows his way around a gun, so you might be the murderer. Submit to an impromptu search warrant. No? Handcuffs." The best thing about this scene is how many hunters it caused to break out in angry hives.

Probably getting a prosecutor to incriminate himself in the middle of the investigation of a crime he knows he committed, despite Jane having little to no real courtroom experience? That's like the person throwing-out the first pitch at a ball game going on to 3-strike A-Rod looking. Edit: also, it's been a long time since I saw the episode, but I don't think knowing guns was the only piece pointing to the prosecutor. It just jumped him to the head of the line. The question about refusing the search was pretty much moot, anyway; they were going to get the warrant, and he wasn't going to have time to conceal the murder weapon before that happened.
@Chris_Sizemore
@Chris_Sizemore Год назад
What is beautiful about this is the entire proceedings was an end run on the prosecutor. Jane has no authority to do anything. By "assaulting" the prosecutor he was able to get himself and the DA put before a judge to settle the matter. Then answer questions under oath. Jane's testimony is purely hearsay, but the accusation isn't germain to the hearing. Yet the accusation is powerful enough that when a judge and police investigators hear it they are compelled to act on it. The prosecutor ends up being held and the police get their search warrant before he can act. And Jane gets to pay a fine if I'm the judge. This is this, and that is that.
@ItsMelodyy
@ItsMelodyy Год назад
I don't think that was the point of the scene. It's been a minute for me to watch this but from what I can recall, there was more evidence pointing to the prosecutor in question that Jane had pieced together. They were just provoking a response to show the judge he was acting suspicious and had something to hide. Knowing your way around a gun by itself isn't really what the point was, it was just what they used to provoke a response. You can tell by how Jane's acting that no matter what they answer, he already knows what the answer is and you can see that he's going somewhere with what he's doing / what he's saying. Throughout the series it's shown that nine times out of ten, he says or does something for a specific reason.

Lie to Me is a fun show, and I love Tim Roth, but the "science" behind it is a one-dude grift, unfortunately. While I know The Mentalist is also very dramatized, of course, the principles it uses are long-standing, which adds something to it for me. I remember that Numb3rs show being pretty good, though I haven't the maths to say how accurate it might be. Seemed decent; they tended to take time to lay-out some mathematical concepts. House MD also had the "plausible episodic scientific mystery-solving" element to it. And, of course, the grandsire of most of this genre, Sherlock Holmes, had a great recent-ish adaptation starring Benedict Cumberbatch. These are all well-known, but hopefully they might put you on the path to some new fun stuff. Best of luck! Edit: just remembered; Suits. IIRC, tale of a self-taught nobody faking his way into a high-powered law firm with the help of one of their junior associates.

I loved the series Sherlock because even though it had peculiar characters and weird crimes, it was very realistic. Here everyone thinks that J is a clown and then he makes a supposition that maybe the criminal is the lawyer itself and suddenly everyone believes him. The world itself helps him becomes almost like a god in his show.

Sherlock needed to explain who the culprit was, the motive, how it was killed and show real solid evidence and not a belief or idea. While also most of the time having an enormous hard time, against the criminal itself. I do understand the love for the show Though, is like Lucifer. A goldike character who is cocky and everything goes on his favor.

@@hgfjhfgify except Jane doesn't always get his way. The reason why people enjoy the show is because watching Jane manipulate people is ridiculously entertaining. He's got a good nose for details but his biggest strength is knowing what makes people tick. People keep watching cause they can't wait to see what antics he's gonna come up with next. How is he going to trick people into giving themselves up this time? Plus, the chemistry between the cast was always amazing.

@@sindri1447 You could say Lucifer instead of Jane and still match perfectly.

And this is why the entertainment industry is dying. Everything has to be "realistic", otherwise it is too silly for the "big brainers".

@@realMoMoPuFF Entertainment industry dying?, What are You talking about. My complain is to the silly plot armor Jane has in mentalism, I don't think it was that hard to understand.

In my opinion, The Mentalist is a very unique series. I couldn't find a series same taste. But you can try "Lie to me", "White Collar", "Blacklist". These can give you the similar vibe. But even it is not the same type you're looking for, you can try "Person of Interest" too. It's an awesome series in crime category.
