In this deck tech we discuss strategy and card choices for a legendary matters deck lead by Ratadrabik of Urborg. Decklist: www.moxfield.c... Discord Group: / discord
You get a token copy of the demon. Additionally, if you copy a legend that can transform, the token also has the ability to transform now as well (relatively new ruling and very cool for Rata) 🙂
They are and Ratadrabik will trigger, making token copies of them. If you target Rata himself, you'll end up with one Legendary Rata and one non-Legend. If you target another Legendary creature, you'll end up with three copies of them.
Have you thought about adding 'Balthor the Defiled' as a strong recursion piece? With a sac outlet and your commander out, you can loop every black creature for every 3 black mana you can create. Making a token of Balthor, sacrificing all your black creatures and activating Balthor to get them all back.
I did consider it, but the 3 black pips are a real cost, and giving opponents a chance to reanimate their stuff can also bring its own issues. But maybe most of all, deck slots are getting tight now for rata, so playing something for 4 mana that requires an additional 3 to do something is a tough ask.
I think Mikaeus, the Unhallowed is strong enough to include on his own but he creates an infinite loop with Luminous Broodmoth too. Blade of Selves would be a lot of fun here. Can make you a bunch of Ratadrabiks or lock the game down or out with Yosei or Kokusho.
Mikaeus was in the original list, but now that we include quite a few humans, his effect wasn't as consistent as I'd like, especially for 6 mana. I often found I preferred having Luminous Broodmoth instead. Blade is good, but I really dislike how it gets significantly worse when even one opponent is out of the game and downright does nothing when two are out. The equip cost and needing to go to combat to trigger can also be awkward at times.
