It makes me sad when I think of all of the great films made in a ten year period from 1989 to 1999: Field of Dreams, Goodfellas, Dances with Wolves, Edward Scissorhands, Silence of the Lambs, Unforgiven, T2, A Few Good Men, Schindler's List, The Fugitive, Tombstone, Forrest Gump, Shawshank Redemption, Pulp Fiction, Legends of the Fall, Heat, Casino, Braveheart, Se7en, Fargo, LA Confidential, Boogie Nights, Titanic, Saving Private Ryan, The Thin Red Line, Good Will Hunting, Rounders, Fight Club, American Beauty. And I could name about 25 to 50 more easily that were very good to great. Compare that to the past ten years. Another sign the culture of the U.S. has bottomed out.
@STONESGAM
@STONESGAM 2 года назад
@Tommy Xenogroth Yes, 2000-2010 was decent. Things really started to trend downward in the past decade...especially the last five years. TV was sort of at a peak in the 2000s with the Sopranos, The Wire, Breaking Bad, Mad Men, etc but that is sort of trending downhill too with all this cancel culture and PC indoctrination. I'm just saying you can name so many films that have become classics from the 90s but not very many from 2010-current day. That's why people go on RU-vid a lot and the film industry is dying out.

This was a hit at the box office in 1994 but it wasn't particularly hyped by critics. It sort of got so-so reviews. I think it is great. An epic film. But 94 also had Shawshank, Pulp Fiction, and Forrest Gump up for best picture. So it tends to get overlooked. If it came out now it would probably be up for like ten Oscars since movies have gotten so weak lately. The music, cinematography, casting and story were all first rate. Just a classic old fashioned story type of movie. If a bit melancholy and sad. But World War 1 was no fairytale and neither was the US as far as law and order during the late teens and early 1920s.

I swear it pisses me off how good this movie is lol, I was born in 93 I watch it when I was like 15, ever since then it's been perpetual for the very reason that it resonate on every aspect of life based on character development and purpose, it's legendary and at a time when this country was finding its way through life itself, I wouldn't doubt a story of this nature was true during that time. I absolutely hated this movie. Yes. I hate it. It's based on Jim Harrison's novella. It's quite exciting and overwrought. Brad turns in a great performance as Tristan. They all do great work. It's just ... I dislike the characters. Everyone loves Tristan because he is wild and nonconformist and aloof, but NObody can have him. (I find him self-indulgent, irresponsible, and inconsiderate. But he's freeeee!) Tristan permanently grieves over letting his little brother die in WWI, which seems more like grieving his inability to be Superman as if he really-really thought he could save little brother from the Kaiser's entire forces. Then there's Julia Ormond, the girl who everyone wants and subsequently beds. (I bet her journal notes are interesting). She just needs to get the hell off the ranch and start over, rather than being in a relationship with every single one of the brothers. Finally, it's all filled with native American John Redcorn foo-foo. He embodies the spirit of the grizzly bear and all that. Tristan's hair blows when there's never a breeze. I guess what irritates me is Jim Harrison for writing it.

Over and over I read in these comments.. "they just don't make movies like this anymore " Well I'm asking you why not? Why is everything made now so dark or dystopian? These beautiful masterpieces of movies that touch us so deeply are important because they connect us all as caring, empathetic beings. The dark movies made today are only aimed at making us desensitized to violence and horrifying, dehumanizing actions or situations. Take your focus off these dark things and show caring toward eachother. We each need to focus on bringing back the human heart and soul to our lives and those around us. Peace and love to everyone. ❤️✌️

Various reasons but the big one is money, back then studios could give small movie projects 10-20-30 million to work on a good movie bc even if it doesn't do to good in the movie theaters they can always expect to make their money selling DVD's, now since DVD's basically died out they can't risk giving 20-30 mill to make random movies and rather use that money to make movies that will 100% make their money back like action, superhero movies 10 different remakes of old movies

why does the music sound the same as Last of the Mohicans?

Now Hollywood will never make such movies again. They are in stark contrast to all multiculturalism and transgenderism. The film is about family, brotherly love and the authority of the Father.

This is one of the only movies that made me cry. Like really cry. The scene at war where you know who dies. Just broke me.

Modern directors and producers can take a very profound lesson from a movie like this.

Watched it but didn't care for it. Can't see what everyone is raving about. Not a very realistic story line.

The scene where Alfred comforts Susannah and the Colonel tells her she’s been nothing but trouble since she came to the house, is nowhere to be found, not even in the deleted scenes portion of the dvd. The scene in the movie is him telling Alfred damn you and then tell her damn you too. Alfred tels him to leave her out if it. I’ve always wondered what exactly did he say. I loved this movie. I remember going to the theatre by myself to see it.

Too boring for me. As someone who lives entire life in the big cities and watching RU-vid videos and movies from around the globe. Movies about horses, farm , and sunset and a love story is just not a storyline I would even think of making a movie out of it. Forrest Gump and cast away are much more interesting storyline

I had the chance to see this in theaters. I shock the industry won't give it a reshowing on its 30 year anniversary. It's a movie that makes you want to go to see it. Captivating & Amazing.
