Funny thing about this scene it makes you think sometimes about delusions being that of an illusion thinking you can do no wrong in fact life is like that sometimes.
When the Buddha started to wander around India shortly after his enlightenment, he encountered several men who recognized him to be a very extraordinary being. They asked him: "Are you a god?" "No," he replied. "Are you a reincarnation of god?" "No," he replied."Are you a wizard, then?" "No." "Well, are you a man?" "No." "So what are you?" They asked, being very perplexed. Buddha simply replied: "I am awake." Buddha means “the awakened one.” How to awaken is all he taught.

FYI-there is a real disorder that is very rare (really rare) where the person beleives that a limb does not belong to them. If I remember my Psychology history correctly, this did actually happen to someone where they sought medical help to amputate an arm they beleived was not theirs.
See, I always had a problem with the use of this allegory as it is implied that David’s mindset, both in the comics and in this series, was beset but what they define as delusion. Thence leading to psychoses. But are not delusions what the mind create? If, as is the case with David, they are actually inventions of a being that has inhabited his subconscious and therefore the delusions are artificial constructs - then the delusions are not genuine, which then calls into question the nature of delusions as posited by this example of Alfred A. Has he created this delusion of his own accord, or has he, like David, had his consciousness co-opted by something more malignant? Food for thought.
It's complicated. What's even "you". A lot of programs (thought processes) run simultaneously on your processor (brain). Do we call the personality all the running processes or the results? The process of identification of A. bodyparts as his own malfunctioned or was replaced - unknown. Did it worked one time and stopped? Or did it run continuously and identified leg all the time as not his? We know very little.
He isn't a real person, but there ARE cases like this, it's an actual mental disorder, BIID. (I can't remember for the life of me what it stands for, something like "Body something Identity disorder". It's been ages since I read about it and I can't be arsed to google it, lol)
