Loreen's victory changed the contest forever, to a total new era. She has been 1st. In every year's top 250 of Eurovision since 2012. And she really can sing. Have in mind that she was dancing during the whole song and she didn't missed the notes. The dancing is like the brazilian dancing "capoeira" a blend between dance and martial arts.

I mean sure we're entitled to our own opinions but the fact that you deem that there is something to be desired of this woman's vocals is insane considering the sheer stamina and belting it requires to project one's voice like that to fill an entire stadium WHILE moving the way she does. I'd say her singing and presence is what made her performance so impactful, the "theatrics" would be void without that voice.
I think that one reason this song stood out (except that the song is awesome) is that the performance was a stark contrast to all of the other participants’ performances. She’s all alone up there, not well lit, barefoot, a bit of a mystery. That’s not very typical of Eurovision, which usually is more bombastic, glitz and glamour (as you probably have seen a bit of). For those saying "She changed the contest forever" in 1996 the UK (my country) sent an electronic dance song. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-eh_KwCI4tUA.html So we were years ahead of Loreen but it did not win. However the UK 1996 entry did cause the contest to be altered. In 1996 Ireland won with a brilliantly sung but boring song nobody liked. The UK entry in 1996 was a worldwide hit. The contest was changed because of this to make the contest more public voting to take into consideration what the public actually liked rather than music that was "good" but people didn't actually want to listen to. The view was that having music that people did not want to listen to would be bad for the contest, so we did it way back in 1996. However there may have been other entries which were similar in earlier years, I don't know. I know about it because I am from the UK and know how the entry changed the contest despite coming I think 8th. 1997 (the next year) was the first year of televoting which 5 countries used eventually all countries would use it.

And there are some others... That sucks... Like this. Yeah sweden could say the same about Norway winning that one year with a song inspired by folk, we had Sarek, but we didnt vote for them. More people in sweden know them then whomever was the winner that year. Ireland is the king of eurovision. Unfortunately, england is the jester.
