Genn Greymane, one of the few beings dwelling within the World of Warcraft who has been blessed with the privilege of handing Sylvanas Windrunner an unmitigated L.
As a father who has lost his son, I can't ever watch this cutscene again without shedding tears whenever Genn says "For my son" and "You took my son's future and now I have taken yours." I wish I had someone I could target for vengeance and vent all my anger and frustrations on.
Believe me, you don't want that. It leads down a very, very dark path and could result in unimaginable harm to innocent people just to make the guilty party suffer. Trust me, I was walking it once.
The voice actor for Greymane did a damn good job in this clip. I love how he yells "I will have my VENGEANCE! For Varian! For Gilneas! FOR! MY! SON!" You can hear so well with the last three words that this is a angry man who is out for vengeance and has nothing to lose.
I like how this comment literally sounds like a chat GPT response explaining what happened in the video and what emotion it portrayed, but then to realise its a 7 year old comment
One thing I love about the ending of this cinematic, is what they did with Genn's voice. When he said "You took my son's future", he sounds like a human, a dad who lost his son. And then outside the frame we hear a voice of a beast, carving for vengeance, yet satisfied with what he just did "And now, I've taken yours." As if it's 2 sides of the same coin. One where he is human and the other, where there's a raging beast.
I'm a bit of a Sylvanas fanboy but I honestly have to side with Genn here. I would probably do the same thing if I felt I had the chance. A man with nothing to lose is never to be toyed with.
I enjoy Sylvanas for what she is, but yeah. Anyone that thinks she's in the right in this situation is a maniac. She's done a lot of horrible and downright evil things.
Idk about that. He's pretty badass no doubt but Darius Crowley is more badass than he is. Not to mention Tyrande (when Blizzard write her properly), Mekkatorque, Danath Trollbane, Kurdran Wildhammer, Muradin Bronzebeard and the list goes on. The Alliance has a load of underused badasses frankly.
Additionally Magni became un-petrified and is able to commune with Azeroth's World-Soul. The Bronzebeard brother are definitely the most badass brother you have in Azeroth. (Brann, too)
Gotta say, Genn is really growing on me as a character. Worgen or not, he's sort of the last embodiment of the old Warcraft 2 version of the Alliance, which is pretty awesome to counterbalance a bunch of the new characters (well, I say NEW - I mean WarCraft 3 and forwards).
Why do people defend Sylvanas? Unprovoked, she stole Genn's kingdom while it was weak. She slaughtered and enslaved Genn's people, and killed his son. Quite hypocritical, considering the fact that she constantly whines and bitches about Arthas ruining her kingdom. She took over Hillsbrad in such a disgusting and vile manner; massacring innocents and burying the survivors up to their heads in dirt, like some kind of twisted farm. Now that Gilneas is back in action, this bitch is going to feel the hound bite back for once. I see people saying they want Genn to die, but that would ruin the potential for such a satisfying revenge story. Sylvanas will regret the day she provoked Gilneas, and I'm going to enjoy every bit of it.
Bob Reno Yes, but the way she conducted her invasion was horrible. She used plague when explicitly told not to, resulting in a rather vile desecration of Gilneas. Sylvanas was pretty willing to invade Gilneas herself anyway. She revealed that in Silverpine.
Kieran Marcus The Ebon Blade attacked a friendly faction in their own order hall, killed various members, and only the light stopped them for ressing Tirion. They're also going to slaughter the WHOLE RED DRAGONFLIGHT for no reason. And nobody blinks an eye.
andrea ghiretti nobody ever said the Ebon Blade were good guys. They just weren’t bad guys we are fighting since they helped with scourge secrets, without them we wouldn’t have ever gotten close to Arthas. After that, they’re still undead, if Death Knights don’t kill they pretty much go insane. Everyone knows they’re evil but they figure an evil fighting with us is better than an evil fighting against us I guess.
I'm mainly a Horde player. Almost all of my characters are Horde. The Horde has always been my favorite faction. Despite all this: I cheered for Greymane the whole time while watching this xD Such an EPIC scene!
@@oluftheexplorer9476 It’s really not that weird. Some people just prefer the races of one faction over the other. Some people may only have 1 character on one faction.
evil in what way exactly? this certainly isn't enough to justify such an insult, so I assume you're talking about Gilneas? it's evil to lay siege to an enemy "country"? because that's basically what that was, on her own turf no less.
+Raybeze It's evil to plague them. Also Gilneas wasn't an enemy country at the time. She and Garrosh (let's not forget his role) invaded them for no reason while they hid behind their wall and actually made them their enemies and pushed them back into the Alliance.
I mean, she makes a deal with the evil goddess Helya and then tries to force Eyir (the val'kyr queen, who is loyal to Odyn and trying to help stop the legion) and her Val'kyr into slavery and steal her power so....
Even Garrosh had forbidden the use of the plague, the undead are an abomination, everyone deserves to rest, humans, taurens, elves, etc Sylvanas and her forsaken shouldn't exist EDIT: Forgot to mention, same goes for death knights, but hey, that's my opinion.
Anyone who says Sylvanas is not evil needs to do the Silverpine and Hillsbrad questline asap. I fucking hope she dies. I'm still bitter about Blizz killing off Vol'jin to progress her storyline as a fan service for her pre-pubescent angsty fan boys.
+Dmm 435 That would be the only way for her to die again. After all, both times she's fallen it's been in the name of her people, be they High Elves or Forsaken, past and present. For all her shady dealings, she is a rather selfless leader amongst her followers most of the time.
I dont root for shit, both are retards in their own way. Genn, for attacking the Horde while Legion summons countless demons from Tomb of Sargeras. Sylvanas, acting once more selfish and using the warchief mantle only to pursue immortality which will do nothing if the Legion wins the war.
MyViolador late to the party but yes! That is the theme that plays when Varian dies (RIP). Its a mix of the Stormwind theme with a really dramatic touch.
You fucking dumbass, a fel reaver clung on to their ship. Varian had to sacrifice himself in order to save the alliance. Can't say much for Horde haha.
Great cut-scene, Sylvanas, standing there monologuing. And Genn wordlessly shatters her dreams. Then with words filled with fuck you walks away like a boss.
I honestly feel so bad for Genn, he lost his son to Sylvanas and now wants nothing but vengeance for him. I'd be in a furious rage trying to get vengeance if my son's killer was in my vicinity, too.
I loved this cinematic. Had me at the edge of my seat when I was watching it. Even though I mainly play Horde, I was so worried Graymane was going to get killed, so it was a real treat to see him not only survive, but to deal a huge blow to Sylvanas's schemes and get some vengeance for Gilneas. I know a lot of people are probably confused as to why Graymane is so adamantly against Sylvanas, but if you did the Worgen Starting Zone, the Silverpine and Hillsbrad questline, the atrocities Sylvanas has committed runs so much deeper than just commanding the Horde retreating in the Broken Isles battle and leaving the Alliance vulnerable to be flanked. (See, being angry over the Horde retreating seems unfair, considering both the Horde and Alliance would have lost anyways.)
So glad they are following up on the rivalry between Gilneas and the Forsaken! Been wanting to see this dynamic escalate since I did the questlines in Gilneas, Silverpine and Hillsbrad in Cata.
So, I just had a though. Given that Genn can resist the poison from Sylvanas' arrow due to the Worgen curse, does that mean that Liam sacrificed himself for nothing? There's no way either could have known at the time, but in retrospect that would mean that Liam died for nothing - his father could have survived the shot.
Aftrer cinematic when you deliver quest as an alliance, npc states that the greymane got just in time to get antidote, so no he is not immune. They didn't have antidote back fhen when Genn son died
Five years too late, but Sylvanas says the poison used on Liam was specifically meant to kill Genn. It surely would have, being overkill for Liam as well.
And another question, should it have been Genn instead of Saurfang to Mak'gora Sylvanas. In the BFA intro cinematic Genn b1tchslaps saurfang like a (very big) green toy. Guy propably has decent shadow resistance too lol
Leo Tacugue well, knowing Sylvanas, she would rather burn live civilians, and you can’t really find that in Gilneas at the moment. But on the bright side Blizzard might bring Gilneas back during this expansion!
Leo Tacugue well, I’m a worgen death knight. Though I do grieve for Teldrasil, I believe it is an opening chance for Blizzard to replace it with Gioneas. I just love the atmosphere
Guys if you put yourselves in the places of both Genn and Sylvanas, you will see that both sides are right in their own respect. So before throwing shit at each other, think about this, Sylvanas constantly remarks that she is worried about the future of her people, that being the Forsaken, and the only way to ensure their survival is to acquire the Valkyrs' powers. No one can even argue that Sylvanas wants all those powers for her own personal agenda. It is clear that her greatest concern has always been her people, and that responsibility grew even further when she unwillingly became the Warchief. Some of you may not agree with her methods which she uses to achieve those goals but in the end, Sylvanas did what she did to make Forsaken matter in the world. It is not that hard to figure it out, but Sylvanas is the exact definition of a Chaotic Good. Genn on the other hand is a grieving father whom has lost his son, his friend and his entire city and as fas as Im concerned has every right to be pissed at the Horde, specifically Sylvanas. She razed his city, killed his son and the way he sees it, she also betrayed and abandoned them at the Broken Shore which led to the death of his dear friend and the King of the Alliance, Varian. These are just events that build up to the hatred we just saw between the two. There will probably never ever be peace between Genn and Sylvanas but that's just the way it is. Maybe we should just accept this and respect the motives and intentions of both sides before yelling 'Fuck this, fuck that' or whatever. Blizzard isn't just making up goofy shit for you fanboys to trash talk at each other, what I've said earlier is just the tip of the iceberg, there is a lot more to those characters which add to their developments throughout the story and I believe that is what make us feel for those characters. Can't we just get over this already and enjoy the story? Or at least channel our common hatred towards Gul'dan pls, he sucks.
Forsaken of Lordaeron should be led by a Forsaken of LORDAERON. Not a pretender obsessed with attaining immortality with the Forsaken as her meatshield.
Thanks Genn I wanted to see something like this since Cataclysm! He could have taken her bow when he attacked her but he choose to take her destiny instead ! And i am interested what Odyn is going to say to the horde :P
Just came here after seeing Sylvanas just destroy Saurfang. Wtf happened to her? Here she's kinda getting tossed around by fucking Greymane and then an expansion later she just destroyed one of the greatest warriors to ever live.
Barokai Rein well sylvanas is much stronger in bfa i think. And the thing is genn is pretty strong, or at the very least his hatred for her rivals her own hatred for arthas and that made him strong enough to fight her. Also hes likely much faster than saurfang due to his worgen form.
She's now empowered by some powerful kind of dark magic. Did you see that purple energy in her hands when she's talking to Saurfang? That's void to me. Old God magic. This explains her growing power.
Sylvanas was after the Val'kyr in order to assure the survival of the Forsaken as a species, Genn however had lost his home to the Forsaken, not just that, but from what he saw, Sylvanas retreated, she had already taken his son, she had turned his land into something worthy of Fallout due to the fact that even now in the lore Gilneas is still trying to be cleansed of plague making it a wasteland. Sylvanas, ruined his life, his peoples lives, he has a daughter, he has a wife, but he lost, a son. He also lost his home, his best friends daughter was kidnapped only to be traded in for the Worgen to leave Gilneas a defeat that cost Genn heavily. He has lost, in his heart, everything. His son was meant to succeed him, not his daughter, Tess may rise to be a great queen, but Genn sees only a daughter. So to him, Sylvanas, took away his future, and so now, he has repaid her, by taking away the one thing that would assure the survival of her species. Now she has "No" way to rebuild the Forsaken, and sooner or later, they will be forced to accept that without the living, they, will die forever.
It is, they didn't coordinate their retreat with the Alliance. The faction whose warcry is: "Lok'tar Ogar! Victory or Death!" was the one that chickened out and backed off while the other faction was facing bigger Force. Horde got outmaneuvered, chickened out and simply botched the entire assault.
They didn't coordinate? They blew a f*cking horn for everyone to hear, yet the Alliance feels betrayed somehow. Also, there's a difference dying honorably in battle and getting slaughtered from two fronts for no reason.
***** To coordinate a military retreat, all segments first prepare for the retreat, then retreat together. Going "*tuut tuut sound the horn tuut tuut* We going back bitches, ya'll better run fo yo lives!" isn't coordinated...
To be fair, Blizzard failed during the Broken Shore cinematic on Allianceside. While the situation looked quite dire for the Horde, as Alliance you see how her archers slander off the ridge with no urgend haste and turn their backs to the alliance. From below, depicted as it was, you could come to the same conclution, that the Horde turns tail and leaves the Alliance to die. I like the horde version better because of how hasty the retreat looks.
There are no excuses for evil when people talks about sylvana’s past , just look for the Varyan’s story and learn what is a tragic past but he still kept on his way ! That’s what a better person do and that’s why varyan was better
Sorry, already been confirmed that Sylvanas will be turned on by the Horde and replaced by Nathanos Blightcaller as leader of the undead. Datamining implies her future is in a Dalaran prison cell.
you mean Queen "everything I do fucks up hilariously but people still find excuses for my failures" or Queen "I'm totally not like the Lich King even though I do everything he did"
I see people saying he disobeyed Anduin's orders. True enough, but he didn't do this in the Alliance's name, he did this in his son's name, in Gilneas name, and in Varian's name. Notice he doesn't mention the Alliance in this cinematic.
i don't think any of those people would like genn going on selfish missions to get his vengeance, sinking the forsaken fleet, downing the skyfire and wasting resources on finding sylvanas when there's much greater threats to face
daenerys targaryen What about Sylvanas who wants to secure a future for Forsaken ? She doesn't care about Azeroth or the Legion, she only cares about her power. If Genn didn't do this, then the next threat would have been Sylvanas.
Ezorde it's not like he knew she was going to enslave the val'kyr, he just happened to conveniently stop her from doing such on his petty quest for vengeance
Genn has my vote for being the new High King of the Alliance. Whats the point of stopping the Legion only to have Sylvanas stab us in the back afterwards.
because her body in short canon story described as nigh indestructible. "Slowly, she crunched her way to the ragged edge of the icy platform. A thousand feet below, shrouded by the clouds, lay a forest of shattered saronite spikes she had scouted out earlier. The fall alone couldn't kill her: her animate flesh was nigh indestructible. But the spikes, the hardened blood of an Old God, they not only would tear the body apart but would obliterate the soul as well. She longed for it. A return to peace. The work she had begun in the forests of Silvermoon was finally complete with the death of Arthas."-Sylvanas Windrunner: Edge of Night
I remember when we defeated Garrosh and Jaina asked Varian to dismantle the horde and then some called her a bitch, witch and even now as dreadlord when she is right. Anyway, this cinematic clearly shows who's the real bitch. Thank you Genn for chasing her.
