I’m not kidding you, I remember finding this in a Lego store at the Downtown Disney location in Orlando Florida August 2007. I had no idea it even existed. I was on vacation and I had just read a chapter in a Bionicle Legends book about Karzahni. My mind was blown and I convinced my Dad to let me get it right then and there.

I love how Karzahni looks like he has an older mans posture giving him more of an elder look

I love how even without the half and half design this mutated version of Karzahni captures how twisted the character is.

With all the trouble it takes to acquire this set, the only thing I feel was a missed opportunity for this video would've been a couple shots showing how Lesovik's set looks used in conjunction with this one. Staring Karzahni down, side-by-side with his Matoran allies... >sighs nostalgically< A shelf with those two sets together acting out the scene sounds legendary, a highlights of any long-time fan's collection. I love the Matoran. They're kinda plain, but they add to Dekar and Defilak, populating Mahri Nui that much more. But Karzahni himself.... wow. 2007 was the best year for Titans. We got so many of them, and such variety, such creative use of the VAST amount of molds they had by this point. They look like boss characters in a videogame. Karzahni here is weirdly proportioned, alien and a little bug-like. Nothing like how he looked in 2006, it's pretty clear the set was designed first and the name Karzahni just glued onto it, but this is PEAK Bionicle villain design. Personally though, I might just put some CCBS "socket extenders" on those hips if they're on-hand.

I like the 'conflict in a box' aspect, something Bionicle never really did outside of the playsets and the 2016 Toa and Protectors, probably on account of how large the figures are compared to minifigs. Also, you've brought it up a few times, but I didn't think there needed to be a _reason_ for the Hordika masks or the Ehlek heads, or for that matter the Turaga's feet, or the Vezon faces on Maxilos... do they _need_ a reason to use any part, if it fulfills its purpose in the set? It's LEGO. What it was originally designed for is irrelevant.

This has always been one of my favorite villain designs from Bionicle. I know he's not "lore accurate" to his book description but it's still always been one of my favorite

Great review, whoever designed this set definitely put a lot of love into it. They really should have done more playsets like this or at least bundled matoran with other titans. The trap is kinda cool but It would've been more interesting if they gave it some personality, maybe give it eyes and make it into some sort of automaton or rahi idk.

This was a Toys R Us exclusive if I’m correct, so by now, BOTH places you can find Karzahni are, in- and out- of universe, inaccessible. If only the Hydruka were made in black and white, we would have had six small sets of each color. Love this set. I LOVE Karz himself, the Matoran are great, and the trap is pretty cool.

The story-in-a-box is my all time favorite set out of my bionicle collection. Hearing how difficult it is to get nowadays makes me so glad I got it early!

I keep getting reminded about this everytime I watch your videos, but your Bionicle reviews are really really high quality, probably the best Bionicle reviews on RU-vid in my opinion (Sorry Eljay, no offense to you haha). Can't believe we're already this close to 2008. I really liked this set back then, still do, though the price nowadays is really high. Overall, he's really awesome.

Just had such a long stressful day I'm so glad to finally sit back and watch this

On August 25, 2021, I picked up Karzahni for $280.20 with shipping. Before it was $249.99 that I bid. 2007 is my favorite year of Bionicle, so if there was one I was going to go out of my way to complete, it was this year. And Karzahni was the last figure set for me to collect of that year, give or take a few parts to fix up Kalmah and Maxilos. And not counting the "good/bad guy" sets either. This was a fitting one to leave for last and struck when I was able to find it. I still had to replace two common parts but I'm still happy to have him to complete 2007 in Bionicle. Not to mention, as I talked about in the Mahri-toran / Hydruka review comments, I own now two copies of Sarda and Idris, maybe sometime later I can convert them to make unique Matoran figures with the rest.

Been in the process of building this bad boy for a few months now! Was fortunate enough to come into a lot with Sarda, Idris, and the trap, but not a hint of Karzahni himself to be found. I absolutely adore the Mahri matoran design, this was my first time seeing them in person and it's such a well-structured look for them. The trap is certainly nothing to write home about, but nice parts are always welcome. I'm about halfway to completing the set's namesake and I'm continually shocked at not only the complexity of parts going into him, but how insane the prices for individual pieces can end up becoming. Still, seeing him here and soon on my shelf next to Lesovikk, I imagine it will be quite worthwhile!

I remember building this set when I was a kid suffering from a really bad migraine in 2008. The only thing I remember from that time when I had that migraine is that I was annoyed it didn't come with his mask. If I remember correctly my parents got this and loads of 2008 sets from a place that was closing down for really cheap price

I was able to get this set in an $80 eBay lot about two years ago, it was Karzahni and the Matoran (no trap), Hydraxon and a couple Toa Mahri all from the 2007 store display. I had to replace a bunch of damaged limbs that were glued and shattered but otherwise 100% worth it for the price!

This is the only Marhi Nui set I didn’t have as a kid. Thinking about getting that collection back

I still don't understand why people rather use Karzahni's pieces over having him built. This set is amazing in many ways. I really love this set! (I'm completing this guy and I'm one green chestpiece, four claw-fingers and that pesky blue Ruru to complete it). I knew I was about to struggle to having this guy when I decided to collect 2007, but I'm happy that now I'm just focusing on Karzahni to complete the year. :) Can't wait for next week!

Such an odd set. Back in 2007, I was obsessed with the Mahri Nui titans, (after the big ad) but they weren't in any stores anywhere. Then, I was walking down an aisle, and spotted Kharzani. Somebody had returned him, because they didn't like him, so I got him for NZ $31 (about $20 US). I made the set, and realised...I also didn't like him! He had no weapons, felt so clunky. The whole trap was so odd, I immediately just put him on a shelf, and played with other sets. Now knowing the price...it might be time for me to go home and dust him off to sell him! Awesome review as always, very good point about the Matorans being dope. I also found the cape to be kinda gross. Can't wait for Gadunka and the Phantoka line!

I had no idea this set was even a thing! The Matoran are great as semi-unique figs, but I would have LOVED if the red one used a different Metru mask in red. Maybe the green or white one. Either way, amazing set!

It was actually the zyglak that killed his team not karzahni, but he did kinda mess him up by showing him a false future where he saved his team

Those shoulder pieces are actually on the manta ray Barakki, just in black and silver instead. I know this because my brother had that one, and was forever beating up my Toa with it when we played together xD Excellent review! Long time watcher, first time commenter (least to my poor memory). Looking forward to the angler fish-looking bad guy, he always creeped me out as a kid.

At first, I thought you would review Gadunka first before this, but oh well. As for Karzahni, I remember being very envious at the time of a friend who had obtained this set for his tenth birthday. He had described finding it behind a piano next to a staircase that morning, and also obtained Hydraxon alongside it. Karzahni is also the only constraction-scale Bionicle set to have four models involved. Sarda and Idris mark the final appearance of the Hordika chest plates, and Sarda in particular is the final set to have the Visorak double socket joint in dark stone, the "Voodoo arms" from the Toa Mata and the spiked Inika feet in Metru red (new dark red)-along with Vakama Metru's Great Huna. Similar to what I said with the Bohrok limbs in Metru green (earth green) in the comments of your Mahri Matoran review, this is the only Bionicle set to have that piece in Metru red and Metru blue (earth blue) on Sarda and Idris respectively, though it appeared in both colors in two "Vikings" sets (7015 and 7021 respectively) in the two years before this. As such, these two also mark the final appearance of the Bohrok limbs all together. Idris in particular marks the fourth and final appearance of the hand socket and Visorak double socket joint in transparent fluorescent blue, and is also the second of three sets to have the rounded Inika feet in solid Metru blue. On Karazahni himself, the armor first seen on Carapar and Mantax recolored in melded shades of green is exclusive to him, as are Vakama Hordika's head, Mantax's feet and the Pridak feet comprising his head in Metru green. He is also the third and final set to have the Piraka legs and the fifth and final Bionicle set to have the Toa Metru double socket joint in that color, though the latter of those also came as part of the Fafnir Dragon in a Vikings set (7019) in '05. Similarly, the tail end in that color makes its second of four appearances here, functioning as spikes. The red tubes that go through his cape appear in two minifigure-scale playsets (8926 and 8927) from this year and a Space Police III set (5980) in '09. He is also the last set to have the minifigure spikes in lime, and the knives from Takadox, as well as Ehlek's head. That leaves Takadox's head as the only remaining head to be reused later. Similarly, he is also the final set to have Lehvak-Kal's "Vacuum Sheilds", leaving the "Earth Shields" and "Magnetism Shields" as the only remaining shields from the Bohrok or Bohrok-Kal still in use for the remainder of the theme. In the trap, the Technic 7M "flex tubes" in silver make their final appearance, though they also appeared in a "Castle" set (7036) that year. Though apart from two of the year's minifigure-scale playsets (8925 and 8926), the "Staffs of Loyalty" will only appear in one more set after this...

Wow that's Karzahni was very powerful

I was lucky enough to get Karzahni out of a bulk lot I bought over the easter long weekend. Also had Maxilos, Hydraxon, Lesovikk, Nidhiki, Vultraz, Rockoh T3, An Irnakk Spine, Toa Ignika, and a couple of Toa Metru, Rahkshi, Rahaga, Piraka and other misc bits. By far the luckies hall I've ever had an I don't think i could possibly beat it. They definitely had no clue what they were selling though and it was from facebook marketplace. If anyone is trying to get rare sets, go for local sellers, it's your best bet with the way the prices have jumped the last two years

Luckily I own two of these karzahni sets. Found one from local fb marketplace listing a year ago and it was dirt cheap. I hate how those dinosaur tails just fall off from the mutant mantis man.

Something I've noticed with a lot of bionicles is that a lot of them are hard to tell at first glance what exactly each body part is and what is what unless you have them physically in front of you

For me, the trap doesn't do too much. The entrapment function needs to be manually pressed on each side, I would have liked if it was some trigger in the center in order to make him feel like he actuated it by stepping into it.

This set is really rare , but I think there’s a more rare one in the glarorian wave the huge mata nui set I think that one is more rare than this , would if you made like a top rare bionicle sets

I always dreamed of the MOCs I could make with some of Karzahni's green armor pieces, especially the dark green feet and the lime-green-to-dark-green plates (the molds for BOTH of which were originally used for Barraki Mantax's shoulders, btw).

How much did this cost?

The one set I've built, but don't own. Lol My younger cousin got this for Christmas but didn't think he could do it, so I got pressed to build it for him that night. What sucks is that I wanted that set so bad, but he had no interest in Bionicle stuff whatsoever. I went to ToysRUs the next day, but they were sold out and never got them back in stock. 😭

The CCBS friction addons have worked really well for Maxilos, I think they would here too.

Look, I don't know much about Botar, but I know for a fact that he is a BIG boss, and one scary looking ass motherfucker. I'd say getting handed to Botar is a lot worse than getting killed.
