What a lackluster set! Only watching these reviews did I find out that the "limited edition" sets were mostly scraps and "limited" for a reason. Thank you very much for a fresh look at this beloved toy line from my childhood
Excited for this video! These guys were always so mysterious to me as a kid, since they weren’t hardly marketed (at least from what I saw) And we’re *this much* closer to Glatorian now! I’m pumped for this!
Came into this set on accident; bought Toa Ignika online and the seller accidentally sent this. Ended up getting my Ignika AND was allowed to pay just half price to keep Mutran and Vican! Not a bad deal haha
In the United States, this set was a Wal-Mart exclusive, much like Lesovikk (8939) from the year before. While there aren't many exclusive elements here, Vican marks the final appearance of the "Voodoo Claws" in silver. Mutran is the second of three sets to have the Piraka knee armor in silver, and is the final model to have the clawed Piraka feet in the melded black and silver combination which debuted in Vezon (8764). Mutran and the other three Makuta Phantoka were the last sets to have the Toa Metru eye stock in transparent fluorescent reddish-orange, and to have that part all together.
God I loved this set! First bionicle I got when I started earning money and went back to getting the sets I missed out! And I love the two! I wonder what the score wi-
Tbh I really like Mutran and Vican as a set. Something about the simplicity of it and the great colors just appeals to me. I do wish Mutran had another set of wings or something to make him stand out more, the two on his shoulders just feel kinda dinky.
I like putting a technic pin on Mutran's back so I can mount the sword point down, as him having two weapons all the time is a bit awkward. This set is really easy to part out if you can secure the masks at a low price, but even then it's still way too expensive for what it is. I think the set looks best when you have the two combined, as it really emphasizes the wing placement and the spear (which are the unique attributes of Mutran).
I got this set from LEGOLand back in the day!! The only time I went! It is cool to find out about the original price and box design and it brings me way back!!
Speaking of Bionicle, I've created a Bionicle Theme Park in Rollercoaster Tycoon 3! It's called Mata Nui and the rollercoasters are named after each Toa Nuva, including Takanuva and Makuta!
This is probably my favorite phantoka titan set. He’s just such a cool titan and he fits in so well with the rest of the makuta lineup for this wave. Distinct colors and basically an enhanced phantoka makuta so you can tell he’s a step above the others.
I love your reviews. They are iconic and a legacy honestly. What I would also love is a size comparison, I think it's important to compare models to a standard to a of the year. Its important to know how titans especially scale.
Maaaan one of the only sets from the Phantoka/Mistika like I never got. Him and Bitil were the only ones. What a badass set Edit: I'm a sucker for lime green
Honestly, from what I have seen this set looks amazing. I actually kinda unironically love lime green, (why Hahli was my fav Mahri, and why Lewa Nuva rocks). I really really love the set and the mask and everything. I wish I could get 1 and might even pick one up, provided I can scrounge up enough decent lime joints.
even though the masks are just recolors, i do still really like the look of them. I have my mutran and vican posed right next to chirox and his little matoran companion.
Oof, that’s unfortunate to hear. Maybe if it helps redeem the set slightly, check out an animation by Vrahno of the Makuta, kinda changed how I looked at Chirox vs Mutran
Pretty sure Mutran wasn't as he was too busy in his lab. He basically went 'oh, interesting' and went back to work. Vican is is lab assistant. Basically the Igor to his Dr. Frankenstein.
Always a treat to get a new Mata Nui Monday video! Mutran might not be the most unique set, but he seems like an okay model. The character however was the best of 2008.
You should have a offical page where you can see all the ranking compared to eachother so if someone wants to buy a random set they haven't really seen before but gurentee it's quality they can look at what you've got ranked high for bionicles
I remember I have to earn this sad back in the day back in 2008 when I was a ten-year-old kid that I want to open Mutran and Vicain set but I have to earn it before I finally opening and mean while I was using Krop mask with like green green part and sharp claws.
This is definitely a clone set, but I thought it was okay when I got it when they came out. I personally didn't have the money to get every set, so it was cool that I was able to get basically the same set as another set, just "special edition." If I already had the other ones, it would have been a bummer I guess. But I prefer green anyway 🙂 Thanks for the video!
Thank you for the support!! I can see this having a much different impression if you had gotten this instead of Chirox and Kirop, in that event it would feel great
In essence, this set is just a reskin of Chirox and Kirop, packaged in a combo set, similar to what bionicle did in 2016 with Kopaka and his creature Melum, and interestingly they both have unity function where the smaller figure can attach to the back of the larger one in order to give them a more bulky and large appearance. While I think the green color scheme pairs well with the character, the issue with the lime green sockets--and all bionicle sockets from 2008, however they were as bad as the green one- does bring the set down a bit. Overall I think it's a neat little gimmick of a set, even if the characters are mostly clones the set is great for expanding a Bionicle collection, I can see them filling out the roles of side characters in a display.
@@AllOutBrick Picked this set up back in the day - I remember vividly, the hands developing a crack within a few days, and breaking within a month. Twelve year old me was gutted - always thought Mutran was super cool.
Yeah this set is pretty underwhelming. These dudes definitely need some sort of real play function to stick out. I think Makuta Icarax delivers that, with a shitton of weaponry + the spinning blade.
