In this LEGO City update we UPGRADE the train track around the amusement park. The upgrades incudes a huge double curve track and 8 double straight tracks on 32x32 baseplates. All of the track is fully tiled off with underlaying plate and embedded within the MILS plates. I addition to the train track I also start constructing the masonry wall that will boarder the entire amusement park.

Isn't it more logical to put the wall in between the two train tracks so the amusement train runs through the amusement park instead of outside?
@TheElsiecam
@TheElsiecam 14 дней назад
I agree, if it's for people at the amusement park it would make more sense for it to be inside, at least for most of the run. Also, the hogwarts express piston seemed to be catching on the adapted track at certain points but was fine on the basic track.

I assumed the amusement park train will be operating on its own separate track, i.e. a third track.

I think that the nugat wall should go inbetween the train tracks, rather than only around the park perimeter, otherwise people on the park train wouldn't be able to see anything of the park

9V is surely the way to go. But. Since LEGO doesn't produce 9V tracks anymore, you can only rely on what's currently available, so it won't be cheap, and it's the old grey color. You could add a copper strip to all your current tracks, but that would take a long time and a lot of patience. Third option is to buy compatible, new 9V tracks. Probably the best are made by FXBricks, and they come in many sizes. Maybe they could sponsor you, it might be worth reaching out to them. Then there's the motor issue. You can only get old ones, but they break easily and they're also not cheap. FXBricks is working on producing a new motor, but that will still take time

@BrickMD 14 дней назад
Yes to Fx Bricks! I bought a ton of tracks from them and they are excellent quality. Molded just like LEGO, not 3D printed, and are color matched to the current dark bluish grey (most 9V LEGO tracks are old dark grey since the color change happened just before 9V track was discontinued). Also, they sell 16 stud length straight tracks which would be super helpful for your huge layout. I spent a good amount of money on their tracks and they have worked flawlessly for me. It’s so great to just turn the knob on the transformer and have your trains just go. No worrying about dead batteries (or if you forget too long, exploded ones…), it just works.

9V truly is still the best. I consider myself lucky that I started collecting when 9V was still the standard. Now there is the other side of the coin to it: I am much older than you! 😂 I love what you did to the shop and to your LEGO city, and am eagerly awaiting all of your updates!!

Hi Bricksie, just want to say we ( husband SFOL) and I really like the look of the train tracks with the sleeper look, rather than the completely smooth look. Maybe the smooth bits where you go thru city / cross roads, but otherwise we think it looks better with the sleepers showing. Love your videos, best wishes from Western Australia 🇦🇺

Hi Bricksie . Love the development in the Amusement Park! Good to see the basics being laid down, and the trains whizzing round. Hope you get the controls sorted soon! Please will you consider having a supermarket and play park near the residential area? It would be lovely to have swings, slide, seesaw etc.

if you want to convert the RC tracks into 9V just buy the speed regulator and DYI the tracks by covering the rails with whatever material conduct best the electricity (I don't remember what metal they used, but I'm sure going in some rail modeling shop will help you with finding the right materials)
@H0T_Cheese
@H0T_Cheese 14 дней назад
If you do ultimately decided to switch to 9V for your trains, the tracks you have can actually be converted to work with 9V. You can get some copper tape and run it along the tracks and it works perfectly for carrying the voltage. There's videos here on youtube that can show you how to do it

The most efficient way is to convert current track to 9v - it is an easy process. Then there are supplier who provide wheels and cables to convert trains to 9v rail systems that even work with Power Functions and Power up controllers as well

FxBrick produces LEGO compatible 9v track. It’s more pricey than LEGO but it’s one of the only ways to get metal track. Then you need to find the 9v motors with metal wheels (getting tough). There is a DIY hack to use your existing track and put a copper conductor on the rails.

If you just do 2 separate train lines u can get rid of the switches and weird angles. City train services the route around the downtown. Then the 2nd circuit from the station around the amusement park.

@Amstys-up5sj 14 дней назад
Biggest problem with 9V track is the straight track is more rare than the curves. With your layout it would get very pricey and even the switch tracks go for about 10 dollars each. I got lucky about a year ago a guy was selling 100s of 9v track for just 100 dollars

@Bricksie I made custom 9v train track by putting copper metal tape over the regular plastic Lego rails. Battery Powered Bricks has a great tutorial on how to start the process here on RU-vid. With a layout as big as yours, I'm not sure if it's ideal, but it sure is cheaper than buying tons of Lego brand 9v train track.

Would it perhaps fit better with traditional track, instead of covered tracks, in the amusement park, when it only uses old school locomotives. In Disney World they try to keep their locomotives, tracks and surrounding scenery historical and old school.

Like the train tracks. It’s crazy how much Lego it takes to create that smooth look. I don’t know how you can afford it all. As far as the trains are concerned I like the older remotes too. Also you are probably running through batteries just due to the size of the train lines and probably the slope of the track. There is nothing much you can do about that. It all looks good. You’re getting there. I have a much smaller city. It takes up a two car garage bay. The walls are a good idea. I have done the same thing with brick columns connecting the wall panels around the whole city. I don’t want my many figures to get run over by the train! 😂😂 Enjoy your updates and don’t think about how long the city is taking. Enjoy the process and focus on the stuff you love. Filling it too soon takes away what you have to fill too quickly. It’s actually nice to have the open space, but I do get the feeling of wanting it to look complete. Build your buildings and have fun with it all!

I know you have a lot of trains going on, but i also know how much you love your trains.. so would you consider some kind of subway line that could circle around under the outer edge of the table, on its own shelf ? Just often thought it could be a cool way to gain some additional space, and open the city up to some new ideas for a 12 inch deep section of underground trains/sewer + utility networks or maybe basements beneath some perimeter buildings... things like that. Something for you to think about at least, as long as you can still leave yourself enough headroom to get under there of course. it could accommodate a lot of unique scenes and features.
