After years and years of wanting Forest sets myself, I'm happy to have gotten this set as a GWP. Though, as you and RR Slugger have said...the GWP program is not a good way to distribute AMAZING sets like this. I'm a diehard Bionicle fan, and I can only anticipate them doing this again with a Bionicle GWP if the rumors are true. GWPs are cool, but THEME related exclusives feel specifically excluding fans and making us sad in the big picture. I would have bought 4 of these if they were on the shelves and made mocs!!
Agreed. I just got back into Lego and actually had no clue what GWPs were. When I learned that this was one I was not happy. Though it was released a few years ago and I’m just now finding out about this set in general, I found a new sealed one for $45 free shipping. More than I’d like to have paid but I also wouldn’t have spent $150 just to get this set as I’m not a huge collector and pretty much only like the Castle line. It from what I understand these were selling for $75 plus a while back. I really wish they’d release smaller to mid size set like this in stores. But I think they mostly care about their licensed lines….
There's a rumor (which I hope is true, but wouldn't bet on it), that this GWP will return on August 2nd. This would be great to get it at the same time as the upcoming castle.
In regard to old castle sets not using brown, I've read somewhere that the old brown pigment was more expensive than other colors and as a result brown pieces cost more to produce. I wasn't able to ever confirm that by a second source, but if it were true it would explain why brown would mostly be used for accessories, while bigger pieces would use black as the next best color.
The Castle in the Forest didn't have any new parts or prints. So these torsos and shields are currently 'exclusive' to this set... But I imagine we'll see them again in the 90th anniv castle... Can't imagine they'd print all these things 'just' for a gwp.
The torsos for the forestmen are also included in the Lion knights castle that comes in August. So far only the shields seem unique, being a "redesign" of the old ones. They are almost the same though. The set I really really want to be redesigned is 6066. I love that set so much. It would be an awesome addition to the hideout.
Cool hat, but I prefer Basil the Bat Lord's... Unironically, hadn't actually looked more into your channel than a brief skim, previously, and it's really cool to hear all these facts I'd never have known about which just show an impressive familiarity with these themes (such as the fact about the moulding on the feather). An enjoyable watch, to be sure!
If this was a 25 Dollar set, I wouldve probably bought multiple. The biggest poblem with the 150 bucks GWP is how little interesting sets there are for castle fans. I mean castle fans probably already own the blacksmith and creator castle, apart from that there is not much you cozld buy
In hindsight, the release of this set was even more egregious after the re-released this GWP to go alongside the Lion Knight's Castle. They knew Castle fans would buy the Lion Knight's Castle anyway, but Lego released this GWP beforehand as well to manipulate fans into spending $150 they otherwise wouldn't have spent if they knew this was re-releasing as a GWP alongside the Lion Knight's Castle. The entire GWP system is immoral and exploitative. GWPs should be sold as individual sets during and after their run as GWPs. This way, Lego fans are still encouraged to and rewarded for purchasing sets without being abused by Lego's manufactured FOMO. I purchased this off the second-hand market since I wanted this set but didn't want to pay $150 for it. Lego's second-hand market is another major issue that needs more attention, and The Lego Group is using-even encouraging-its existence to drive up their own prices.
If you can budget it just buy a set like the Blacksmith then resell it for a bit less. You'll surely get a buyer and this set for a few bucks. Also the blacksmith is supposed to end this year so in a few month you may even be able to sell it for profit.
🙋😉🌈🌈🌈🌈🌈Hello!!! Review&Unboxing 2022...classic castle fan.👍 It's better. It's still just as captivating for children as for parents. It's magic moment🌟✨✨💫✨✨Thanks!!!🙏👍🌈🌈🌈✨✨💫✨✨✨
I love everything about this set but two things- the treetop and release. The fact that women uses same torso is great as you can decide to make it male or female.
Pls let us see your collection, i'm watching your video's for about a year and realy want to see your collection!!! Also i think u make to few video's because i realy want to see more reviews, about Castle's like 6090, 6085, 6080, and the Pirate theme! Please!
I had to pay a little under 40€ for it. I hoped to get it with the Lion Knight's castle, but the gift with purchase was sold out before I knew it. Such a shame... I thought I would have earned one, spending 400€ on the big castle...
Growing up in the 80's , I couldn't afford any of the medium or big lego sets. If I was lucky enough I was able to buy $ 5 - 10 sets. My cousin's family was wealthy so he was able to get all the big castles and play sets etc. So I was always jealous when I went over to his house and play with his lego. There was no way I'm gonna miss this set since I always wanted classic theme. I'm fortunate enough that I'm able to buy any lego sets that I want now so I'm gonna be getting that 90 year Castle set for sure just so I can relive the memories again.
Castle in the forest doesn't have forestmen print. All it has is a minifigure with the same torso used for the female in the Blacksmith set which was actually made for the Pirate Bay set so it's more a Pirate era torso than a medieval one, but I guess it was close enough. It kind of sucks that we get 2 forestmen in this sets, but we don't get two hats. Also since one it's a female it would've been nice to have a female torso as well.
the nostalgia hits hard, never got any of the the bat lord or woodsman kits at the time since the stores always had the castles instead. but always wanted them from seeing them in lego racers
25$ 'value' would be true IF this was a store release. Send-hand offers in Poland started with 45$ and they were sold out within MINUTES. Now You can get it for 60$+... Not to mention the window to get in second-hand in a good price was like 8 hours the same day it was released.
Oh, hello Brian! I didn't know that you came back. I just randomly remembered you today and came here to re-watch some of your older videos; out of nostalgia, I guess. :-)
Making this a gift with purchase was a brilliant move by Lego, hats off to them they know how to maximize profits and exploit their customers weakness.
Nice review!! I just went to eBay and got it for $46 so I wouldn’t have to spend $150…I’ve heard they are going to the release this as a gift with purchase for the big castle later. That made a few RU-vidrs mad because they thought it would be retired. Enjoy your videos as always!
I always save up some sets I want in my wish list for the express purpose to be very picky with the GWP's. So I was prepared for it. Should they release this GWP again at some point I might end up with 2 of them, ....but oh well.
I love the set, my only complain would be the second minifig should have includes a green hat aswell . Also, the male faceprint isnt new, its from set 60298.
Wish they made the box the same size as original, bcoz the box is bulging out a bit (my one anyway) almost seems box isn’t spacious enough for the contents inside
I picked up this set by purchasing the Medieval Blacksmith's shop for synergy.😃 I believe I heard they are going to release this again as a gwp around the time the new castle is released.
Castle in the forest was notable because being a bricklink release, it did not have any original prints. There were stickers, the main ones I know of being from The shields, but the figures were all made using existing parts, most of which are on the lego website. The forest woman you mentioned is really just basically the wife from the Medieval Blacksmith. Great figures still, but it’s great getting this set with actual new prints.
I agree that it would be better for them to have just made this a $20 set(though it would probably be $25 or $30 in today’s money), but I understand why they did this. They still have a lot of sets they want off the shelves for the next release day, and this is a great way to do it. From what I’ve heard, however, this is not the only time to get this set. I think promo bricks said it would also be available for one week in August, which will be after the release of the Viking longship and might be after the release of the castle, though I’m not sure.
Ahh, my guy is back. So glad I got this set, plus it served as an excuse to finally get the medieval blacksmith shop, haha. Keep up the great content, bud
They knew the nostalgia is big for this and they banked on it. It is a business practice. Might even be a way to test the waters to see if people are willing to buy castle. And we might see something that is actually unheard of in Lego. That being redesigns of older sets and releasing them. Lots of other companies are doing it. Like every toy line from the 80s and 90s is rereleasing new improved figures, from Transformers to GI JOE to tmnt. So why shouldn't lego jump on board of it? And start doing redesigns "with modern take" on older sets.
@@BriansBricks wow, how incredibly nice of him! I'm pretty sure in a couple of year this GWP set will retail for a ridicukous price on the 2nd market thanks to all those scalpers... In the past I've personally got GWP that I didn't really care about, and did just like your friend: sell them at their TLG estimated price to those who actually only wanted them without having to buy hundreds of $ of sets just to get them. He definitely did the right thing. And I'm so happy for you that you managed to get it for reasonable price, without having to spend ludicrous monies on sets you don't necessarily want!
It’s easy to blow 150 bucks on LEGO. There’s a ton of great June sets, so I don’t know what the problem is. That’s a false assumption that everyone is purchasing stuff just to get this set, btw. Some sets should be limited. It makes them more special. At 150 bucks, that keeps scalpers from buying all six from a case at Walmart or Target. It also keeps the stock going. If you really want one, then she’ll out the money to get it. I’m sure that there’s some 150 buck set or series of sets that even the average collector/builder could easily want. And saying that it would sell out? I don’t think so. It would sell out to the scalpers, but they’d sit there if it was at every store and limited to one per purchase.
Haha, funny to see you on Brian’s video too! 😅 As with your comments on my review, it’s very subjective to say there are a “ton of great June sets”; to you, maybe, not to everyone. You already know my opinion, but I think Brian is completely in the right to be disappointed with the way Lego handled this release. There were a myriad of better ways to handle this.
