My name's Brian and I review old Lego sets! I like to review sealed sets as a sort of history archival so others can always see what was inside them. However I also just enjoy LEGO and reviewing sets, so I review used sets as well!
Yes, they are all replaceable in the same way. It just says that on the packaging because Lego does not intend for the customer to be doing this "operation".
3:56 two things I learned today: Garry is another spelling of Gary, from Old German meaning "spear", and Ganger is the same thing as a foreman and pronounced as you said. Ah LEGO never stops teaching me things about the world!
I've had Garry's Mod on Steam forever, but only played it a few minutes for my first time the other day. And for the past decade I knew of it, I always thought the spelling was "G-a-r-y" too, so I have no reason to yell at you :)
I enjoyed the Rescue Team set growing up! I can still vaguely remember holding the box in hand in the car before coming home to open and build it. While I would get another medical figure like this in 2 copies of 1249 Tri-motorbike from Shell, I enjoyed this figure with the printed hat and always wanted to assemble Enter, Return and Dr Clickitt together from LEGO Island. The firefighter was the most unique of the 3 as I didn't have this suit from some of the other sets of the time, mostly the black torso, collared shirts. The cop with a bike helmet didn't stand out to me as much, considering I had similar police figures from a bunch of other sets, except for two parts: the printed helmet, which I only had 1 other copy from 6326 Town Folks, and the printed 3900pb01 signal paddle. I recall as a kid building a police walking mech using many parts from 6471 4WD Police Patrol but also this paddle piece as a sort of arm extending from the side. The mech walked similar to Granite Grinder and other similar mechs of the era. The card-collecting concept was not lost on me after this set. I later acquired some of the NBA figure packs to add more players to my smaller NBA sets, such as #3 and #7 so the cards and stands were fun to setup for a time. One of the neat concepts I learned as a kid was the Sports Basketball sets used these elements for a couple small hoop sets, like 3549 Practice Shooting, 3550 Jump and Shoot, and 3548 Slam Dunk Trainer. I had seen at least one of these as a kid in stores but didn't acquire anything until a year ago when I finally got the backboard card and its fun LEGO crowd with figures like Stuntman, Johnny Thunder and what looks like Stan Lee in an orange and white polo? And is that a green-and-red minifigure of Elmer Fudd behind him?? Thanks for the review and opening up this fun can of warms, I mean, memories :)
I also recall getting more mileage from Fred the Fireman, as my brother and I used his breathing apparatus to make an Ogel Henchman based on the Alpha Team PC game, particularly the ones that carried toxic cans on hand carts known as "Zombie Barrel Pushers".
I can't tell you how many times I ogled this tiny set in the catalogs, even when I already had a few other Arctic sets like the 2-pack. But I never knew it was available in a polybag too! The ski manufacturing error was fascinating to occur too! Fun review!
They seemed to have chosen the term 'Ganger' for Garry, as its an aliteration with his name and profession. They did it for all the other characters. Dave the digger, Pete the pneumatic driller, Paula the police woman, etc.
I liked the Arctice theme. Im suprised they didn't include a trans neon green spider in the polybag that'd have been cool. And I wish this had been a pront and not a sticker, because the polybag looks off without the Arctic logo on the vehicle. But overall pretty cool, that'd be the sort of sets I'd get. I didn't have that one, nor the box one, but had the snow plower (6573: Arctic Expedition), and had loads of fun with it (including in actual snow). Finally, that production error is very cool, that means there shouldn't be any white lines anywhere (stressed plastic). I wonder how did that happen
This was the very first Lego set I built on my own! I remember I showed it to my dad and he pretended to get really scared of the skeleton. Gosh, I miss my him. I know things are tough, but I promise you they won’t last forever. Love you dad.
The old leaf pieces WILL break. I didn't have it happen to me with this set, since I never had this set. It happened with my Fire Breathing Fortress with simple age. I thankfully had some spare to replace them, but it was a sad moment for me.
Yeah. The Dark Forest sets almost felt like they were grab-bagging stuff and mashing it together. It's also possible that they didn't have the funky roman helmets from the Dragon Masters/Fright Knights to use by the point of this set's release.
For those who don't know, the knight with the Yellow dragon ornaments is a near direct match for the singular Black Knight kit you could get. That one had red dragon helmet ornamentation, and no barding, and only a red flag on a brown lance. He also came with a crossbow to supplement two swords, as well as an armament station of sorts. Aside from the barding, you could recreate the Golden Black Knight with some swapping with a Dragon Master Lieutenant in any of the middle-sized sets.
The flying aspect of the prison does seem odd, especially for a ground-based vehicle. I doubt a dragon could pull a wagon into the sky as well as it can on the ground. I only have the cave from this set and I'm sure I could rebuild it from spare parts. The black dragon is nice and the dragon-decorated horse is fun to run alongside it. I can see why a low-profile prison carriage would be distracting with its tower-like curved roof much like the stand-alone bases on the theme. Thanks for the review!
If the cart still has Royal Knight’s flag colors, then the Dragon Knights clearly stole it and the one knight took the original owner/driver’s helmet too.
Have this set since like late 80s. Have tried to build this sometimes over the years, but many pieces is gone now and the some town walls is little broken. Still kind of work but needs some modifications, and creativity;)
Hello Brian's Bricks, it's been a while! I'm making a video about rare Lego bricks these days. Can I use part of this video? Of course, I'll cite the source.
